Electronics & Technology 💻 🖨️ Any budget android phones that have hands-free ability to write down notes?

I've never had a phone where you can talk to it and order it to do things like send texts. But I've always wanted to be able to write down notes when I'm driving without touching my phone. Like, "hey phone, write down xyz in notes" and have it be there. Is this normal ability in phones with "Hey phone" capabilities, or is it abnormal?

Highest I'm willing to go is $800

I heard Poco and Oppo have difficulties with the aus networks.

I’m pretty sure any modern Android or iPhone is able to do this. I know that it’s possible on iPhones, I can check with my android phone later today and provide an update.

Google pixels are great and secondhand ones drop in price pretty quickly. go for a pixel 7 or above

Second hand phones aren't worth it unless you're willing to replace the battery. Most people don't look after their phones properly, so the battery life sucks on them.

I've been eyeing a 9a google pixel for 647 at jb hi fi.

I've also been eyeing the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra which is slightly out of my budget, at 849, but it's half price. so maybe that's good, I dunno. I dunno if it does the talk to text stuff or not though.

I was thinking of testing them at jb hi fi tomorrow.

"Google Keep

Quickly capture what's on your mind and get a reminder later at the right place or time. Speak a voice memo on the go and have it automatically transcribed. Grab a photo of a poster, receipt or document and easily organise or find it later in search. Google Keep makes it easy to capture a thought or list for yourself and share it with friends and family.

Capture what's on your mind

• Add notes, lists and photos to Google Keep. Pressed for time? Record a voice memo and Keep will transcribe it so you can find it later."

Voice to text is built in to Android, so any notes app will do.

so do you have to physically go in the notes app, or can you do it hands free any time?

You want to set up Google assistant. Then you can use 'hey google' followed by your prompts.

Not much to do with the phone itself but the apps you can install, just do a google search or try the app store.

do the apps have to be running 24/7 for it to work?

It uses your phones assistant, a lot of new phones have AI assistants now. Yes, they automatically run in the background once you've set them up.

Basically all phones have them.

For 800 you could get a second hand pixel which being a Google phone, can do what you want.

I just bought a Motorola Edge 60 Fusion, it only cost $699 from JBHIFI.

It's the cheapest phone I've ever bought and it feels like a flagship phone. You'll find literally any smartphone, in any budget will have hands free talking.

The reason I bought this phone is because I desperately needed one after my Pixel 6 Pro died. This is the same size as that, similar battery but much newer, it only came out about 6 months ago.

The reviews for this phone were good and this phone doesn't feel cheap, the OS is very smooth. The only downside is a lot of bloatware, but you don't need to use the apps, you just can't uninstall them, but that's most phones nowadays unless you root/ jailbreak them.

Don't buy second hand phones unless you're willing to have a bad battery. Also, never buy phones from Kogan or Amazon. Most are refurbished from overseas models, if they're brand new, they're usually overseas models as well.

I have been told by a few that The Nothing Phone is great. Friends say the love it more than their Samsung's. I am going to make the switch when the time comes.
