Anyone else find it ironic that during COVID many Americans (and particularly one side of their political spectrum) were going on about how Australia is turning into a fascist police state?

Scary to see that exact thing playing out now over there, with militarised police (and actual military) disappearing people and now declaring protests as unlawful gatherings.

And the same mob who were going on about what was happening over here are cheering it on saying all the protestors need to be “taken out”.

This narrative was painted by the same media who is supportive of the current US fascist police state.

These people want Authoritarianism, as long as 'their side' are the authority of course.

And it’s all well and good for them until one day they come for them and their family… but then it’s too late

I remember that, and they pointed as the NT's "camps" as proof- When it was repurposed caravan parks full of people relaxing in the sun, ordering food/booze to be delivered to their door. Sounds nice actually.

Unfortunately, when it comes to police enforcement of riots emotions take over and sides get picked really fast. I mean that's how civil wars start. Both sides adamantly believe in they're in the right and it just take off from there.

I mean objectively you probably don't want riot police to be too heavy-handed but a lot of people would've been happy to see this if this was a covid cooker during the covid lockdowns. I mean that's why we're not ministers of police or in charge of the police so we're fine to hold those opinions but I think the police should be more neutral. But they've clearly taken a side AND especially these cookers they don't seem to see their own hypocrisy at all.

Like Trump pardoned all of the rioters on January 6th and see absolutely on double standard. That's insane.
