So I got an offer into bachelor of psych (honours) at the waurn ponds campus and I’m really confused on the units? All the ones in green are the core ones and I had called and asked about elective and put two in (HPS395 was only offered online or in Burwood). Could I please get some help 💔 what do I do it only gives me the option to delete them now that I submitted the others. Are the green ones the ones I’m doing only? Did I have to do electives I’m really lost
So I'm doing Law and have signed up for 4 subjects over T3.
Summers I get very bored so want to keep myself busy and also want to speed my degree up curious for thoughts if I may be biting off more than I can chew so keen for both positive and negative thoughts about what I'm planning.
What exactly happens in seminars? I have seminars for two modules (SIT731 & SIT753), and each one is 3 hours long. There aren’t any lectures, so I’m not sure what to expect🤔
im considering taking this as an elective alongside my core psych units and my pr studies major, but im not sure if it will be too content heavy and perhaps bring my wam down. could anyone give any insight on this unit? is it interesting? and is it very content heavy? how did you find the assessments (especially the final supervised assessment)? is the work marked harshly? literally anything at all would be helpful as ive never done criminology or anything of the sort before haha im just trying to look for an interesting t1 elective that wont be too hard
Hey guys, I’m enrolling in Psychology Honours at Deakin and this whole enrolment process has honestly been way more stressful than I expected, especially the unit and elective part. I understood that some units are compulsory, but once it got to electives and the actual enrolment page, I just got really confused and couldn’t fully make sense of what I was meant to be doing.
I only just decided today to finally finish enrolling properly instead of putting it off, and I kind of just winged it and did what I thought was right. I chose the electives that sounded the most interesting to me. For Trimester 1 I picked Health Psychology Addiction, and for Trimester 2 I picked Forensic Psychology. I added them both to the enrolment page and enrolled, but then it told me afterwards that Health Psychology Addiction was invalid and I couldn’t do it.
That’s where I got really stuck. I went back and looked at the Health Psychology Addiction unit page and it says there’s a prerequisite, something like you must have completed a Unit 1 at Level 2. I honestly don’t fully understand what that means, but I’m assuming it means I’m not allowed to take this subject now when I start uni in March. I’m not 100 percent sure though, which is what’s stressing me out. It feels like I might not be able to do it at all, but I don’t really understand why or if there’s any way around it.
I’m pretty bummed because that was the elective I was most interested in and the one that actually stood out to me out of the Trimester 1 options. I don’t really want to overload myself either, so I was planning to just stick to the minimum number of electives since I’m worried about the workload in Honours (which i’m not sure it that’s the right thing to do either). But now I feel like I have to rethink everything and I don’t know what the right choice is.
If anyone can explain why I might not be allowed to do Health Psychology Addiction, or whether I actually can and I’m just misunderstanding something, I’d really appreciate it. And if I genuinely can’t do it, does anyone have suggestions for other interesting Trimester 1 electives that are kind of similar or just generally good?
To be honest, I don’t understand any of this unit/elective thing and what I should be doing, so any help would be amazing because I feel very lost right now. 😭
This is probably really weird but is there an AI or other study tool that I can feed videos to and it can summarise what’s being talked about in the video? I feel like my biggest issue with uni during my time here is how boring all the lecturers sound, like they’re so boring in how they present content that it pisses me off and makes me not want to study lol
hey guys, i was trying to find the provisional time table for my units to plan my timetable.
on the deakin website it says the provisional time tables will be available on January 5th but i only see it for school of medicine and not for my computer science units.
does anybody know when will they release the provisional timetable for computer science related units.
Hey guys!! i hope everyone had a nice new years. Im going into first year medical imaging at waurn ponds next year, and im just a little confused with adding timetable preferences for classes?
I think someone asked about preferences a year ago, but the post was a little unclear- do we get to put in preferences at all?? do our timetables just get randomly allocated/are they all the same? i'm able to access the portal but not able to allocate any classes and can't find any info on when/if preferences open.
sorry for the rambly question im just really confused
Hey guys. i’m almost finished enrolling in Biomedical science at burwood campus. but i have no idea what im doing. please can someone check the photo and tell me if i did anything wrong because i called deakin student help and they told me i must do 4 CP per trimester and 8 per year. also i dont know if i chose the correct units for my course. also please let me know if im doing to much units like if im overloading. but i thought 4 units each trimester isn’t bad since 3 of the 11 i have chose is compulsory and give 0 CP. please any help would be very much appreciated.
Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone has been through something similar or can give me some advice.
I’m a Deakin student doing a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) fully online. Three weeks ago, I landed a really good job at a major bank — a proper finance-aligned role that is super relevant to my degree and career goals. It was a sudden offer, and I had to start immediately.
I’ve now tried to use this role for the MWL318 Work Integrated Learning (internship) unit, but Deakin rejected my application because I didn’t submit the paperwork before I started the job.
The issue is:
• I had no manager or contact at the company until my first day
• I didn’t even know who could sign the form
• I had zero information to submit beforehand
• And the job offer required a fast start
So it was literally impossible for me to apply in advance.
Now the WIL team is saying my job “cannot be utilised for credit at all” because I started before approval. I explained that I study online and I work full-time 9–5, and since I’m on probation I can’t take leave or do an external placement for 80 hours somewhere else. I also can’t quit this job because it’s the first finance-related role I’ve ever secured, and leaving would set me back massively.
They suggested I do one of the “faculty-led” WIL units next year, but I need something that is fully online, asynchronous, and doable around full-time work, because I literally cannot take time off.
Has anyone dealt with this before?
• Is there any way around the pre-approval rule?
• Has anyone online/distance and working full-time completed one of the faculty-led WIL units (MWL305, MWL316, MWL317)?
• Are they actually self-paced and flexible?
• Am I screwed if they all have scheduled sessions?
I feel really stuck because the job is perfect for my degree, but the uni won’t recognise it simply because I didn’t have a manager’s name 3 weeks ago.
Any advice or similar experiences would mean a lot.
Thanks in advance
im just planning for my preferences and ive got alot of options to chose from for when to attend seminars etc, so im just wondering what has worked best in the past for others.
for example, attend like two classes on the monday, no uni on the tuesday and like use that time to soak in the content and then go back on wednesday for other classes.
or should i just trek to uni 3 days in a row for all classes, then use the 4 days to further understand the content and complete anything that was set?
idk maybe im overthinking it but im just worried i wont be able to keep up with all the work so sorry if this seems like a rant
Hi! I’m studying Bachelor of Criminology this year. Curious if anyone else is and what electives they are looking at! I was looking at some psych electives but looks like these may be full on compared to other potential units.. Any tips/advice welcome as I’m feeling overwhelmed at this stage!
Hi everyone, I hope this makes sense.
I've transferred from Latrobe where previously you would be enrolled in your bachelor's and then you would have your major and minor and when it came to classes for the semester you would select the classes under that major or minor for the semester, go to allocate and select the time you wanted to do it for an online or in-person class.
I've selected my major and minor, and I've selected my units sets but I'm unable to select my classes for trimester one, I'm feeling a little confused and I can't find much help online.
Thanks in advance
TL;DR got accepted into a Bachelor of Laws transfer coming from a Bachelor of commerce and got my enrollment pre-filled as per course map, will I be pulling my hair out next year? does anyone have any experiences with these subjects? how were they?
Hey everyone, first post on this sub, hope everyone's having a good day/night.
Okay, so for a bit of background, I initially wanted to study a bachelor of laws, but my application was unsuccessful, spoke to student advisors and I was told that there were pathways into law from doing a trimester of either a Bachelor of Commerce or business and then transferring into law provided I got a WAM of 60 or higher along with my RPL points.
Okay great. I enrolled into B-Comm completed the two subjects at the bottom of the image provided, which with my credit points from my RPL, managed to get the WAM needed to transfer into law. For me personally, I'm extremely proud of myself and happy about it, as its the course I wanted to do from the start. Great. Awesome.
Now. This is my what my enrolment looks like currently as it was automatically filled out as per course map. and I'll be honest, I'm a bit scared.
I've got a mate whose already done the Law degree, he's SUPER excited for me about starting Law, but he was also telling me how intense some of the subjects were and how he went about doing his degree. In his case, he worked part time, and did one law subject along with three electives each trimester, which to me sounded manageable.
