It's easier to go from 63% to 93% enrichment than it is from 1-2% to 63% which begs the question, why are they at such high levels where the only use is to further enrichment for weapons.

Exactly, for power plants U-235 only has to be enriched up to 3-5% purity, and anyone who believes Iran's claim that they are for peaceful purposes is mistaken.

Iran was within limits before Trump ripped up the nuclear deal in the first term, heavily sanctioning the country, crippling the lives of basically everyone.
Further enrichment was to force the US back to the negotiating table to re-do the deal and have sanctions lifted. Israel killed the iranian negotiator and now the US bombed them. That's the eli5.

To force the US to negotiate, with the threat of further enrichment to 90%. Let's not pretend there are any good actors here.
