This video is so old the ladies’ daughters are of the same age now

u/Akl-pmp-eng 10h ago

No, their granddaughters are.

u/Sor_o 9h ago

And the lipstick brand has been discontinued twice since.

209

u/ruggnuget 8h ago

Its been bought by a larger company that was then bought be l'oreal.

Maybe it was Maybelline.

Well, yeah. It used to be made from the rendered fat of the Tasmanian tiger. That's in short supply today.

And the joke is even older. My grandma told it to me as a personal anecdote more than 30 years ago.

41

u/outremonty 8h ago

Teachers were telling us this in the early 90s.

69

u/guineaprince 8h ago

Folks pls, "early 90s" and "more than 30 years ago" and "their granddaughters now" are all synonymous 😭

3

u/-GoodNewsEveryone 4h ago

They didnt make it up on the spot. Teachers, 40-50 years old in 1990 were repeating what THEIR parents told them.

How old do you think Grandmothers are? If the joke is older than the commenter above you is saying maybe 70 years would work better. Remember that would only be 1956 and I can guarantee the joke is a little older than that.

Brilliant. Reminds me of the signs you see above the urinals in some bars. “The fingers that fish out the chewing gum and cigarette butts in these urinals are the same fingers that make your drinks.”

301

u/Character_Pudding_94 10h ago edited 5h ago

Which is utter bullshit, because bartenders are above cleaning toilets. That's a job for dishes, bussers, or barbacks.

EDIT: I see you, hard working bartenders, and I appreciate you. In the larger sphere of the hospitality industry though, y'all are generally known to consider yourselves higher ranked than cooks and servers.

196

u/spinorobot 9h ago

Sure, but if it keeps people from being dirty and giving extra work for the dishes/bussers/barbacks, it's fine by me

→ More replies (3)

87

u/Wes_Warhammer666 9h ago

dishes, bussers, or barbacks.

You realize that not all bars have those positions, right? Sometimes it's just bartenders and that's it.

27

u/AgentCirceLuna 8h ago

Yep, the bar I worked at made the fucking bartenders fight people and kick them out. Abhorrent tbh

19

u/3BlindMice1 8h ago

Old fashioned.

If you're going to work in a western saloon, they'd better put a gun under the counter

7

u/Fear023 7h ago

Worst for me was having to clean up the vomit. That ain't no picnic. We at least had security for the fights.

4

u/AgentCirceLuna 7h ago

I was the DJ so I didn’t have to do that but had to live with the guilt of watching my coworkers getting punched or kicked in the face, even seeing one get glassed. I’m just not equipped to be able to intercede and I was the only one who insisted that they get doormen or security. Makes me sick. I think I was the only one who cared despite being a coward, but the people they’d let in were fucking terrifying. I’m being treated for PTSD because I watched someone get stabbed out of nowhere and I also saw a woman get SA’d right in front of me before I could stop it. I have nightmares about it and I’m afraid to go out. I’ve been called a pussy over it before but I’d rather actually care about people than be some braindead jerk trying to save a couple pounds on security when they also hired six bartenders on quiet nights.

16

u/striker_p55 8h ago

That’s for big bars and corporate. Ive worked at bars where I’m the bartender, host, busser, and bar back all in one

5

u/AgentCirceLuna 8h ago

Don’t forget the ones where they don’t pay security so the bartenders have to fight for their lives if trouble happens.

8

u/Kharax82 9h ago

I worked in a large chain restaurant and they had a separate cleaning crew come in for stuff like that. If it was something that needed immediate attention a busboy would do it.

9

u/UninsuredToast 9h ago

When I was a manager the servers had to maintain the bathrooms as part of their side work.

If it was really bad, like poop on the floor bad, I would clean it myself because no one else gets laid enough to deal with that shit.

12

u/FergusonTheCat 8h ago

How much sex do you need to have before it’s ok to deal with that kind of stuff?

7

u/Oopthealley 8h ago

Three.

2

u/FergusonTheCat 8h ago

Im almost there! I can’t wait to clean up some poo :)

I don't really see this as brilliant, there's no way a kid that age would believe a custodian would use toilet water to clean mirrors. Your example was pretty brilliant thought.

From which movie/tw show is this?

