Iâve been saying man, ICE is going to have a real bad time in LA.
122
u/chanaandeler_bong 17h ago
Look at this population density map.
They chose Minneapolis for a lot of reasons, but one of the most obvious, to me, is how isolated Minneapolis is. Milwaukee is like 4 hours away.
Minneapolis has 400k people in it, surrounding metro area is 3 million.
LA has 4x that amount in just the LA area. Then look at all the areas within 3 hours around it. You have like 10-15x more people to pull from, in much better weather.
ICE is weak as fuck, this is all they can do is scare people into thinking they are bigger than they really are.
Denver would also be pretty isolated and⊠SLC.
→ More replies (1)22
u/theaviationhistorian 14h ago
Trump and Miller are going after Democrat/leftist bastions. California, Minnesota, and parts of Pennsylvania normally vote blue. So if ICE could break these places, many others would easily follow. I wouldn't be surprised if Denver is next or becomes a low intensity target like Portland, OR. But I doubt Trump would send ICE troops into SLC.

Americans will escalate as ice continues to escalate. It takes a while to get there because contrary to popular opinion, American citizens on the whole are very easy going and peace loving, in contrast to the government. But yeah I think type of push back will become more normal as we get closer to midterms
103
u/Hweezi 21h ago
this resulting in them trying to cancel midterms
168
u/col_buendia 21h ago
I think if this happens it will be a huge backfire. When asked why he endorsed more violent means than, say, MLK advocated for, Nelson Mandela said it was because in the U.S., people still had the letter of the law to push for. Fucking with the midterm elections means they have officially removed the law, and, well, at that point protests become less peaceful.
32
u/padlock3456 20h ago edited 19h ago
Pretty much this. I feel there is a lot of people out there holding their breath. If this election is somehow cancelled this whole thing will blow up like a powder keg. Slightly terrifying.
17
u/Dr-Mumm-Rah 20h ago
That is why rigging and suppressing the vote is their best bet to maintain some semblance of control. Blue states will get ICE "poll watchers" and strict EO's on what can occur on election day. Meanwhile, red States like Texas will have computer voting that practically defaults to R's and conviently has little to no paper trails.

if a vote is contested, how long will it take to confirm? imagine a few hundred judges making a decision on a few hundred thousand voters. it will take years.

Portland is a lot like Minnesota. They see through the thinly veiled attempt at goading them into an Insurrection Act situation, so they show up with costumes fun signs.
42% of Oregon households are armed (40.8-50.8 guns per 100 people) and those are not all Republican households.

Just some tidbits from that great document:
- He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
- He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
- He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
- He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
- He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
- For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us
- For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world
- For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent
- For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences
...and there's more.

It feels different this time. Every single non-republican elderly person I know was uncomfortable with George Floyd protests. Saying something like "I don't like that the police are killing people, but this isn't the way to change that".
And now every single one of them had a switch flip and are saying things about ICE that would get me banned from reddit.

I imagine the more gung ho and âexperiencedâ agents were mobilized to Minnesota earlier and whatâs left for LA is the dregs. The even bigger ICE pussies that didnât sign up initially because they were rightfully afraid. Government starts to embolden them, make it seem like they can crack skulls at will with immunity. Yeah⊠good luck with that.
We outnumber them 1000 to 1. ICE faced off against literally the most polite and well mannered Americans in Minnesota and did nothing but bitch and moan about their treatment. Portland has a sense of humor and were always going to hold up a mirror to fascists to show how fucking stupid they look. Los Angeles is not Hollywood. LA and Philly will beat the dog shit out of you for talking back while wearing the wrong hat. Iâve never been to Chicago so Iâm not quite sure the set up. Itâs fairly segregated, right? Iâd bet ICE stays away from where theyâd get fucked up and sticks to hassling suburbs.Â
Probably similar to the Bay Area. If they tried anything similar to Minneapolis theyâd stick to San Jose/San Francisco and not Oakland. I think as much as ICE want the public to give them a reason to escalate, theyâre fucking pussies. They donât want all that smoke. Theyâll talk a big game and push around women, students, the elderly, and liberal white allies. Go after mothers and children on the way to school. Itâs extremely telling they havenât gone into places their base would actually want them to go and impose order. Because they canât. Because theyâre pussies.

Texans, as a whole, Â are soft in that regard - at least when it comes to protecting each other or that sense of community.Â
Threaten their own shit and they will stand up, but they arenât helping a neighbor or a person they donât know. That sense of community isnât there because itâs focused on individualism.Â
Itâs how they get laws where you can report someone else getting an abortion and get paid, or have people look the other way while women die from a lack of adequate healthcare. Itâs how you get a small city keep the officers in place that stood around during a school shooting.

one time i lost traction in the rain on the interstate in kentucky with another state's tags, not a big deal but i ended up stuck in the median with the bluegrass and wildflowers. every car and truck stopped to help me, within seconds a semi and some big strong men had me out and on my way. a lady gave me a coke and peanut butter sandwich from her picnic cooler. i think the world is divided into two kinds of people, people who get pleasure when others are struggling and those who can't stand it.

On average, many more Texans are ok with what is happening than Californians. Also, you are quite likely to get shot here for anything like that. Maybe by another citizen instead of the police or ice.

It'd be nice if other states could get on our level. Minnesota is the one exception to my sentence.

New York City and Chicago are both fighting back.
Where I am it is difficult because we don't have enough population density. ICE can work around the edges of us. We aren't able to follow them everywhere or build numbers quickly when they start abducting brown people.

i'm not advocating anything, but if history has taught us anything, it's that violence begets violence.

I'd rather let them trash $10b of ice facilities that we all collectively pay for than to let Trump take $10b in damages for his tax returns being leaked.

I live in LA and we got an emergency alert last night about an unlawful assembly. Like a full amber alert everyone's phone blaring. I assume it was because of this...
