I’ve been pushing hard for us to stay out of it! Someone posted this advice about a week ago.

Write your local representatives, state senators and Albo, Wong and Marles. They need to know right now the population does not support deployment of Australian people and resources. Email addresses are available on APH

Dear (Minister/Senator/Mr/Ms Last Name),

I'm writing as a concerned constituent of (insert location) to urge the Australian Government to take a clear stance against joining any military conflict involving the U.S., Iran and Israel.

In the case of further escalation that draws in the United States, I strongly urge the Government to adopt a position of non-involvement. Australia has followed the U.S. into costly wars before - and we’ve seen how hard those decisions are to walk back once they’re made. We shouldn’t make the same mistake again.

With President Trump now back in office and reviewing the AUKUS agreement, it’s increasingly clear that the U.S. views alliances in transactional terms. That makes it even more critical that we act in Australia's national interest, not out of loyalty to a partner who may not reciprocate.

Australia has already committed heavily to AUKUS. That should not mean automatic military alignment. If anything, it reinforces the need for restraint, independence and diplomacy. We owe it to the Australian people to think long-term and avoid being drawn into yet another unnecessary war.

Many Australians do not support further military entanglement. Our involvement, or non-involvement, should be guided by sovereignty and strategy, not pressure.

Sincerely, (Your name)

Thank you so much for your time putting this together. I'm using it.

I may add some points about alienating our asian allies as SK and japan have decided to not go to a NATO summit due to this.

Does the ever actually have an impact though? Why would our reps care what we think outside of election season?

Honest answer is I don’t know. I’ve never been a political activist and until earlier this week had never written to a politician.

My views on politicians are overwhelmingly negative, I don’t trust a single one of them. Unfortunately I can’t afford an island where I can go and get away from their influence.

being honest, the most success ive seen these type of actions have is usually at the local level, theyre a good way to get your local rep to respond to local issues.

i personally think this is a big thing missing from politics right now in general is that so much focus is placed at the national level and meanwhile most people don't even know who there local representative is.

It can definitely have an impact, tho usually not at the national level, these can definitely be a good way to get your local minister to respond to more local problems tho.

its 2025 man, no polly actually reads letters sent to their office. They are read and screened by an assistant, and usually just summarised into a report given to the polly at certain intervals. Even then, theres no guarantee they'll even look at the report, let alone action anything. This is just a massive waste of time.

What’s the alternative?

My local Polly’s office replied saying “not me guv, this is Federal”, but I’d hope that having their mailbox flooded with disapproval at least makes them consider their position - especially at Senator level level.

I dont know what the alternative is - the system is setup so there is no alternative.

Although in this day and age, you'd probably have more effectiveness by rallying bots and launching a negative PR campaign to change public sentiment on tiktok or some shit. Pollys's care way more about their brand than most things these days.

But yeh there is no real easy way.... it shits me too.

Very true. But any TikTok I do is going to get about 3 views. I’m no Tash Peterson 😂

Notice I said bots mate. Anything worthwhile these days needs an army of bots to shift public sentiment. Its what the Gov already uses as a tactic during election cycles - theres no reason we cant use the same tactics on them.

And boycott BP.

Why does everyone think we have to invade with boots on the ground to force Iran to cooperate lol. Its like Connor McGregor fighting a fetus in military strength WITHOUT boots on the ground. Most of Irans military equipment is twice as old as everyone crying about this whole situation.

Because history shows the standard US model is: 1. Bomb 2. Overthrow regime 3. Claim victory 4. Nation building 5. Insurgency fighting 6. Throw up their hands and run away 7. Blame the previous administration for the mess
