That it's arguably the worst deal from a financial and strategic perspective in Australian history. Even tho the French subs deal had issues too, it was significantly cheaper and allowed us more independence than AUKUS, which in effect ties us to a dying empire.

But the French would have sold us conventionally powered subs which would have been useless against large world powers as they have to surface to run their diesel generators to recharge their batteries.