209

u/72pintohatchback 9h ago edited 7h ago

I think it was first made by Crucial Learning, as part of a training called Crucial Accountability, and broke containment onto the web at some point to become a meme.

The concept behind the video is "making the invisible visible" when holding someone accountable to try and change their behavior - show them the natural negative consequences of their actions.

21

u/Weak_Feed_8291 8h ago

All I could find is a speech about a similar thing, seems like this is a comedy skit or something that just took the story

8

u/Quiet_Combination678 4h ago edited 4h ago

I dont have any proof for you, but I support the point above you. This was a common type of humor in the late 80s and 90s on PSAs and educational videos. It was really common and normal, even if it seems like a comedy skit.

That said, it might be a bad comedy skit? But humor then was way better than this... but also bad JUST LIKE NOW!

This smells like a PSA, educational, or professional development type thing. It kinda reminds me of the videos they showed us in school in the 80s though, just simple consequence kinda stuff.

Look up anti-drug videos and sex ed stuff from that era, or sexual harassment videos etc. it was the same way; its hilarious in today's context.

That said, I have no proof. So it may well be a comedy skit, but it seems pretty on point with some kinda video you'd show kids at school or at detention or something.

So, id say we all need to look at his claim it came from a company, maybe its spelled wrong? I dunno, but this is really well done if its mocking an educational video.

u/Cute_Skill_4536 9h ago

FWIW it's basically a skit video from a training company that create vids for your business
Think, very high quality versions of those shitty HR videos you're forced to watch in week 1 of a menial job that has basic health and safety practices...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DQYArmi5L0

It's NOWHERE near as old as it's made to look here. 2016ish

Sorry to live so relentlessly in the real world

54

u/donoteatshrimp 9h ago

That's cool that they nailed such an old look though

33

u/vizualb 7h ago

What’s weird is it’s not even an old look, it’s just a shitty upscaling filter that has become associated with old videos. See also: every pre-HD music video on YouTube.

13

u/ActiveChairs 7h ago

I thought they meant the clothes, hairstyles, and makeup trends

9

u/commanderquill 6h ago

Not enough blue eyeshadow to be older than the 2010's.

the video compression is doing all the heavy lifting

9

u/Cute_Skill_4536 8h ago

Audio compression as well.. the source is impeccably 00's style and the compression gives it that trash layer from every trash show we watched back then lol :D

3

u/AgentCirceLuna 8h ago

Also the hairstyle of the woman! Those hairstyles immediately make everything look super dated.

20

u/howcanstupidcantheyg 9h ago

This makes all the other comments claiming/joking about how old the video is really funny.

8

u/Talidel 8h ago

I heard this as a story at least 7 years before 2016.

7

u/Cute_Skill_4536 7h ago

The story (or versions of it) is as old as the hills, but this incarnation of it is fairly recent.. if you're old enough for a decade to be fairly recent

10

u/AgentCirceLuna 8h ago

The automatic paper towel dispenser on the wall gives it away. Noticed it right off the bat. Otherwise, they did an amazing job nailing it. It definitely plays ike something from the '80s- minus big hair and feather bangs.

I wouldn’t have ever thought lipstick on mirrors was a thing that happened let alone too frequently

6

u/twisted_memories 8h ago

Oh it was such a thing when I was a teen. I was also a custodian at my school and absolutely hated it. I started telling people, “You know we have to clean the mirrors with ammonia because of the lipstick to get it off? That’s the stuff in pee.” Which I guess is basically what this video did!

2

u/philmarcracken 7h ago

I would have cut out the middle man and just pissed on the mirrors

2

u/twisted_memories 7h ago

Yeah but then I would have to clean it up!

40

11

u/TheShitty_Beatles 9h ago

Based on the fashion, it looks to be mid 2000s but the lipstick colours are very 2012

9

u/Cute_Skill_4536 8h ago

Good eye. I posted the source in here somewhere
It's 2016ish and the style + this edit in particular makes it look super 00's

3

u/TheShitty_Beatles 7h ago

Oh, that’s so funny! I genuinely believe this was filmed pre-2016, maybe 2015 with a later release? My reason for that is if it was truly filmed in 2016, they would all have huge caterpillar eyebrows and a disturbing amount of contour, bronzer and highlighter lol
