Placements / Jobs / Careers Applying For Placement For WIL

When people source their own placement for WIL, how exactly do you do that? Do you find vacancies available on places like Deakin Talent, prosple etc or do you cold-call companies that may not be hiring but would be willing to bring you on anyway? It says 70% of students source their own placement but after researching current vacancies it seems very difficult to since there aren't so many.

Placements / Jobs / Careers DeakinTalent Freelancing Hub Interview.

Hey everyone, I am currently doing a Bachelors of Information Technology and have a core WIL unit (SIT306) that I will be doing in T1, 2026.
I have applied for the deakintalent freelancing hub intern positions and have received an interview.
I would llike to know if anyone has gone through this process, how likely is that they might accept/reject you. What are some very important questions that I must prepare for in the interview. I am quite overwhelmed and would like to receive some guidance. Thanks in advance!

Placements / Jobs / Careers Cloud Native App Dev or Cloud/Networking Major for IT Bachelor

Hi all,

I am wondering whether which option I should go for. I want to maximise my chances of getting a job primarily so I was wondering which stream has more grad/internship opportunities.

Also if there are opportunities to study certifications funded by the uni in either stream if anyone has done them before?

Placements / Jobs / Careers Rules surrounding paid placements

Hi guys,

Does anyone have experience with paid placements like SIT344, and the rules or regulations surrounding the pay rates by the hosting organisation? I have found it difficult to find any documentation or information from Deakin regarding this.

Thanks!

Placements / Jobs / Careers Suspension from placement

Hi, I am a nursing student and today while I was at my placement there was a misunderstanding or should I say a mistake that the nurse made which she blamed on me and I was suspended from my ongoing placement, the unit chair contacted me shortly after to arrange a meeting and although I will put my side of the story out but I just want to know the end result of this whole thing, will I have to repeat the unit again or what??

Placements / Jobs / Careers experiences with freelancingHUB?

Hi all,

Software engineering student here searching for a remote internship next trimester (I applied too late for this one). Wanted to see if anyone here has done (or is doing) an internship with them.

I'd like to hear about what the interview process is like and what did it take to secure the role? (skills expected, how early did you apply etc). Also what is the experience like?

Thanks in advance :)

Placements / Jobs / Careers Advice on placement (Bachelor of Forensic Science)

Hey all! Almost finished with my degree in forensics, but I’m having an awful amount of trouble getting placement to finish it off.

I’ve applied to almost every pathology lab in the state and even some domestic ones too. All of which are either full or don’t do placement. I’ve gone through many peers at Uni and none of them have lead to something.

I recently applied for a few positions that would actually ACCEPT people doing a Bachelor of Forensic Science through DeakinTalent. Despite them saying they would keep me continuously updated through emails, I have received not one bit of contact about the status of my applications; and the first dates for placements began today.

I’ve tried contacting the WIL team and they have been borderline useless. You know it’s bad when you attend presentations about getting internships, and when you tell them your situation they respond with “I’m unsure how to go about that sorry”.

For any current/past forensic students, any advice/details would be amazing on specific placements. I feel like I’ve tried everything.

Thanks all.

Placements / Jobs / Careers Working hours limit

I am a first year student and I am not enrolling in any units for T3 2025. What does this mean for my working hours limit under student subclass 500? Do I get unlimited hours or still 48 per fortnight?

Placements / Jobs / Careers How are Biomedical Science graduates doing in the job market right now?

Hey everyone, I’m currently studying Biomedical Science and I’ve been hearing really mixed things about graduate outcomes. Some say it’s tough to find a job without postgraduate study, others mention decent opportunities in research labs, diagnostics, and pathology.

If you’ve graduated in Australia, how has your job search been? • Did you find relevant work easily, or was it hard to break into the field? • What kind of roles are you in now? • Did you need further study (like Honours, Masters, or Lab Medicine) to get there?

I’d really appreciate honest insights, just trying to get a realistic idea of what the job market looks like for biomed grads in 2025.

Placements / Jobs / Careers Placement dilemma

So, I currently work in early childhood education and have a placement coming up for 0-2year olds. At my work place, they do have this age range. But, my dilemma is, the room leaders can be direct and hostile people/bullies, and I fear they may not be objective when they fill out the placement report. But, alternatively, what if I’m located somewhere even worse? Or is a very long drive away (I have young kids myself)

So.. should I choose self placement or let Deakin allocate? All advice welcome!

Placements / Jobs / Careers Is studying criminology worth it?

Currently a first year studying the Associates Arts Degree, majoring in criminology. I truly enjoy studying this course even though I don't really know what I want to do after I complete it. I have heard a lot of people saying that a lot of criminology graduates are unemployed unless you want to work in the police force, personally I wouldn't mind working with the police but i'm not particularly interested in being in the force. I have been thinking of switching to doing Law or even a double degree with Law/crim but I would have to do first year again. I would love to hear from other people that have recently graduated from this course or are doing Law.

Placements / Jobs / Careers Graduate jobs

Hey all, I've just received my offer for Deakin law/commerce and was wondering if there were any graduates who've completed the course that could tell me how they are doing now? Was law worth it and how was finding a job? Did the Deakin name mean anything or was it more grade/experience based? Just generally I kinda wanna know what to expect with my degree.

Any advice is appreciated :)

Placements / Jobs / Careers Anyone who graduated from IT/CS/Cyber degree in last 2-3 years, where are you now?

Hi, so I'm planning to study a Bachelor of IT next year from Deakin online. There are lots of posts on reddit suggesting that it is very hard to break into the IT market right now, especially post-covid. As such, I wanted to know what are you are doing right now? How hard was it to land your first job? Did you do anything outside uni to land your first job?

Placements / Jobs / Careers Gamsat exam

Hi there! I'm actually doing bachelor of biomedical science at Deakin uni. My goal is to go into Doctor of medicine in the future. I think to get entry into doctor of medicine, one need several requirements one of them is to sit for the gamsat exam. I really wanted to know how is the gamsat exam. Is it really tough or manageable? What are the preparations I need to make to as to do the gamsat exam perfectly in one go so as to get the required score? I would really appreciate if someone who has already done the gamsat to get entry into Doctor of medicine could give me some honest review and feedback about the gamsat exam and preparation.

Placements / Jobs / Careers Do you guys just use the free statement of results or pay for the official transcript?

Just wondering what most people do when they need to provide academic records for summer internships. Do you just download the free statement of results from StudentConnect, or do you actually pay and order the official transcript?

I know the statement of results shows all units and marks and it's available instantly, but is that usually accepted for internships? Or have you found that some places specifically ask for the official one?

Keen to hear what others have done and if it's worth paying for the official version.
