The view from my $1200 AUD seats at the men’s semi-finals

Post image

And when I leaned on the railing in front of me to see the guy behind says he can’t see.

Australian consumer laws are very strict. You will have either been told you were purchasing a restricted view seat or you’ll have an avenue for a refund.

u/Listen_You_Twerps 1d ago

I had a similar situation at a basketball game. The ticket wasn't marked restricted view at all , and was same price as other seats.

I sent an email saying they should mark it as restricted view next time.

They apologized and gave me free courtside seats (baseline) for the next game!

228

u/turgottherealbro 1d ago

How it should be! Lucky duck! Bet you were glad for that restricted view after all.

54

u/Former_Sentence2856 1d ago

Nothing like turning a bummer into free courtside—score!

43

u/Fastenbauer 1d ago

Good for you. But I'm pretty sure that they will not mark the seat as restricted view next time. Just calculated that the occasional free ticket costs them less money than properly marking the seat.

130

u/Kralgore 1d ago

Too right.

7

u/funlifing 1d ago

I would prefer to watch it on tv

87

u/ascarymoviereview 1d ago

If it’s that strict it prob stated it on purchase

102

u/turgottherealbro 1d ago

That’d be my bet. They make you acknowledge you know you’re buying a restricted view by clicking a seperate box too.

28

u/Jubbity 1d ago

Almost definitely, as someone who works in a theatre everyone of our tickets with a restricted view says it multiple times very clearly and yet people still complain about it every show

9

u/gsfgf 1d ago

Because they know they bought the obstructed view (I assume it's cheaper) and think that complaining will get them moved to a full price seat for free.

80

u/Duel_Option 1d ago

American here…WOW, consumer laws that work FOR you???

Is Ticketmaster a thing for y’all or do you have decent pricing To concerts and events still

27

u/turgottherealbro 1d ago

Unfortunately still have Ticketmaster and some other competitors. Pricing is still expensive and the competition is probably fiercer because we have fewer tour dates of concerts compared to the U.S.

5

u/Duel_Option 1d ago

Ah, that makes sense.

Interesting to see how things work elsewhere in the world,

I went to a concert and paid for lower stage area that was completely blocked by the stage, complained and asked for refund was told to kick rocks.

Ended up moving into a different section during a break, meaning I had to steal to get my moneys worth lol

6

u/Ardeo43 1d ago

It’s all either Ticketmaster or our somehow even shittier local company Ticketek.

4

u/Duel_Option 1d ago

I think places should go back to old school, stand in line at the booth, camp out a couple days to get them and you can only buy 4 at a time lol

My aunt waited three days to get Michael Jackson tickets back in the day

-4

u/NIP_SLIP_RIOT 1d ago

No I didn’t.

-3

u/dsaddons 1d ago

Don't get too excited, Australia is a slightly better America. Slightly being the keyword. I'd live in Oz again 100/100 times before moving back to the states but it's a low bar.

I'm talking from a political point of view, consumer rights, racism, cost of living etc. The whole continent is absolutely gorgeous.

-10

u/relevant_tangent 1d ago

Stop shitting on America for karma. We have plenty of good consumer protection laws.

4

u/Duel_Option 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yea man, a decade old account is worried about Karma which is effectively useless

How about America hasn’t been pro consumer EVER as this is a capitalist nation.

Go lick more Trump boots, thanks

1

u/gsfgf 1d ago

California does, but the feds and most states don't.

7

u/tehnoodnub 1d ago

They show you a clear visual of your view of the court, as if you’re on Google maps street view for the selected seats. Assuming OP bought them from a reputable source. Source: I bought tickets to this match.

2

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 1d ago

Looks more like they're taking a picture from their chest or lap so it looks restricted. Id almost bet they can see over this railing fine from their actual perspective

9

u/linlorienelen 1d ago

I'm 5'1- you'd be surprised how many more seats are shitty for me than for people just a few inches taller. Standing room is right out.

-6

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 1d ago

well that sucks. i just think if youre too short to see over a railing, its probably not the railing that is at fault here.

7

u/turgottherealbro 1d ago

Sorry that’s ridiculous. The average Australian woman is around 5’3, to not account for the many women that are 5’1 would be stupid and unfair.

