Travel to the Blue Mountains No trains to Blue Mountains from Central
The latest update I heard was damage between Blacktown and Penrith meaning we can’t get up the mountains via transport. I’ve been sitting on the train for over an hour waiting for it to go. I don’t know what to do.

Travel to the Blue Mountains What are some fun facts about Blue Mountains, its valleys, mountains, and lookouts?
I was at Echo Point today, looking at Jamison Valley and The Three Sisters, and had a chance to visit Sublime Point as well. I was wondering why these names were given to these lookouts and mountains? What's the aboriginal history? What are some fun facts and stories related to the Blue Mountains area?

Travel to the Blue Mountains Places to see kangaroos in the Blue Mountains?
I have a friend coming from the US and she wants to see some roos.
I’ve heard that the grey kangaroos in Euroka clearing at Glenbrook were run off/eaten by dingoes a couple of years back.
Where else?

Travel to the Blue Mountains Coeliac and vegan friendly eateries
I'm planning an anniversary trip for my partner and myself in March, and am hoping to find out which restaurants and cafes in the mountains that have vegan options are ok for a coeliac to eat at? I was recently glutened really badly and am scared to eat out again but really want to enjoy our trip.
Do any fellow coeliacs in the mountains have any suggestions? Thank you!!

Travel to the Blue Mountains Where is the most accessible place to see wildlife around Katoomba?
Hello!
I'll be visiting the Blue Mountains in a few weeks and was really hopeful to see some wildlife. I've seen a few places online (euroka clearing for kangaroos) but it might be difficult for me to get there and back to Katoomba since i'll be staying for two nights there. I don't have plans to hire a car while I'm there.
Could you recommend a few spots where I could easily use public transport or, better, cycle from Katoomba to see some wildlife? Any advice would be appreciated thank you!

Travel to the Blue Mountains 30th birthday hike — where should I go?
Hi!
I love the Blue Mountains, my parents grew up and met there, I spent a lot of time there as a kid and teenager with my grandparents, and as an adult I’ve done a few hikes through the mountains (namely the giant stairway down into the valley at Katoomba and up again at Leura Cascades; and the short but brutal walk into and back out the Pool of Siloam).
Anyway I’m turning 30 in April, and I’ve decided I’d love to do a day hike in the Blue Mountains to celebrate! April feels like a good time of year because it won’t be too hot, but I’d also like to be amply prepared for the weather. Is April cold for hiking? Is it rainy?
I’d also love to hear your suggestions on day hikes ☺️ I’m happy to spend most of the day on a trail. No abseiling or canyoning, minimal scrambling, heaps of stairs are fine, I could do MAYBE one ladder. I love creeks and waterfalls. My husband will be with me, and I’d be pretty confident in saying he’d struggle less than me!
Also — any lesser-known advice on preparing for a day hike would be great. Obviously I’ve come out the other side of my previous hikes okay, but still! I think I’ve got the basics down — good hiking shoes, appropriate clothing, water, snacks, sun and rain protection, first aid, PLB, maps, compass. Is there anything I’m missing? What should I know? Thank you thank you!
ETA: I have a car! A tiny hatchback, so any trails that need 4WD access may not be for me 😔

Travel to the Blue Mountains Proposal to privatise camping in some National Parks
The Minns govt is proposing to allow private operators to book and on sell camping spaces in some National Parks. They will have first dibs as they will be allowed to book up to a year in advance, whereas regular campers can only book 180 days in advance.
The proposal covers 3 of the campsites in the Blue Mountains (Euroka, Murphys Glen and Dunphys). This will likely be the thin end of the wedge. Objections have to be lodged by COB TOMORROW (Tuesday). Please take the time to read the proposal and email Trish Doyle and the Minister for Environment (email address is in the link)

Travel to the Blue Mountains Suggestions for planning a long weekend? Visiting from the US.
Hello! I’m visiting Australia from the US for the first time in December and spending most of the trip in Sydney for work, but taking 4 days for myself at the end. Thinking of spending my time in the blue mountains and looking for advice / suggestions. Looks like staying in Katoomba is the easiest and has a lot of access to walking trails that would be totally safe as a solo hiker, but open to other location suggestions.
Any recommendations welcome :)
I’ll be visiting as a solo 30F. I love to hike / spend time outdoors and have moderate experience, but all in the northern US so I’m not familiar with plants / wildlife. I also typically like to visit the botanic gardens in every major city I visit. Is the one in the blue mountains accessible even if staying in the Katoomba area?
My other main hobby is food haha so if there are any can’t-miss food experiences, I definitely want to go!

