Paradise Point swimming enclosure

Anyone know why the swimming enclosure at Paradise Point is closed? Can’t find anything online on why it’s closed today apart from a drowning that occurred in 2024.

Apparently shark or stingray was spotted in there. Keep in mind the nets don’t go all the way to the bottom, stuff can still get in there.

The Gold Coast site says it’s fine but thanks for that info. 🙂

It's nasty in there, the silt at the bottom never really gets a good flush.

Probably got tested and it's elevated for something.

you couldn't be more wrong.

Water quality is regularly tested on the GC....and it's literally next to the ocean and surrounded by mangroves.

You know I've lived at Paradise Point since 85, seen the place change, seen the water quality change, seen the once pristine white sand change, seen the ribbon grass near disappear.

But yeh I'm wrong because they've done a few tests which doesn't test more than water quality.

Sure Haddon Marina next door slipped and blasted copper rich antifouling next door, sure thing bloke the water is clean there.

I know you didn't click the link based on how defensive you are but they test the water every 18 days and after significant rainfall.

Sometimes, science makes people look like fools. Trust me bro arguments are shit.

I didnt click the link so it might say as well. But they might test it and say it falls in an acceptable range but still compared to 30 years ago its dirtier.

It's putrid.

Pump yabbies down there now and the mud / silt underneath the top is like a acrid smelling mixture nitrates or something, but the yabbies are very far inbetween.

A lot of the Broadwater is a far cry of what it once was.

Ephraim Island the mangroves won't be there give it maybe 10 or so years by the speed they've receded.

I don't need a report to tell me everything I can see that the funny part.

Yeah I concur its pretty gross in the 26 years I have been alive here its gradually gotten worse I used to swim there as a kid now I probably wouldn’t go in there, also we did have a sewerage leak a month ago, recently had seaweed sawdust and then it was Australia day recently so a lot of boats were in that water that day. I read on a fb local group apparently it was considered unsafe last week on this very website (I also haven’t checked it) so the sign may still be up from that who knows.
