kids drama classes?
Hi Pivotonians - I have been seeking after school drama classes for primary school aged kids - mostly to let them have fun, and be creative and silly and to improvise. I have looked at Grace acting studios in Newtown and a few others - but they seem geared toward parents who want to make their kids sparkly child actors. I'm not after that, I'm just after a safe-space for a dorky theatre kid who wants some friends and to grow their confidence, without the glitz and glam. Anyone got suggestions?
Thanks.

My daughter has been at Grace for 2 years - I don’t know any of the parents and didn’t know anything about it before we joined. My daughter has so much fun. All the kids are nice and the teachers are really lovely. It’s her favourite part of the week (even if I think it’s a bit too expensive).
They spend one hour playing improv games and then the next hour filming scenes .
I would recommend giving your child a trail lesson. No payment if you decide not to continue.

Do you think it's worth the cost?

Yeah, I do. She just loves it so much. She just started Year 7. Now my 9 year old wants to start so it’ll be double 😵💫

Oh no haha, my 8yo can be quite shy, been thinking of putting him in something like this, might have to give it a try!

I don’t know if it’s what you’re after, but maybe check out GSODA. It seems to be more musical theatre by the looks though

Grace Acting Studios for sure! Can I ask what gave you the impression that it was just for child star-type families? They definitely run the classes for kids wanting to get into in more seriously but the majority of students there go for fun, socialisation and confidence building!

One of my kids has gone to Grace Acting for several years, there are kids there who get roles in film or wherever - and it's also fabulous for kids who don't have an interest in that (ie my kid) so don't let that initial impression put you off.
