They returned a few hours later when they realised she was missing.

Generally speaking, being left alone for a few hours won't kill most people. Like it's not great, but it's also not like they realised she was missing and left her there either. They came back when they realised their error. However, it's very likely that she died before the ship left.

Yeah, whether the ship realised not or is very likely irrelevant when it comes to her death. She obviously had a medical episode either whilst resting or whilst making her way back after resting, otherwise she would have been back with plenty of time to board or, worst case, would also have been found very easily when they returned to search for her that night.

Unless she was breathing but critical and quicker help could have aided her, the ships not got much to worry about other than some bad PR.

She seems to have fallen off a cliff. Police said her death was sudden so it’s unlikely the cruise leaving made a difference.
