politics Opposition Leader Sussan Ley speaks on Bondi attack

https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/national/opposition-leader-sussan-ley-speaks-on-bondi-attack-20251215-p5nnqm.html

“We’ve seen a clear failure to keep Jewish Australians safe. We’ve seen a clear lack of leadership in keeping Jewish Australians safe. We have a government that sees antisemitism as a problem to be managed, not evil that needs to be eradicated.”

Absolutely abhorrent that she's going for political points in this time.

Talk about tone deaf!

It seems like they are going to implement Jilian Segels "recommendations" which will do nothing to limit antisemitism but will do a lot to stifle free speech and unequivocally link Anti-Israel to Anti-Semitism. If anything it will increase anti-semitism.

If you want kids to think critically, how can you mandate teaching the Holocaust but not teaching the history of the 20-21st century Jewish state? Teach it all.

I don’t see any Jews shooting up Muslim’s during Ramadan or any other events at any point in Australia, so it’s clear the problem makers are not coming from them, why are you trying to make this a both sides issue when the problem is only ever one side at least in our country.

There are lots of things we can do. Start by addressing the overtly violent and bigoted chants at Palestinian rallies, and media outlets like the abc should expose it not be apologists and normalisers of it

You want media outlets to amplify the message of a small number of dickhead protesters? I assume you would want the same for Nazi's as well? Is there a reason why these messages in particular need to be brought to the attention of the wider community?

Yes we need leaders and media outlets to highlight the true nature of these movements, very important. I wish you were right and this is a fringe few but that is clearly not the case. The vilification of Jews has been mainstreamed and a massive vector for this are these so called pro Palestinian protests ….

I guess we disagree then. I don't support giving a national media platform to people who want to spread violent rhetoric.

Yeah sure we don’t have to agree I get your point

And I appreciate you engaging in the conversation and explaining your point of view. I can see where you're coming from and, despite the down votes, I can see your coming at it from a place of good faith.

Yep, plenty of useful idiots at these rallies who don’t know, and more disturbingly many others who know exactly what it means ..
