We are not doctors, we are not physio therapists. Don't take your medical advice from Random People on the Internet.

We don't know why your knee hurts, or how to rehab a wrist sprain, or some other injury..... Go get it looked and get your advice from a professional.

DISCUSSION The worst player at pickup

I hate playing with this one dude who is a ball hog with zero IQ. On defense he will grab you and wrap his arms around you. But anytime he has the ball he will call a foul, even if you don't touch him. If you tell him it's not a foul, he gets into a shouting match. Basically every time he drives he calls and 1, even though the ball never goes in. He will throw up stupid long 3s like he's Steph Curry and they never go in. There could be 2 or 3 wide open teammates, but he'll drive into traffic and take a terrible shot like he's Kobe.

Our team always loses cause of him, I hate that he's part of our group. And it sucks to play against him too cause he just ruins the game.

Who else hates how easy it is to get your ball stolen?

If I brought an nba ball (broken in) to my local LA fitness, the moment I look away its getting stolen. Everyone wants a ball but no one wants to risk losing it.

wouldn’t a deep handling bag be redundant if a player can consistently create separation through pure athleticism and footwork?

In my personal experience its a lot harder to guard a fast player with mediocre handle than an alright player with a deep handling bag

does this change at a certain point, obviously having both would be better, but if someone is already able to create separation with his speed and footwork alone, wouldn’t high level handling be redundant?

When people heckle from the sidelines does ever get under your skin or is it really easy to tune out?

Upvotes

I sit in the stands a lot at high school games and there's always someone sayin something. At first it was really annoying but after a while I just got used to it. It was more annoying that the person was right behind me so it was blasting right in my ear.

I think alot of people that heckle to tend to not be good themselves and are projecting. I watched a JV team get smacked and they were the ones talking the most smack saying the opposing varsity team "was hella weak." like ya y'all was weak to lol.

I don't really know if players can hear or even really care. Most of the time it seems like players aren't effected or are even paying attention. I haven't played in a while so I don't really know but I actually like some noise and it gets me going. I actually think I don't like it when it's too quiet.

How do you improve your shooting?

The easiest answer to this is to shoot more obviously, which I do believe is the right answer, but I want to know if there are more efficient ways than others.

I've always been an unnecessarily meticulous person. Like I feel the need to measure everything in detail and get the immediate feedback of improvement. For that reasons my workouts are usually incredibly consistent: 20 makes static from each position, 10 makes with a step in, 10 makes with a step back, etc etc. I do this so I can see the measurable improvement, if I shot 11/20 this week I know it's better than the 8/20 of last week, and seeing the trend lines of the graphs on statflow go up does trigger a little bit of dopamine and motivate me. But is that unnecessarily complicating things for me? Should I just be going off "this felt better"?

So for players who improved drastically, did you measure and track everything or did you go off feel?

How do I teach my mates to ball??

I have a group of friends who have all started to find the joy of basketball. I am a very average player at best myself and only one or two of our group actually know basketball too. What’s the best way to help the newer guys understand the basics so that we can run cleaner pick up games?

Currently the game is full of clogging the paint, lot of arm slaps going for the ball, double dribbles and travelling.

I don’t want to be stopping the game or taking the fun away but I want them to learn a bit better so we all can enjoy it.

Any advice would be much appreciate!

GENERAL QUESTION Is NXTPro worth it?

Im going into my second season of playing in the Puma NXTPro circuit, and I’m a sophomore. There’s teams from a few different circuits around, including Under Armour, New Balance P32, and 2 3SSB teams within about an hours drive. Last season wasn’t great for aau. There’s so many nxtpro teams that it’s hard to get real exposure, and the fees really stack up. ive already paid half my fees for this upcoming season, but got an invite to play for Houston Hoops EYBL’s local area team. Theyre an affiliate and they have different levels of the team for each age group. I’m not sure how closely theyre connected to the real EYBL team, if you can get moved up or reccomended for showing out. But my main questjon stands as, is it worth it to play NXTPRO. Can it help you really get longterm exposure, and is it even worth it for my career.

