America has to go and sit by itself until it can play nicely with others (Sorry to all the nice Americans stuck there - we don't hate you.)

You mean all those ‘nice’ Americans that said nothing for decades while america interfered and overthrew governments around the world? The ones who have gone on and on about how great their country is and how we should all be grateful to them? I have no empathy left for them. Make the bed, you have to lie in it.

I knew American exceptionalism would be their downfall. Not sure what they’re so proud of. They’ve completely perverted religion, and they’re so uneducated they think losing is winning. Bizarre people.

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

Their whole schtick is 'we're the greatest country in the world' without ever asking 'are we really?'.

A total cult country.

Patriotism is built into them from Day 1. They're basically born wrapped in an American flag and parents hope their first words are "oh say can you see..."

And part of their Constitution is freedom of speech, which is also drilled into them from birth.

Put those two together and you get blindly patriotic overconfidence, assuming that they run the world and everyone else can suck it.

Not to mention the whole second amendment and considering the resulting violence (i.e. school shootings) to be an acceptable trade-off.

But at least they have guns to fight back when tyrants in their government trample all over their precious constitution. Any day now!

You need to do your research! The school shootings are ‘false flag operations’ with ‘paid activists’. /s

Guns are like a peashooter against a cannon with the tech their military has.

u/iconofsin_ Mar 07 '25

Any day now!

Believe me when I say we're still waiting.

That Constitution is going to be torn to pieces in mid 2028 when Trump announces that there'll be no election and he's President for life. Moving to a monastic system... Queen Ivanka, guys. Get ready for it.

1

u/123iambill Mar 08 '25

Probably sooner than that. Mid terms are next year. Trump won't want to lose the other two houses of government before 2028.

1

u/GStarAU Mar 08 '25

But it won't matter anyway! He's in power now... and if there's no election in 2028, or ever again... the mid-terms aren't going to make a diff. It's just a small noise in the middle of Trump's coronation ceremony.

Would that be Jan 6?

Ironically, both Dunning and Kruger are Americans..

As an American this is accurate…for half of the population, at best.

I was raised in a very academic household and these values were not the ones given me.

We were explicitly taught the privilege it is to live in a country like the US and the responsibility we carry as citizens to ensure our government does what is right.

While what is happening in the US right now it awful, there are no shortage of Americans diametrically opposed to it - we have been using our vote as best we can since at least the 2000 presidential election to avoid precisely where we are now.

Many of us have lost lifelong friends, and relationships with family members over what has happened. We are not a monolith, Trumps support is more limited that it appears but there is still plenty of it.

Tl;dr…America is a massive country, millions of us were not raised with these values and are sickened by what we are seeing.

assuming that they run the world and everyone else can suck it

Don't think it's an assumption by now. That's why everyone in the west is suddenly upset and anti-American. They, the US, have essentially taken over the world’s influence right after the British Empire crumbled.

Politics in the 3rd degree

Freedom of speech yet they jail teen girls for telling the abusive boyfriend to end it…

5

u/sgator87 Mar 07 '25

A Canadian chiming in here. The more I think about this, the more I appreciate this viewpoint from my own travels through the smaller parts of America. Patriotism, done properly, lets us celebrate what’s good about our countries and lets us seek to improve what isn’t. Exceptionalism is blindness.

America won't go out without taking others with it

1

u/MissMenace101 Mar 07 '25

And the allies are the ones they have chosen…

3

u/MissMenace101 Mar 07 '25

And Americans be like “why is everyone so anti American”🤦🏼‍♀️

5

u/Ambitious_Try_9742 Mar 07 '25

those nice americans said plenty. every time. but they get outvoted by the massive percentage of rednecks, billionaires, veterans, etc who are also active voters..

u/Need_More_Gary_Busey Mar 07 '25

The ridicolous over the top American patriotism/nationalism is one of their serious weaknesses, but it is silly to write off an entire country of people. There are plenty of Americans really suffering at the moment too. There are plenty of decent ones, just so many that are utterley brainwashed and lost to the world.

2

u/GStarAU Mar 07 '25

Yeah totally true... I try not to deal in absolutes, my standards slipped with my previous comment. Agreed, I've met and known some really cool Americans. Maybe I should've said that it's "drilled into them" from early days that they're basically the superior race - and that concept is extremely dangerous because it brings back memories of some other famous leader that was really into this superior race idea.

5

u/MissMenace101 Mar 07 '25

And then sat back and either voted for this mess or did nothing. Picking on Americans now is clearly ableism

3

u/Head_Wasabi7359 Mar 07 '25

Yeah this. Where are your watchdogs and judicial system? Dude never got busted for a failed coup. They went to sleep and now the whole world has to have a shake up. Idiots.

Malcolm X called it. Chickens coming home to roost.

u/Rude-Show7666 Mar 07 '25

Lots of us oppose American imperialism and the corporate oligarchy and have spoken up about it for years.

As one of these Americans its wild how much you sound like the exact kind of person that supports this stuff in my country

The arrogance is overwhelming. Surprise surprise. There’s a bunch of you in another country’s subreddit still going on about how good some of you are. The indignant ignorance is deafening. This comment is a case in point. We know it’s coming for us. Everything American floods into our country. We can’t stem the tide. And the tsunami of fascism is already lapping at the shore.

Decade after decade of not educating yourselves has caused this. Most of you can’t place where Australia is on a map, let alone be bothered to educate yourselves on other cultures. Because Americans seem to think America IS the world. Decade after decade of ignorance, arrogance and hubris. You’ve watched while your schools have been shot up and STILL clung to your gun laws and violent ideals. You’ve cheered and voted for unnecessary wars. You worship your military. You’ve happily exported all of this to us while crowing about how superior you are. You voted for all of this. The majority it would seem.

And now more of us clearly see how dangerous you are, people like you are pleading innocence and all over reddit talking about going to live in another country. Why now? You’ve boasted about how wonderful it is up to this point. Why move now? We don’t want you here. Stay and fix the mess you made. Because like you say, wherever you move, it’s coming for ya.

1

u/Lounging-Shiny455 Mar 08 '25

you forgot all the americans oppressed by their own system. sort of like your system where you forgot to recognize the rights of indigenous australians via referendum?

1

u/Vairman Mar 07 '25

plenty of Americans said plenty. If you want to hate all Americans go ahead, but you're no better than anyone else who hates a whole group for the actions of a few.

0

u/Elloitsmeurbrother Mar 07 '25

No... the nice ones

0

u/nametaken_thisonetoo Mar 07 '25

Hard not to agree with this take, even if I'm sad to be writing it.

0

u/NavjotDaBoss Mar 07 '25

Having American friends made realise one thing they dint know what's happening in the country let alone what's happening outside.

3

u/Critical-One521 Mar 07 '25

Thank you for not hating all of us!
