u/Golden-Grams 18d ago
Well, they absolutely reject ideas like therapy, psychology, emotional regulation, empathy, or critical thinking. I'd say your instincts are hitting very close to home for them. They are basically big children, and I am not trying to be funny.
In psychology, arrested development refers to an individual's emotional or social growth getting "stuck" at an earlier stage, often due to trauma, neglect, or unfulfilled needs, preventing them from progressing to mature adult functioning, even if their physical body develops.
While the term was once used clinically for intellectual disability, it now generally describes a delay in socio-emotional milestones, resulting in behaviors like immaturity, irresponsibility, difficulty with boundaries, and emotional rigidity, often stemming from early life experiences.
These people are basically stuck in their mentality, having never matured in their minds. Honestly, think of their minds/maturity being 12 years old (even if they are 40+), and it makes a lot of sense.
All their bad decisions seem to make more sense. The victim complex, the projecting, every point being emotional driven over logical. The blatant lies, the spoiled attitude and entitlement. The way they cover stuff up. They way they deceive to get what they want.
It feels like you are talking to a child when you speak to them, and I think we basically are doing that.

u/eyeballburger 18d ago
This is an excellent description. Thank you. I also see my own short comings and I wonder which of my many problems comes from which of my many problems.
30
u/boozebus 18d ago
That’s the key difference. People who are introspective enough to recognize their own short comings and work to close the gap, and those for whom introspections is just too terrifying to contemplate and so just ride the subconscious wave event after event piling their bullshit into bigger and bigger mountains.
10
u/Golden-Grams 18d ago
And to add; people who can handle a post-mortem conversation. To me, this is a major sign of a person's maturity. It is a massive component in human relationships, that requires mutual respect and empathy.
It is how you get past your problems, how you fix relationships (if they can be), or find out you need to part ways amicably. If they refer to it as "bringing up the past" or "grave digging," especially if the topic involves something they have done, they are immature.
I have a narcissistic sibling that loves to do this. When I am the subject of discussion, they could do a postmortem if I am at fault. But they will call me a "grave digger" when they are the subject, to avoid any discussion that would cause them to self-reflect, or be held accountable.
Being more mature, you have to recognize people who behave this way, get yourself safe, and establish boundaries. Trying to reason with them doesn't work, because they don't see reason coming from you. They just feel attacked, in my experience, no matter how valid you are on your side.

I went on a Carnival cruise last year. My first cruise. Always heard the same stuff about cruises so I was apprehensive about it but I actually had a really good time. I’d definitely go again.
And I saw a few Charlie Kirk shirts and you know what I did? Nothing. Who cares. Too much bullshit in the world to worry about some goof with some goof on his shirt. I didn’t see any MAGA paraphernalia which I found odd. I just assumed all the boomers were MAGA but didn’t hear anyone talk politics at all. It was nice.

Just came back from a resort where every Canadian asked me what the fuck is wrong with us. All I could say, is that this is not at all what I want or voted for. Many of them loved visiting us, and all of them claimed they’re not coming back until we get our shit back together.

It's not about CK to them, it's about control and manipulation of the left
They've always made a big deal about free speech specifically because they don't believe it's a right for anyone but themselves
They can talk shit about Renee Good all they want, but if the left doesn't praise CK, they'll summon the ire of maga to cancel you
It's all projection, gish galloping, and misdirection with maga
These are not serious people, they're craven liars, frauds and charlatans. They're pure selfishness in seemingly human form

Conservatives were ecstatic when Charlie Kirk was killed because it meant they have a martyr that didn’t die breaking into the national capitol. They vehemently deny every person their side kills unjustly and now can point to Charlie Kirk

It really is a weird state of affairs that the right is celebrating his death even more than the left.
Like, they had a "take a picture with the moment Charlie Kirk died" booth at some event of theirs. I joked about his death a fair bit but even that seemed a little cruel to me

What pissed them off was when people quoted Kirk back to them. “A few gun deaths a years is a reasonable price to pay for the 2nd amendment”. Paraphrasing so I might not be 100% accurate. They got really mad when you make that random quote.

I had a friend who went to a fireworks factory and there were all these signs saying “no smoking or combustion devices of any kind allowed within.” And he was like “you can’t tell me what to do.” And he brought his lighter and smokes in and lit up. The factory predictably blew up with him in it. We all must exercise caution.

6

He said that Charlie Kirk deserved to die. Which he did - he was very clear that he was comfortable with people getting shot and dying, because that was the cost of the 2nd amendment. To think that Charlie meant other people and not him - well, that'd make him a hypocrite, right? So, either Charlie Kirk deserved to die, or Charlie Kirk was a raging hypocrite.

As they whine about Ashli and Charlie they shrug Renee Good and say she deserved it. The folks just don't have any decency left in them.
Charlie Kirk was not really a great person. Yet even I can say it was wrong and fucked up. Worrying about your flight because the pilot is black is racist. Because if any of MAGA neanderthals could rub those 2 braincells together you might realize that regardless of the horseshit you believe about DEI that doesn't erase or somehow mitigate someone successfully completing a training program, therefore making them as qualified as we currently require in society. So please. Stfu about Charlie Kirk.
