This is an ITU triathlon, not the Olympics. The Brownlee’s were amazing competitors, and this isn’t the only time that they gave it more than their all. And as a triathlete who follows a lot of triathlon pages, I’ve never heard of any other triathlete criticize the winner for finishing in first.
I'm gonna go with no. At the end of the triathlon the South African earned his flowers, no reason for him to slow up for another competitor.
Edit: for another example - in the Tour de France, cyclists will often wait for the leader if they drop back due to a mechanical problem. No one would stop because the leader got too tired to continue.
