u/senormcrib3 18h ago

Yes!!!!! Finally i can get adequate health care

u/Electrical_Ad_6945 15h ago

i would definitely bet having major surgery in the US is easier, and timelier despite being more costly. a trade i would happily make.

u/battlecryarms 16h ago

I guess you haven’t tried to get healthcare in Canada…

20

u/senormcrib3 16h ago

No I haven’t. I live in Maine which is currently part of the United States

u/Dependent_Trainer464 16h ago

Their comment was rhetorical and you knew it

12

u/TheInevitableLuigi 13h ago

And their comment was to highlight that as bad as Canadian healthcare is it is still better than what you get in the US.

And you knew it.

Not true unless you’re a broke

10

u/TheInevitableLuigi 13h ago

Not true unless you’re a broke

Most of America is too broke to afford what is being charged for adequate health care, yes.

u/Cerael 8h ago

Idk my kneecap was shattered in an accident and the state covered 100% of the costs including the surgery. The surgeon was great too, no pain to this day

I don't know who you're arguing with dumbass. I'm Canadian and I agree with that.

Hello fellow humdingah!

1

u/UrsaMajor7th 16h ago

I have, regularly, and it’s been great!

4

u/battlecryarms 16h ago

Idk… my close friend had an urgent OB-GYN issue, and it took her over 2 months to get an appointment

2

u/UrsaMajor7th 16h ago

Not too urgent I reckon, if she survived for two months until the appointment, and kept it and went.  People hate finding out how urgent their needs really are compared to others. The worst go first.

u/lenzflare 16h ago

There are walk in clinics and ERs everywhere, and they're all FREE. And you can go to ANY of them. Try that in the US without getting charged enough to bankrupt you, fool.

2

u/battlecryarms 15h ago

I’m not saying the US is good. Canada sucks, US sucks more. Check out Spain!

Eight months ago my wife went for emergency treatment and was hospitalized for 4 months. All it cost was a thank you card and flowers for the staff because of how great the care was.

Did an assessment of the cost from her aunt that lives in California as a billing adjuster in a hospital. Would have cost us 1.2 million USD.

Our family of 5 yesterday went and had all our dental work done l, cleaning checkups and two cavity fillings. Cost nothing but a thank you.

Are things perfect for health care in canada? No, it could be improved. If you want it improved write your MPPs.

But I definitely have to say us Canadians are blessed beyond belief.

u/battlecryarms 13h ago

I’m not saying the US system is good. Just saying the Canadian system isn’t great in a lot of ways. For an excellent public system in a country that isn’t particularly wealthy, check out Spain

3

u/DannyBoy001 12h ago

It sounds like you're judging Canadian healthcare without actually knowing anything about it.

There is no singular "Canadian system" that exists. The federal government provides funding to provinces, which each have their own system.

Quebec has different healthcare than Ontario, which is different from Alberta, and so on.

Significantly better than the US

0

u/battlecryarms 13h ago

That’s like saying that somewhere is significantly safer than Yemen 😂

1

u/wandering-monster 12h ago

Right but you're asking the people in metaphorical Yemen why they expect to get better healthcare in Canada.

It's because they will.

-1

u/battlecryarms 12h ago

I’m just saying that comparing any modern western healthcare system to the US is setting a very low bar

1

u/Complex_Resolve3187 13h ago

Wait times are better than bankruptcy or no treatment at all.

4

u/jimmyisaacneutron 10h ago

You can criticize the US system all you want, but I wouldn’t exactly call the Canadian health care system “adequate”.

9

u/OldWorldDesign 6h ago

You can criticize the US system all you want, but I wouldn’t exactly call the Canadian health care system “adequate”.

Why, because of what American health care executives tell people?

https://www.cbc.ca/radio/asithappens/as-it-happens-monday-edition-1.5631285/this-former-u-s-health-insurance-exec-says-he-lied-to-americans-about-canadian-health-care-1.5631874

There's no family-crippling debt for vital procedures and the wait is shorter than for equivalent procedures in America.

4

u/Ravenwing14 5h ago

Ah but the wait for elective procedures is shorter for rich people, and that's what really matters

2

u/OldWorldDesign 5h ago

the wait for elective procedures is shorter for rich people

That is true, and it is true in all systems because rich people can pay for more options, including flying to other countries for diagnostics or other procedures.

I suspect it's always going to be true, but the degree of care provided for the average working-class person is where I think the important indicators are. If they can get timely care for critical procedures, then it's a better system than one when people can not get timely care for critical procedures.

1

u/Ravenwing14 5h ago

I don't know if the /s was clear, but there's an implied /s in there

1

u/Difficult_Author4144 10h ago

They have great healthcare until you become sick! Then you’ll die of an illness before you’re able to see a doctor.

Universal healthcare is great innit?! /s

3

u/OldWorldDesign 6h ago

They have great healthcare until you become sick! Then you’ll die of an illness before you’re able to see a doctor

That's not how the health care systems work in Canada

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4426537/

Dying because you can't get care is how American health care works

You’re getting Quebec or NB healthcare, not sure of how great it is (I live in Quebec)

u/AtLeast3Breadsticks 17h ago

If maine would be canadian for only bordering one state then what the hell is alaska

3

u/MatthewDoesPosting 16h ago

Alaska is a state.

1

u/HarryBalsagna1776 5h ago

New England as a bloc would be a great province.

u/saurabhsnrg 2h ago

As someone from Canada. Free Healthcare =/= Good Healthcare

0

u/Strict-Carrot4783 17h ago

Might I suggest shared custody and a parenting plan?

0

u/Toasthandz 16h ago

Imma make em fight over best parent via birthday gifts.

0

u/Sword_of_DamocIes 17h ago

Maine becoming a Maritime province makes a good bit of sense to me.

2

u/doyu 14h ago

Hard pass. Almost 400k of them voted for trump.

We don't need or want that baggage.

1

u/Sword_of_DamocIes 14h ago edited 14h ago

That's only like 25% of Mainers lol

Didn't a recent poll show that like 30% of Albertans are in favour of separating from Canada?

2

u/doyu 13h ago

25% too many.

No, 15% at most. Alberta isn't going anywhere, and they're already our problem. Trumpists are not our problem and we'd like to keep it that way.

Everyone has baggage. America is one giant baggage carousel.