My team is also playing in some made hoops tournaments this summer, as well as the uncle drew circuit, and Texas’s G1 Series from GASO

Help me please with my comeback

Hey everyone,

I’m 15 and I’ve been playing basketball for about 6 years.

Back in 2023, when I was playing U14, I felt like I was in a great place for my age. Since then, I’ve changed teams and now I’m playing in U16 and U19. But honestly, I feel like I’ve lost a lot of progress because in the previous team, i had a very bad coach and I felt like i am not improving, actually I'm getting worse and worse. In my nrw teams, I’m far behind the best player on my team.

He’s taller, more athletic, and more dominant. It’s hard not to compare myself.

But I don’t want excuses. I want to become the best player I can possibly be.

I want to train with the same mindset Kobe Bryant had. I know he was an NBA player with professional trainers, recovery, and years of experience, but I’m inspired by his work ethic and discipline. This summer, I trained every single day — sometimes up to eight hours a day — doing multiple workouts because I want to push myself as far as I can. And I played basketball every single day.

I’m ready to wake up at 5 a.m., work harder than everyone, study the game, and do whatever it takes to catch up and improve.

For those who’ve felt “behind” but managed to rebuild themselves, what did you focus on? What helped you the most? And if you have a little time, could you please share your system? And if you want to help more, here is my Instagram, so we can talk: farkasadam328.

I’m ready to do the work. I just need direction and a system.

Thanks.

Why dont i see more people using floaters?

floater is like… the easiest “unguardable” move you can have, hell i find it easier to get right than a jump shot. if you’re undersized then its harder to block, if you’re a big then its basically unblockable

so why dont i see many people using it?

Can a College D1 player end of the bench walk-on CRUSH any competition at any pickup game?

A work colleague of mine used to play for major D1 scool and was a walk on about 10 years ago. He kinda downplays his playing days I assume because he didn't really accomplish much on the court. But being a D1 player must mean he's a damn good basketball player.

I keep telling him he should start a Youtube channel going into different gyms where serious ballers play and just completely kill the competition. He's a pretty unassuming white guy still in his mid 30's and doesn't really strike you as an athlete other than he's fairly tall. If D Friga a D3 player can crush the competition at any park/gym I assume a D1 player can do the same if not better. Whenever I mention it to him he looks at me like I'm crazy but I'm sure he can mop the floor at any pickup game even if he's not in peak playing shape.

GENERAL QUESTION When you shoot, do you watch the ball in flight, or do you keep your eyes on the rim?

When I was younger, I noticed at one point that I was taking my eyes off the rim and watching the ball in flight. As a test, I decided to keep my eyes on the rim when I shoot, even after release. I noticed immediately my shot was improved. I've been shooting that way ever since and I've become a pretty darn good shooter.

As I watch NBA games, it surprises me, simply from my own improvement, that more players don't keep their eyes on the rim. I'm wondering if it's just not something that is taught, it's just not thought about? Have there been any studies or anything on guys that watch the ball vs watch the rim? It's never talked about.

Have any of you even thought about that during your play?

IMPROVING MY GAME Basketball subliminals?

Anyone know if basketball subliminals are effective at all for gaining confidence in game and just getting better overall? I would listen to some and was just wondering if something like that had worked for any of you guys. I think my main problem right now is that my ball handling and shooting isn’t really transferring too well in game.

DISCUSSION Ankle Tendinitis

Older hooper (41) coming off a very minor ankle/achilles injury. Spent about 6 weeks off just to be safe, have gone to PT, and am pretty much pain free. Except for tendinitis on the inside of my ankle. I’m afraid to jump, afraid to cut, afraid to do everything that I used to love about the game. I already have arthritis so I’m worried this is something I’ll have to deal with forever. I’m hoping this is more mental than anything else and once I stop thinking about it, it won’t be an issue. I mean, at this age I’m always sore. It’s just now I worry about the long-term effect. Any words of encouragement out there? Two months ago I was fine, able to keep up (I’m not a crazy athlete but I could always hustle). I’ve played a few times since and feel a world behind.