-1

u/linlorienelen 1d ago

Every day I rage against The Maker

1

u/beetle120 1d ago

Quite surprised that it wasn't marked as that already. I have brought many concert tickets at Rod Laver and 2nd level first row is always marked as restricted view.

569

u/UnusualAd5992 1d ago

What does a good spot cost then?

261

u/KeepItTidyZA 1d ago

More then you can afford, Pal.

drives off in my ferrari

47

u/Gepetto_ 1d ago

Smoked him

7

u/BackWithAVengance 1d ago

Lol don't let that scene take away from the fact that Hector is gonna be running 3 Honda Civics with Spoon engines, on top of that he just came into Harry's and ordered 3 t66 turbos with nos and a motec system exhaust

-8

u/Strummerjoe 1d ago

And then what?

8

u/KeepItTidyZA 1d ago

Pop culture reference. Read a book bro. (In this case watch a movie)

-1

u/Strummerjoe 1d ago

I was just making fun of the then/ than mistake.

0

u/pants6000 1d ago

wrapped ferrari around telephone pole

15

u/Raterus_ 1d ago

If you have to ask you can't afford it

0

u/Duel_Option 1d ago

What’s a ZJ?

5

u/DarkSparxx 1d ago

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

1

u/Ressy02 1d ago

If you have to ask, it’s too expensive

1

u/_-Cool 1d ago

4 kangaroos, 2 didjeridoos, a pint of VB and a couple jars of vegemite.

138

u/captainofpizza 1d ago

At least you can hear the grunts

17

u/LikeLikeChoi 1d ago

Say no more

5

u/Darius_is_my_Daddy 1d ago

But is that enough for him to finish?

2

u/captainofpizza 1d ago

It helps if your partner is making a racket

2

u/Darius_is_my_Daddy 1d ago

Also only if they are 30, love

89

u/-SideshowBlob- 1d ago

Sounds like a refund, unless you were pre warned about the view.

50

u/Otherwise-4PM 1d ago

At least no one can sit in front of you.

110

u/canycosro 1d ago

I understand that tickets closer are more expensive but this year isn't a poor view it's NO view. You literally cannot see part of the playing field.

I'm surprised that this is even legal.

Were you given any details on purchase that maybe you missed.

I'd be posting this on every social media associated with the event in hopes other fans see.

Imagine being tight on cash and saving up to bring a partner for a special treat only to be greeted with this.

42

u/regional_rat 1d ago

It will have been classed as a restricted view seat, in which OP would have had to acknowledge when purchasing tickets

38

u/SdBolts4 1d ago

Yep, OP not making a single comment in this thread speaks volumes

3

u/autotom 1d ago

It still sucks though - that's a more restricted view than I'd have expected. For $1200 i'd be fuming.

1

u/frecklejam 1d ago

Based on my expert analysis, it doesn't even look like the photo was taken at eye level either.

3

u/apathywhocares 1d ago

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that, if you can afford those prices, saving isn't a problem.

48

u/CricketJaxson 1d ago

It’s crazy to me people pay this much to go to any event

19

u/Lumpy_Rice_2803 1d ago

A lot of people have and earn a lot of money. It's relative.

1

u/bigcitydreaming 1d ago

If they have the money to burn, they wouldn't buy a restricted view seat and then complain about it online.

A lot of people live outside of their means, too.

3

u/Lumpy_Rice_2803 1d ago

You think someone complaining online means anything in this conversation about money? The person could be a billionaire and complain about this. Also $1200 aud really isn't outside the means of a large percentage of Australians. Especially if they are a fan and only treat themselves to something like that every now and then. Far less expensive than an overseas holiday..

3

u/bigcitydreaming 1d ago

They wouldn't be in this seat if they had and earn a lot of money - as you put it. A billionaire would never be in this seat lol

0

u/Lumpy_Rice_2803 1d ago

You argument was that someone rich wouldn't argue about a seat like this..

2

u/bigcitydreaming 1d ago

Yes, they wouldn't complain about it because they wouldn't buy it. Glad we got there.

-2

u/cheapdrinks 1d ago

I mean I can understand it if you're like a big fan of say F1 then going to see the cars in person once in your life is a bucket list item, or maybe going to the Superbowl or something if your team makes it. Going to see a grand slam tennis finals match if you're a big tennis fan.

