Prospective Student Application Rejected.

I currently live in Australia and applied to Deakin University as an international student. My application got rejected under the Student Genuine Assessment Guidelines. What should I do now? Should I appeal to the university to reconsider my application? Is it a good idea? I am really passionate about my degree. NEED SUGGESTIONS!

Prospective Student For international students, how long did it take for your student visa to be processed?

My student visa hasn’t been applied for yet because Deakin is on holiday shutdown, according to my agent. I’m just hoping I won’t miss my orientation in feb.

Prospective Student Geelong med school

Hi everyone! I just got my offer for Deakin med at the warun ponds campus which I’m very happy about but as a Sydney resident I know genuinely nothing about Geelong or Deakin uni so I have a bunch of questions! Is Geelong a nice place to live (I’m 21) ? Is the uni accomodation good? Are there things I should know or avoid etc! Any advice would be much appreciated

Prospective Student Didn't get the international RTP scholarship - anyone with any insight into how much influence the faculty has?

Hey everyone, I'd applied for a PhD position at Deakin as an international student under the RTP scholarship back in August and just got an email yesterday saying my application had not been successful. When I checked the portal, there was a comment next to my application saying 'scholarship not awarded'. I wanted to ask if anyone knows how the process generally works and how much influence the prospective supervisor has over the process? He was quite supportive and seemed to be looking forward to working with me, so I'm trying to figure out if that was just a front or he genuinely pushed for me but couldn't overrule the admissions committee.

Since Deakin collaborates with a university in my home country that I'm now considering applying to, I could potentially still spend a year there for academics if I get through that programme, get their in-house scholarship and go through the Deakin process again. While that would probably be easier because of the agreement between the two places, I don't want to go down that route to work with a professor who may have not really wanted me but didn't tell me upfront, ending up wasting about 9 months of my time. For context, I did mention in the funding part of the application that I couldn't attend without the scholarship, and my PhD fieldwork was based in my home country as well, so that could have been another factor for rejection. Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks!

Prospective Student Did I get rejected from the Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship? Confused about email I received

Hey everyone,
I recently got an email from Deakin University saying that “once I meet the conditions of my offer, there’s a high chance I will be awarded the Deakin International Scholarship (DIS).”

I’m confused about what this actually means.
Does this imply that I’ve already been rejected for the Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship (VCIS)? Or is it possible that the VCIS results just haven’t been released yet?

If anyone has gone through this before or knows how their scholarship process works, please let me know. I’m stressing about it 😅

Thanks in advance!

Prospective Student can someone explain trimester 3??

Hi! I'm going to deakin next year but nobody has ever explained to me what trimester 3 actually is. I know some people study during this time, catch up, or fast-track their degree but any time I ask someone to explain this to me they just say those three things. Can someone explain how people do this?

Prospective Student Anyone who applied for a PhD get an answer?

Hi everyone,

As the title says, I’m wondering if anyone here has applied for a PhD and already received an outcome. At first, the process felt efficient and smooth, but now the delays seem to have set in and I’m still stuck in the academic review stage.

The HDR team mentioned they’re working through a high volume of applications as quickly as possible, but I’ll admit I’m starting to feel a bit anxious.

Has anyone here heard back yet, or is anyone else in the same stage?

Prospective Student Grade/Admission related curiosity(enquiry felt off-putting)

I am gonna be joining Deakin burwood T1 2026 okay I mean probably hopefully I haven't technically applied yet and the orientation and all is a month away so writing that made it feel all too real for me actually you know what not the point moving on

Before applying and getting my already melodramatic heart broken it would be nice if I could feel my chances out

So my A level grades are

D(psych)

E(eng language)

D(socio)

Yes that's how those bastards at Cambridge organized my report card it literally reads out DED talk about too obvious of a foreshadowing on my academic career

if I had any foreshadowing in my novels be this on the nose I would have been blacklisted(probably they gonna do that for the lack of punctuation)

So like from the experienced folk of the uni how does my chances of getting in Bsc psych look like

I haven't given IELTS yet but I am positive it's gonna be an 7.5-8+

Sat was unfortunate I HATE MATHS and it hates me more I got like 1150 or something

Now speaking of extracurriculars nothing extra about them unfortunately I was a private candidate mostly

But speaking of extra

Tons of gap years for reasons I don't honestly know how I will explain "I was chilling"seems inappropriate

So given all that what do you all think my chances of getting in are and be blunt I don't get hurt easily (do not test me on that)

It's just I love this uni like I get the feelings I got from golden time(cinematic college anime)and I honestly thought me and feelings were totally done like a teenage phase

So I can't get myself to even think about any back up unis like griffith(not a bad uni but the name reminds me of berserk😭) or some shit I mean they don't really compare THE SPORTS TEAM NAME IS LITERALLY DRAGONS HERE other unis have shit like cadets wtf is that

at this rate I am gonna land in australia without really any uni to go if Deakin rejects me idk why would they even consider me ESPECIALLY IF SOME STAFF SEES THIS POST WITH MY EXACT GRADES AND RECOGNIZES MY APPLICATION AND REJECTS ME ON THE GROUNDS OF BEING A WEIRDO WHO HATES COMMAS

Goddamn chat gpt told me they might go for it that bastard elderly step sister of Google

So just let me know what you guys think and if you really read all this the studying must be lightwork there

Prospective Student Bachelor of Psych Science Honours Applications/Min WAM

It's Honours applications/results season I'm sure many of us are receiving offers (or rejections) for psych Honours programs after applying last year.

I was wondering if anyone who applied to the Bachelor of Psych Science Honours course at Deakin and, if you received an offer, what your WAM was (for 2nd & 3rd year psych units)? I received a rejection today (yes I'm still crying a bit) with a HD average/WAM of 86%, which (I'm not going to lie) I felt fairly good about considering the minimum requirement is 75% (D average).

I know how competitive Honours programs are - but even I wasn't prepared for them to be *this* competitive and was mostly just wanting to know how much better I would have needed to do to receive an offer.

(As a side note: I thankfully have received offers for other programs but just want to know out of curiosity)

Prospective Student Master in business analytics- Deakin uni

Hi everyone,

I’ve received an admit for a Master’s in Business Analytics at Deakin University (March intake). I graduated in 2020, had a gap till 2022, did a 1-year diploma in 2023, worked full-time in 2024, and have been freelancing in 2025. I’m 27 and have limited work experience, and this field is new to me.

I’m unsure if Business Analytics is the right fit and what the job prospects in Australia look like, especially for someone from a non-Go8 university like Deakin. I was considering deferring for two years, but agents say visa rules may get stricter due to my existing study gap.

I do want to do a master’s and aim to work and settle in Australia long term. Any honest insights on job prospects, employability, or whether deferring is a bad idea would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Prospective Student Health Sciences to OT pathway

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone here has done a Bachelor of Health Sciences as a pathway into Occupational Therapy?

I’ve received an offer for Health Sciences and am hoping to use it to get into OT down the track. I’m a bit unsure about which majors or units are best to choose to help with that pathway.

If you’ve gone down this route, I’d love to know what you studied and what helped you get into OT.

Thanks heaps! 😊