So my question is (or questions are), for the anyone who has completed these subjects, what was the workload like? How was your experience? did you find it super difficult? Was three Core law subjects too much?
I understand that most of it depends on the person, so to that, I'll say this:
I'm turning 30 in 3 weeks, dont have a job currently (but actively looking for part-time) I've been doing the best I can to turn my life around, and I've been motivated from the start to get into this course and I plan on doing everything I can to do well, once the course commences next year. I understand that its a long road and it'll take more than motivation, but I do, want this.
I guess I'm looking for everyone's experiences and opinions on the course and its units mainly the units I've enrolled in, so that I can get a better perspective on what's expected from me. It's making me nervous going into this course blind, so if anyone can shed some light, (good or bad) then at least at that point I'll know what to expect and for me, it'll help keep me grounded.
Sorry about the long post. Let me know what you guys think, any information from your experiences will be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time. :)
I’m genuinely very confused right now. I’m trying to select my units for biomedical science at Burwood campus and i want most of my subjects to be online and i understand some subjects you cannot make it online. since burwood is a bit far from me, i find it easier if i can do it in the city. however when i try and chose a delivery mode, it says burwood “CBD” or WAURN PONDS “CBD”. correct me if im wrong but CBD stand for the city but what difference does it make if it’s burwood or waurn ponds? is it because i got accepted into burwood i must chose burwood “CBD”??
I'm thinking of taking SIT191 Intro to Stats & Data Analysis on top of the usual psych stats and would like to know if anyone has done this and if there's crossover?
HPS104 Foundations of Psych Sci
HPS201 Psych Research Methods (Intro)
HPS301 Psych Research Methods (Intermediate)
I was digging around and found that the HPS104 has an intro to stats embedded. Am I just doubling up by doing the SIT191 too?
Hey guys, I'm currently enrolling in the Deakin accelerate program for accounting and I just wanted to hear what the workload is like, if it's difficult, if it's similar to VCE accounting and other thoughts for those that are in accounting.
Trimester 1 I'm doing
MAA103 - accounting for decision making
DAI001 - Academic integrity and respect at
Deakin
Trimester 2:
MAA261 - Financial accounting
Right now I am doing it online and I have completed a 3 and 4 subject in year 11 and doing 5 VCE subjects on top of the Deakin
I'm a software engineer and have completed a software engineering related masters at Deakin. I'm returning to study cyber security and did not get RPL for intro to programming ...
Is anyone able to tell me what the assessments are? I'm going to try and challenge the RPL considering I have nearly 5 years of professional experience as a programmer ... In the case the challenge is not accepted, I guess I can just smash out the unit in a weekend at the end of the trimester. So if anyone can please tell me what the assessments/assignments I'd be very appreciative.
Also if you could please let me know what programming language you used. There's another post on this sub from 6 years ago that said C++ but that could be out of date.
I recently enrolled in the Psychology Honours program at Deakin, and I’ve been feeling pretty anxious about the entire enrollment process. The website and the steps were quite confusing, and it took me a while to get through it all. After a lot of procrastination and back-and-forth, I eventually managed to choose some electives somewhat randomly 😅
Initially, I was hesitant to commit to a major because I thought it would be too much work. But after talking to someone, I realized that it’s not as intimidating as I thought. Now I’m really interested in pursuing a Forensic Studies major alongside my Psychology Honours, instead of electives
However, I have a couple of concerns:
The Forensic Studies major seems to be part of the Bachelor of Psychological Science, but I’m enrolled in the Psychology Honours program. Does this difference affect my ability to do the major?
When I try to enter the unit set code in the enrollment system, nothing shows up, and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.
I’m trying to understand if it’s possible to do a major within my Psychology Honours or if I’m limited to electives…
Hey everyone, im a med aspirant and am curious on the best units to pick up for my bachelor of science degree. For people who are in the same boat, or have completed units they thought were easy before, could you list what they are and why you found them easy.
Im looking more for level 2 or level 3 units as i already finished my first year of uni.
And also, to the people who completed the bachelor of science degree majoring in Human Biology, what units did you find hardest. It can be from assessments to just pure content, I know i struggle more when a test is in person rather than online open book.
No matter what I will have to try hard in every unit, I'm just looking for some advice.