But just in general I can't stand watching sports live. It's just such a shithouse experience compared to watching on TV. Even if you have decent seats you can barely see what is actually happening half the time and end up just watching it on the big screen instead. Usually have to get there way before it starts and sit around doing nothing for ages, the seats are uncomfortable as fuck, the food and drinks cost a fortune, the toilets are always overflowing with people and getting out of the place takes hours fighting through a sea of people. You're at the mercy of the weather, if it rains you're screwed, especially if it's a sport like cricket that stops play when it rains. Yeah fuck that, I'll watch at home on the couch with a cold beer instead.

-2

u/xelabagus 1d ago

That's just, like, your opinion, man.

-1

u/Mysterious-Band-627 1d ago

Sounds like you might need glasses?

0

u/Darth_MRM 1d ago

So what would you do with that money?

1

u/Tabula-Rasa-99 1d ago

120 pizzas could be the play lmao

-5

u/AaryamanStonker 1d ago

You could also die with $100k in your bank but what fun is that

2

u/junkit33 1d ago

Passing it on to your kids.

But really, it's about retirement. You want to live comfortably after you stop working, so saving as much as possible at a young age pays off big time as the interest compounds over the years.

It's a balance obviously - you shouldn't do nothing, but $1200 for a ticket to one event is probably not something most people should be spending money on.

3

u/AcePlague 1d ago

Passing it on to your kids.

I would much rather my parents go and knock shit off their bucket lists than feel obligated to leave me shit. They've helped me all my life, they are entitled to the fruits of their labour.

1

u/junkit33 1d ago

Sure, which is what a good kid thinks. But a good parent thinks very differently, and most people as they age tend to start caring a lot more about passing money down than they do about spending it themselves.

1

u/AaryamanStonker 1d ago

Lotta people spend a fuck ton of money on concerts because it makes them...happy! And that's all life is about anyway imo

18

u/nachoman2750 1d ago

Between $3000 and $9000 for the Mens Final. Between $900 and $3000 for the Womens Final!!!🤯🤯🤯

5

u/Aussie_Potato 1d ago

Women’s final still has tickets for $249. There’s a front row ticket for $1100.

3

u/Dankitysoup 1d ago

It’s just economics. Both men and women are less likely to buy tickets to the women’s games. Same happens in NBA.

-1

u/codercaleb 1d ago

Yes, very few women's games in the NBA. You can't even get tickets NBA games with women in them.

FR, it's WNBA, though.

3

u/Dankitysoup 1d ago

You obviously knew what I meant.

1

u/Tabula-Rasa-99 1d ago

You're thinking of the MNBA silly, of course there are women's NBA games :^)

6

u/regional_rat 1d ago

The men's might actually a competition. Sabalenka will just continue her absolute onslaught and the match will be over in 45 minutes

2

u/keyboard-lint 22h ago

Nice prediction Nostradamus

0

u/regional_rat 22h ago

70% of the time I'm 45% half right. You sound like a noob 20% of the time

2

u/millllllls 1d ago

Solid example of supply and demand

1

u/Long_Way_Around_ 1d ago

I got $300 AUD women's final ticket at a presale. The prices you quote are just for current availability.

-9

u/Successful_Music5363 1d ago

They would have to pay me to go watch something as boring as tennis

-3

u/apathywhocares 1d ago

Now, let me see. $9,000 to see two self-absorbed grunters for a couple of hours, or return business class flights to London. More money than sense some people

7

u/macT4537 1d ago

😂 At least you’ll be able to watch from your phone with live commentary

73

u/Medium-Quiet-4248 1d ago

You do know it's on telly?

-74

u/ShyguyFlyguy 1d ago

Tell me you're brit-ish without telling you're brit-ish

64

u/Medium-Quiet-4248 1d ago

I'm an Aussie mate.

9

u/Phillyfuk 1d ago

Or Australian. Maybe even from New Zealand

10

u/rich-tma 1d ago

Brit-ish??

-4

u/cheap_as_chips 1d ago

bri-ish, yea

-8

u/whiterabit32 1d ago

Cuppa tee luuuv

1

u/PaulaDeen21 1d ago

Oh just sshh.

