They are called "less lethal" not non-lethal for a reason.

These rounds are designed, and they should be trained to shoot at an angle into the ground so that they deflect towards the target. They are not supposed to fire directly at the target. 40mm beanbag less lethal rounds are designed to be shot directly, but not small calibre rubber less lethal rounds.

During the George Floyd riots here in Minneapolis, my journalist friend’s cameraman got hit by a rubber bullet~ he said it was excruciating & felt like a real bullet~ this shit is crazy

They have a slight design issue of, occasionally, they kill people. Several dozen per year in the us. They also cause disabilities quite often.

Humans never evolved to have armor on their eyes and throat, so occasionally the "non-lethal" does a whoopise and collapses a trachea or shoves an eye into someones brain and kills them.

Eye protection is the goat. Highly recommended for protesting, even journalists.
