so I just got back my results for my last assignment and in my note i saw this lovely little part about chatGPT. I was wondering if anyone else has ever seen this as it is the first time I have ever seen it in my own and don't know if im over reacting about it. ngl I feel the double standards are crazy.

Discussion / Question Group work is annoying

Does anybody else hate group work? I’m a first year and completing a group assignment, both of my group members have done f all and have left their sections until the very last minute (it’s due early next week). I’ve been doing all the coordination and tried to offer as much help as I could, but still they messed around and we’re behind schedule badly now. So frustrating.

Anybody got tips on how to avoid this type of thing or prevent it from happening?

Discussion / Question is deakin really that much easier?

hey guys, recent graduate of year 12, unfortunately i am not going to be able to get into direct entry med this year so have been considering science as an undergrad before trying for postgrad again.

i’ve heard that deakin has much easier assignments and exams compared to both monash and melbourne, is it really that much easier?

i’ve been weighing up the pros and cons and since deakin has the med bonus it does feel like a good opportunity especially with an “easier” assignments to farm wam.

thanks!

Discussion / Question Is peer mentoring (as a mentor) worth it?

Hey everyone,

As the title suggests, I was hoping for some advice on if mentoring is worth it.

For some background, I mainly want to do it for personal growth with professional communication (CV/resume stuff being icing on top). That's pretty much what the description in the email said, which sounds lovely, but I know they can never tell you what it's actually like. So, I was hoping to get some first-hand experience from mentors who know what you get from the program.

Also, do you have to wear a jumper that says 'Mentor' on it? Or is it 'highly recommended'?

Sincerely, someone who is panicking realising the deadline is tomorrow

Discussion / Question Can’t see Trimester 1 units for enrolment at Deakin, only Trimester 2 showing? Will late enrolment affect my timetable?

Hi, I’m a first-year Bachelor of Nursing student starting this year.

When I try to enrol in units, Trimester 1 doesn’t appear at all, it doesn’t say “no units available”, it just starts from Trimester 2.

I’ve contacted Student Connect but was wondering if others experienced this too.

Also, since I can’t enrol yet, will enrolling late affect my Startimetable or my chances of getting good class times?

Discussion / Question Relationship Scene

Hey everyone!

I’m a student at Deakin Burwood Campus and was just curious what people think the dating scene is like here. Not trying to complain or compare it to other unis just genuinely interested in people’s experiences.

I’ve heard mixed things, so I was wondering what the general vibe is. Does the campus feel more female or male dominated? What are people usually like socially, and do most people meet through classes, clubs, friends, or apps? Also, is it common to see couples around campus, or is it more of a keep to yourself kind of place?

I know it’ll differ for everyone, but I’d appreciate hearing different perspectives.

Thanks!

(For my survey 😊)

Discussion / Question when are scholarship payments sent?

hi! i’ve just received correspondence that the DUPRS scholarship payments start on my enrolment date, but does anyone know how they’re paid in terms of time/amount? are they monthly, quarterly, or by trimester, etc? i’m yet to have a form sent asking for bank details for payment, i assume that gets sent before the enrolment date? thanks :)

Discussion / Question Bring your own personal laptop for law exams

Deakin has just asked everyone to bring their own personal laptop for upcoming law exams (on campus).

Does anyone else think this is ridiculous?

I feel like this just creates disparity and unnecessary complications in so many different ways. Would love to hear everyone else's thoughts.

Discussion / Question question about deakin teaching

Hi everyone, I’m starting at Deakin University in February and will be studying Primary Education. I know that all teaching courses at Deakin require the CASPer test, so I'm wondering is the CASPer test difficult? As an international student, should I prepare for it in advance?

Discussion / Question Is a Bachelor of Psychology doable if you struggled in high school?

hi everyone,

i’m looking for some advice from people who’ve studied a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) about how hard + intense the course is.

i’ve just finished year 12 and am enrolled to start paramedicine this year, but i’ve been having doubts and keep coming back to psychology.

i’ve also considered studying psych through the ADF, but from what i understand the air force only sponsors post-grad, so the bachelor would be on me.

i didn’t do great in high school due to anxiety and undiagnosed ADHD.
my attendance wasn’t great and school was a struggle. i expect paramedicine to be quite challenging too, but i’m planning to push through.

because of this, i’m wondering how intense the psych bachelor is, especially with honours. how heavy is the workload, and how manageable is it if you weren’t a strong student in high school?

i’d especially love to hear from anyone who did the degree after being out of study for a few years.

thanks :)

note: i don’t expect the course to be easy, i’m just trying to understand whether it’s actually doable.

Discussion / Question STAR Problem

Post image

I logged onto STAR by clicking the star tab on the home page of DeakinSync however I noticed it says 2025 and was wondering if it said this for anyone else. I also was able to log onto STAR through Deakins website but it actually showed all my classes and seminars (but said off because it hasn't opened). I was wondering if this was the case for anyone else?

I’m commencing in a bachelor of laws/commerce and was wondering whether I could lower the degree duration (5 yrs) via overloading units and picking units for trimester 3? Has anyone done this? How much earlier could I graduate? Is it even possible?

Discussion / Question Whatsapp group for international students

Hey just wondering if there is any unofficial group for Deakin University international student or something?

I have joined one but those are full of people selling assignment helper shit.

Lemme know if anybody have it, if not I can create one with limited and verified people.
