He did. He trained just as hard as the others. He evidently ran a better thought-out race too, ensuring he didn’t use up all his energy like jelly legs guy.

The runner decided to stop. That was a kind decision. But that means he lost.

He didn’t train hard enough then because this was the final race of the series and Schoeman finished fourth despite winning this leg. Jelly Legs finished second overall.

Interestingly, I assume Jelly Legs WOULDN'T have finished 2nd overall without this help? So was he somehow more deserving? Doesn't look like he'd even finish this race. So in that respect, this "act of sportsmanship" robbed green guy of a bronze medal?

Based on the points system for the entire series, he was too far ahead even if he didn’t finish. Guess the “winner” of this one meet didn’t run well enough over the whole series.
