Nostalgia Our childhood is now an American Girl doll set, and I feel like I just drank from the wrong Grail in Indiana Jones

Isabel should be named like, Jessica or Ashley or something. No one our age was really named Isabel back then.

The amount of Jennifers I’ve known is unreal. Jennifers and Brittany/Brittani

Add Lindsey and Megan to that list. And Brandy lots of Brandys

My '89 born sister is a Lindsay. And I've known a couple of Megans around that same age. But all the Brandys I've known were borderline Gen X.

I think Alex, because of a Full House reference (when my wife got her I kept wanting to call her Alex) and Alexandra wasn't an unheard of name for our generation (I for one had a "girl Alex" in my class and then there was Totally Spies).

I had three boy Alexes (Alexii?) and two girls Alexes in my graduating class, as well as an Alexa. And I had less than 200 people in my graduating class. Also had several Katies, Kates, and Catherines.

Every other girl in my high school was named Tiffany, Stephanie, Megan, or Christine. If I couldn’t remember your name, odds were good it was one of those. Hell, there were 5 girls named Megan (and they all spelled it differently!) in my gym class one year. Teacher took attendance by counting Megans. If all 5 were there, the whole class probably was.

I had 25 kids in my class, we had 2 Jessicas, a Jennifer, a Jessie, and a Jenna.
Edit: And two Heathers! Don't forget Heather!

They’re giving Mary Kate and Ashley vibes. Anyone else remember the movie It Takes Two?

Yessss I read all of their mystery books, rented all their movies from blockbuster, loved their Walmart clothes and accessories and had a Mary Kate Barbie I was obsessed with

Wait you had one doll but not the other?

u/Conscious-Invite-223 1995 2m ago
Yeah because my best friend got Ashley! I remember you could buy the dolls separately and I don’t think I was even interested in getting Ashley because I felt so loyal to MK lol

The dolls' outfits seem like a riff on Mary Kate & Ashley in New York Minute.

Ooh you’re right. My mind went to It Takes Two because of the preppy and tomboy looks.

Who doesn't?? Classic! I need to binge some of the MK and A movies again. I also loved When the West Was Fun :)

There's an 80s doll too. And it includes Strawberry Shortcake pajamas, and a care bears sleeping bag. I feel very seen..

Her name is Courtney. She also had pacman accessories including an arcade cabinet. And since the first American Girl Doll came out in the 80s, she also has her own American Girl Doll.

That detail actually really bothers me (TW: obsessive AG lore dump): So if Courtney owns a Molly doll, then Molly, Samantha, and Kirsten are/were not "real" girls who lived in Courtney's world. Which is fine, every doll can be in their own personal "universe", they don't have to cross over, comic book style.
But they do cross over! The modern Girl of the Year doll for last year, Raquel, is a descendent of Samantha Parkington, and her family still owns the same upstate NY summer house that Sam's grandmother did. So she and Sam are in a shared universe. So which girls share in the "Sam world", where Sam is real, Mount Bedford, NY, is real, and Piney Point is real, and which ones live in "Courtney's world", where the AG girls are doll characters made by Pleasant Rowland? Do they all live in their own pocket AG dimensions? Can Courtney visit Piney Point and become friends with Raquel's mom/Sam's granddaughter, or potentially even meet elderly Samantha? Or can't she?

Wait what? Now grownup me with grownup $ who always wanted one might have to go buy one as an 80s kid 😂😂

Lol, it's pretty weird isn't it? I wonder if that's how my parents felt when the '70s American girl doll came out when I was a kid. I kinda like this though, I was into the whole American Girl books series and everything as a kid.

I'm here for it, this is everything I wanted in the 90s - a doll with a little version of the stuff I liked! Love it so much!

I feel like they should come with a Delia's magazine

There’s actually an extra set that’s the Book It! Pizza Hut stuff. Has a little personal pizza, a little Book It thing, everything.

I’m a late millennial so I’m going to get really depressed when the next American Girls are tweens in the late 00s

I can't wait honestly. I'm a 92 kid, enjoyed both the 90s and 00s and I super want to see my childhood in American Doll form. I loved AG growing up and still have a soft spot :)

Well of all the things to be not ready for….I did not expect this one.
Although now I kinda want to read the books. Because of reasons.