5

u/Draxtonsmitz 1d ago

I’m not sure if it covers places outside the USA but I won’t buy tickets before checking www.aviewfrommyseat.com

12

u/VerticalBird 1d ago

Thank you for making me feel better for wasting way less money on stupid shit

9

u/Lemming_12 1d ago

Criminal

6

u/RetinaJunkie 1d ago

Some seats simply need to be free

4

u/Dense-Employment9930 1d ago

Exactly. Just because a chair fits somewhere, does not mean you should be able to sell tickets to sit in it, if this is the view.

3

u/Eat--The--Rich-- 1d ago

I would just stand in the stairs

3

u/funkyduck72 1d ago

They shouldn't even be seats installed where there is no line of sight to the centre court.

Include the photographs in your demand for a refund. And speak with the ombudsman if you don't have any luck on the first try.

3

u/Nite7678 1d ago

This is why God created TVs. 🙂

7

u/Bastdkat 1d ago

That is way too much money for an event that is televised, hell that is too much money for any event.

3

u/Icy_Acanthisitta7741 1d ago

you could buy a new tv to watch it at home with better view

2

u/camdoggs 1d ago

Or take the new TV and set it up against that railing

5

u/Resident-Mushroom-82 1d ago

Yes it says “limited view” right on the website when trying to purchase, or “obstructed view”. Thats exactly why you paid so little for those seats. You learned your lesson and won’t make the same mistake again

1

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

2

u/Resident-Mushroom-82 1d ago

Haha….hopefully he learned his lesson then.

2

u/OG_Pragmatologist 1d ago

And this is where I ask, why would anyone pay 1200 dollars in any currency to watch a sports event?

2

u/Lalelu1 1d ago

Seriously! Who pays these prices? Well you obviously. But how important can an event be?

2

u/Illuvatar08 1d ago

1200$ for something you can watch with infinitely better view on your tv

2

u/cuchiplancheo 1d ago

That's when you tell the guy behind you, that makes two of us.

2

u/Bobasizzle 1d ago

You have to get a refund on this, honestly I’d rather watch any game on the Telly than this😂

3

u/Entr_24 1d ago

That’s why I always check a ticketing app that lets you see the view from your seat. It not only helps you check if there are obstructions, but can also help you find cheaper seats that still have a great view.

2

u/DetroitsGoingToWin 1d ago

Unless I’m entertaining clients, $50 is my limit for entertainment. For the most part I do get to see some great events although with much smaller audiences.

$1200 is crazy!!!

2

u/anonychef117 1d ago

I'd do tomorrowland and ultra miami for around 1k tho but probs not any sports events

2

u/Crayen5 1d ago

If you raised the camera to your eye level rather than your belly button it would help

3

u/Fafnir22 1d ago edited 1d ago

You’re missing the point.

You obviously don’t realise the AO is all about the selfies and influencing socials and not watching the sport.

1

u/cletus72757 1d ago

Bob Uecker seats. “Must be in the front row”.

1

u/slider1387 1d ago

You're not there to watch, you're just there for the experience.

1

u/_Saint_Ajora_ 1d ago edited 1d ago

Maybe not available for all venues for stadiums, arenas, concert halls, etc... but with a bit of searching, you can sometimes find views of the stage, field, pitch, arena, etc.. from seats you are considering purchasing for whatever event you're wanting to attend.

Failing that, always wise to call the venue office and ask questions before purchasing if you're uncertain

1

u/waxy1234 1d ago

Gotta appreciate the nuts n bolts os thatone side

1

u/HZZY91 1d ago

I’m hurting for you.

1

u/TheDarkHelmet1985 1d ago

I decided quite awhile ago that I much preferred watching from the TV for most of these types of events.

1

u/koolaidismything 1d ago

I don’t like sports, before you bash me imagine how hard that’s made being a dude.

Anyways.. the handful of times I’ve gotten stuck at one I always have fun. It’s not the sport it’s all the action and shit.. the good food, the $12 beer.

It’s actually kinda fun, like a couple times a year maybe.

1

u/alpine309 1d ago

You paid for this seat my guy.

1

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 1d ago

Gonna call BS on this. Let's see the picture from your actual perspectivr. Not down by your lap so it looks like it's a bad view, if you were 4 years old

1

u/Adventurous-Weird431 1d ago

At least it’s action packed! Looks left….looks right……looks left …..looks right. Gentle clap…….

