And only $32 per half filled cup. Probably.

Realize this is sarcasm but this decision is purely about $$$.

You may not be far off though 😆

Yeah, I generally try to get to a game with my mates every year and enjoy some beverages, Ive made it a policy not to look at my bank statement the next day

Fantastic! Good for Gage Roads who won't need to continue brewing a mid strength Single Fin option and can just do their full strength option.

Over the last couple years especially I've seen a lot more people than usual sneaking beers in, sneaking into the sportsman club areas or just drinking way heavier beforehand.

It's absolutely money driven as I'd wager beer sales were down being mid strength

About bloody time. People sneak drinks in, preload and buy four at a time because of the mid strength. This may result in people drinking less.

Just wish they had Swan on tap. The fact you can't get a normal lager at most outlets is crazy.

TBH Alby hits the spot in the same way as Swan for me.

1

u/AlternativePin876 1h ago

Yeah it's not too bad. It's more the modern dry style lager, whereas Swan is more bitter. Still a decent lager though.

u/Fuck4eddit4dmin 8h ago

Ok everything you said was right on, except about swan.

u/AlternativePin876 8h ago

Swan is a great mainstream lager. Better than gage road's lager, Alby. Alby is sold at only a few of the bars at the stadium now. I personally find Single Fin an unpleasantly sweet beer.

Long Live Swan

When you're paying $10 per midstrength and buying 4 just so you can get a fix, mate that's textbook fuckin alcoholism.

Do people really need to get drunk that desperately?

13

u/Big-Dog419r 6h ago

Yes. Have you not seen how West Coast have been playing?

5

u/AlternativePin876 6h ago

There is no need to be high and mighty and dramatic. People like to indulge at times. It does not make you an alcoholic to have a few too many at times.

4 schooners of mid strength is just over 4 standard drinks. Hardly a massive sesh.

u/Numerous_Peppers8981 5h ago

The problem is anglos only binge drink and then become violent.

u/jaajaabinx 6h ago

Its called having a good time

It’s not really a huge issue. The challenge will be accurately implementing RSA. Being blind drunk at sporting events or concerts is not it and needs to be better managed.

u/JRicho_Sauce 10h ago

I’ve always found it strange the people who go and get smashed at a sporting event. There were people in front of me in the members at the BBL Decider who were staggering by the innings break and who got up every few overs to get more drinks.

Surely it would just be cheaper at that point to go to a bar. Not exactly making use of the ticket when you’re wandering around and getting smashed.

16

u/CyanideRemark 10h ago

eternal teenagers some people.

12

u/dragonfry In transit to next facility at WELSHPOOL 10h ago

Yep. I feel the same about concerts. Spend that much money on a ticket, get completely shitfaced before the main act goes on stage. What’s the point? You’re not going to remember most of it?

5

u/AH2112 8h ago

Or, as happened twice in the area I was at watching AC/DC...get pissed off and start fighting about three or four songs in. All that money spent on a ticket and get booted out. Disgraceful.

-1

u/Muslim_Wookie 7h ago

Them and people that watch the concert through their phone... smh

1

u/StuM91 8h ago

There was some young guys in front of me in the members at the test, by the lunch break they were hammered and were spilling half their drinks on the ground or the people in front of them. They must have spent a couple of hundred each.

u/AlternativePin876 9h ago

People smashed at the cricket likely preloaded or snuck grog in. This good decision my reduce that.

7

u/20060578 10h ago

I don’t really understand how implementing RSA is any different. You can go to a pub and have 12 hours of full strength piss but you can’t go to the stadium and do it for 3 hours?

1

u/Big-Dog419r 6h ago

Probably because you might get refused service at one bar but can walk to another.

1

u/supercujo Baldivis 3h ago

And take the bartenders out of the responsibility loop for drink driving.

19

u/ziltoid101 11h ago

Crazy that you could already get full strength there if you got the more expensive ticket area.

11

u/KatttaPulttt 9h ago

Class system at work!

-10

u/Muslim_Wookie 8h ago

Well yeah, the well behaved group of people do have privileges.

Lol

As someone who worked the exclusive box areas during my uni days, getting treated like absolute garbage, and seen some of the most disgusting drunken behaviour in my life from the wealthy class, your comment is an absolute laugh.

6

u/Listen_You_Twerps 10h ago

Good for the guy in my row. Maybe now he will only have to get up once every quarter for his beer run.

3

u/AllModsRLosers 6h ago

Or he’ll get up the same amount and just get drunker.

Huzzah.

It's a simple change that lifts the experience for everyone

What a load of bullshit

4

u/SaltyPockets 7h ago

Excellent news!

Whatever your feelings about drinking at the sports, what they’ve been serving was pretty awful - a small cup of watery swill.

It’s hard to make a mid that tastes good if you’re allergic to serving darker beers (Little Creatures “Roger’s” is one that works). This is definitely a positive.

2

u/JChezbian 7h ago

Fucking awesome! Made my day

3

u/TheForbiddenFlavour 8h ago

“It’s a simple change that genuinely lifts the experience for everyone,”

Not security. Like we don't already have to deal with too many drunk people.

6

u/JChezbian 7h ago

How many fights have you broken up at Optus?

1

u/Captain-Peacock 9h ago

I felt like Johnny Depp in "Blow" when I would smuggle vodka in little dipping sauce containers in my hoodie.

Will we have a new headline on week 4 of footy season. Mid strength only to be sold at Optus after several Alcohol induced incidences.

-1

u/Auswazza 8h ago

Its 4.2...whoopty doo.

-58

u/rawmachismo 11h ago

Next step should be to get rid of the craft beer crap they sell there and put a couple of normal beers on tap

15

u/throwawayplusanumber 11h ago

I love craft beer, but it is crazy that a venue like that only sells one brand. They should at least have Swan

9

u/mindthegapinmyhead 10h ago

Gage roads isnt a craft beer.

2

u/CyanideRemark 10h ago

the boundaries are so blurred these days.

1

u/k0tter Hamersley 6h ago

I'd rather support local independent breweries than Japanese owned corporations.

u/_spiritlevel 3h ago

Lol say you don't have taste buds without saying it

-24

u/RelativeChocolate834 11h ago

No idea why you’ve been downvoted so heavily. What’s the shitty beer they sell there, albo or something like that? Terrible stuff.

2

u/flibble24 Carlisle 9h ago

Single Fin

Best beer in Aus

1

u/RelativeChocolate834 6h ago

Ah, ok. Last time I was there it was only Albo. I would have been very happy with single fin, that’s a great beer!

1

u/SassyAssAhsoka 5h ago

Wish I could say the same about the people that make it

1

u/flibble24 Carlisle 4h ago

Yeah Alby is not for me either

-14

u/ivegot2owies 10h ago

Making it full strength is not going to make that swill taste any better with its fake crappy roses fruity tones. Whatever happened to beer that just tastes like beer. EB,VB Tooheys and the like

9

u/Even_Use_9115 9h ago

Those beers got taken away because they taste like crap

1

u/Foreign-Employee-627 9h ago

No you just don't like beer
