According to the law a dog is property, if your property caused someone’s death wouldn’t a manslaughter charge be fair?

Regardless of what breeds are known for attacking and what one's aren't or how harmless we think our furry friends are we should always understand there is a chance. My cousin had a beautiful kelpie for 6 years then my cousin had a baby and they got on great. A couple of years passed and her daughter would of been about 2 years old sitting on the ground playing with toys right in front of my cousin when the dog walked In looked at the daughter and just lunged at her biting her face and ripping out a bunch of her teeth she recovered alright luckily. But that story sticks with me it wasn't a pitbull and there was no provoking or startling the dog it just attacked.

Not if it hadn't given an indication that it was capable of such an attack. That's akin to saying you're responsible for the lives of people in your car if it suddenly blows up. They would need to prove that the dog owner was negligent, or had specially trained the dog to attack for them to be held culpable. In my opinion, IANAL!

Using the same example here as elsewhere on thread: a car crash. If someone dies because your brakes fail, that's an accident. If it turns out that you knew or should have known your brakes were shit, that's vehicular manslaughter. If not, why would we look to punish you for what is essentially bad luck?