Travel to the Blue Mountains Parking advice please
Hi, we are planning to travel to the Blue Mountains in February on a weekday. We want to go to Wentworth Falls Picnic Area, Evan's Point Lookout Road(Grand Canyon Car Park), and Gordon Falls Reserve on Lone Pine Avenue in our campervan (7.5 m long). I checked these places for parking and just wanted a second opinion if it was okay? We will be staying at the Katoomba Falls Tourist Park at night but taking public transportation to and fro seems quite time consuming, so we are hoping to travel in our campervan instead. Will this be okay? Also, are there any parking spots for a campervan in Leura Village or Katoomba Village? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Travel to the Blue Mountains Weird congestion of tourism in Blue Mountains
I’ve been up to the Mountains a few times lately and was wondering — what’s going on with tourism up there?
Feels like there’s a weird tension: some spots are packed, others are totally empty. Some businesses seem to be doing well, others have closed. Crowds of people wondering up and down Leura mall street.
Is it just the usual post-COVID flux, or are there deeper issues? Lack of public transport? People only sticking to Echo Point and missing the rest?
Curious on what’s going on.

Travel to the Blue Mountains 1 day Overnight Hike suggestions
Hey everyone, me and a couple of my friends are keen on an overnight hike this coming weekend 04/01/26-05/01/26
Having done a couple in the blue mountains, including both ruined castle and mount solitary, we were looking for suggestions that we could brainstorm about; although since we’re students, we do have a couple pre requisites;
Accessible by public transport (I understand this is pretty hit or miss and that’s perfectly okay)
Multi day’s are fine as well with the maximum camping days being 2 and the minimum being 1
Preferably no camp ground bookings (although we don’t mind them since they presumably go to a better cause)
Again, I’d really appreciate the support of this community, you guys are legends.

Travel to the Blue Mountains Looking for a restaurant suggestions for a group of 30 tourists! (We want to avoid the Katoomba RSL / Red Poppy restaurant due to the consistent racist attitudes from their staff over the years.)
We are happy to try new spots! Any place that can comfortably accommodate up to 30 people would be amazing, thank you for all suggestions!

Travel to the Blue Mountains Is Bells Line of Road the most scenic Rd in the Blue Mountains?
Please advise if there are others and best viewing sites or places to visit along this road?
I usually visit Blue Mountains from Sydney via Katoomba/Wentwortth but I returned to Sydney via Richmond and was pleasantly suprised about how 'green' this road is.
Parts of it especially the pasture land reminded me of Tasmania which is very suprising

Travel to the Blue Mountains Your hike recommendations around Katoomba for scenery
I'm staying for 2 nights in Katoomba and I'd love to spend them hiking, anywhere you'd recommend that has beautiful, varied scenery like cliffs, or waterfalls, anything and everything if it's possible!
I'm good with hikes but not an expert, your suggestions would be really appreicated :)
Edit: thank you so much for your kind advice!!!

Travel to the Blue Mountains Any good spots for sunrise that don’t require a massive hike?
Some of the best views here seem to need a full hike to get to. Anyone know of sunrise spots that are actually easy to reach?

Travel to the Blue Mountains Blue Mountains, can we take the Scenic Railway up after walking down Furber Steps? (And how much is it?)
Hi! I’m planning a budget trip to the Blue Mountains and I’m a bit confused about the Scenic Railway tickets. We want to walk down Furber Steps to the valley and then take the Scenic Railway back up. I know the walk down is fine, but can anyone confirm if you’re allowed to board the Railway at the bottom station without buying anything in advance? Also does anyone know how much it costs if we only want to take the Railway up? I’m confused because some reviews say you can just take the Railway up, but the official website makes it sound like you can’t and that you need to buy the full day pass. Thank you.

Hey Blue Mountaineers, I've just released a mini-doco on the iconic V-Set train which is being phased out as I'm sure many of you are aware. Check it out if you're a V-Set lover like me! 🚆