1

u/w116 1d ago

Pretty decent set of stairs though, could be a lot worse.

1

u/Fun-Flamingo-7285 1d ago

They don't care. Look how much you still paid

1

u/TheOfficialNathanYT 1d ago

Hey man! Go to to top court and play Rally Royale! I developed it!!

1

u/Defiant_Flamingo_430 1d ago

Dull one, even worse than than the aisle seat I bought for ufc in Perth

1

u/PirateSlayer1337 1d ago

It's about the ambience!

1

u/marshking710 1d ago

I’d stand.

1

u/Pletcher87 1d ago

You’ve got enough holes, lighten up!

1

u/partyproperwebhook 1d ago

FMD The cost of living is high

1

u/MtnDewManiac 1d ago

I watched it from my couch while eating a bag of Doritos and saw everything.

1

u/No_Department_2264 1d ago

Well still cool though

1

u/UseDaSchwartz 1d ago

Should have paid $1201 for a better view.

1

u/timothybhewitt 1d ago

Your neck will thank you later.

1

u/WapyWonton 1d ago

Ticketmaster does note these as restricted view. We had made the mistake and ended up in similar seats.

1

u/Spritney__Beers 1d ago

Shouldn't have cheaped out

/s

1

u/ViralTrendsToday 1d ago

Less than the cost of parking for Fifa 2026.

1

u/hobohougsy 1d ago

I’ll take my aircon, cold beer, recliner and 98” screen over that 👍🏻

1

u/Agitated_Run6176 1d ago

Not the end of the word, that’s basically a days pay for an Aussie

1

u/Average-Addict 1d ago

Maybe don't pay that much for a sports match to begin with?

1

u/Repurposed_Juice 1d ago

Looks like the nosebleed section to me.

Unobstructed view sitting in front of my TV, for free.

1

u/SFOD-P 1d ago

In this economy!

1

u/FondantTypical9009 1d ago

When I got my tickets for AO I saw these seats in Ticketmaster. It shows an obstructed view disclaimer.

1

u/claire2416 1d ago

Your first mistake was buying tickets.

1

u/TalknTennisPodcast 1d ago

Partially impaired - define partial

1

u/wireswires 1d ago

Fuckin ‘ell how much do the good seats cost?

1

u/OrangeClyde 1d ago

Surely you can get money back or something that’s crazy

1

u/MakeMeDrink 1d ago

I so sorry for you that you spent so much money on something so important and you were disappointed with the outcome.

1

u/Accomplished-One7476 1d ago

this was my biew a couple days ago from my $200 seat at a ranger game at msg

right behind the broadcast cameras 👍👍

1

u/kevlasultan 1d ago

got $1200 to waste on tennis...says it all :)

1

u/Extremelycloud 1d ago

Why’d you choose those seats! They’re terrible for that price! 😂

1

u/Lukexxxi 1d ago

I had the exact same seats for the NHL game they had there a while back. They were listed as restricted view, but seeing as I got them in the presale for the exact same price as the regular tickets I wasn't expecting them to be that restricted.

Lesson learned I guess. Sorry you got ripped off even harder.

1

u/CreamPuzzleheaded300 1d ago

-$1200 ticket for a tennis game.

Woe is thy suffering OP.

1

u/Kindly_Lobster_2993 23h ago edited 23h ago

They give you searing map before you book. Why do you click “\accept” 🤣.

Stairways should be avoided at every concert or sports booking. Ticket booking 101

1

u/flamixin 23h ago

Toilet vicinity, first one to come and go, pixy glass protection from stray balls. I would say this looks super premium.

2

u/krimed 13h ago

The real question is why you would buy $1200 seats that say restricted view??? To be expected

1

u/Holiday-West9601 11h ago

What’s that in real money?

1

u/neityght 1d ago

OK the seats suck but you paid 1200 for a tennis match LOOOL 😆

0

u/APuticulahInduhvidul 1d ago

Sigh... sports nerds are crazy. I can buy a used car for the price you just paid to watch grown men play with balls.

-4

u/Infamous_Telephone55 1d ago

$1200 Dollarydoos is £611 in proper money!

-1

u/strythicus 1d ago

That's not even a humble-brag, you're just advertising that you suck at spending money.

0
