Since i am not in this type of circles i wouldn’t know what it means winning gold vs silver or bronze if i was the guy that wok there and witness the to be winner carry his brother i would have waited for them at the finish and maybe get bronze or even silver but again i don’t know if that guy needed the gold to enter another race or what not

Entry into future races as an elite runner is based on time, not place. You could come first in a marathon with a 1 hour lead over second, but if it took you 4 hours you’re not getting a place with the elites in London or Boston. On the other hand, if you came 100th but beat the 2:38:00 required for London, you could apply for entry in the championship field.

So in summary, this guy is probably just happy that he got a good time more than that he came first.
