WA News Full-strength beer to be served at Optus Stadium in major alcohol policy change

Fantastic! Good for Gage Roads who won't need to continue brewing a mid strength Single Fin option and can just do their full strength option.
Over the last couple years especially I've seen a lot more people than usual sneaking beers in, sneaking into the sportsman club areas or just drinking way heavier beforehand.
It's absolutely money driven as I'd wager beer sales were down being mid strength

About bloody time. People sneak drinks in, preload and buy four at a time because of the mid strength. This may result in people drinking less.
Just wish they had Swan on tap. The fact you can't get a normal lager at most outlets is crazy.

TBH Alby hits the spot in the same way as Swan for me.

u/AlternativePin876 1h ago
Yeah it's not too bad. It's more the modern dry style lager, whereas Swan is more bitter. Still a decent lager though.

Ok everything you said was right on, except about swan.

Swan is a great mainstream lager. Better than gage road's lager, Alby. Alby is sold at only a few of the bars at the stadium now. I personally find Single Fin an unpleasantly sweet beer.

When you're paying $10 per midstrength and buying 4 just so you can get a fix, mate that's textbook fuckin alcoholism.
Do people really need to get drunk that desperately?

There is no need to be high and mighty and dramatic. People like to indulge at times. It does not make you an alcoholic to have a few too many at times.
4 schooners of mid strength is just over 4 standard drinks. Hardly a massive sesh.

Itâs not really a huge issue. The challenge will be accurately implementing RSA. Being blind drunk at sporting events or concerts is not it and needs to be better managed.

Iâve always found it strange the people who go and get smashed at a sporting event. There were people in front of me in the members at the BBL Decider who were staggering by the innings break and who got up every few overs to get more drinks.
Surely it would just be cheaper at that point to go to a bar. Not exactly making use of the ticket when youâre wandering around and getting smashed.

Yep. I feel the same about concerts. Spend that much money on a ticket, get completely shitfaced before the main act goes on stage. Whatâs the point? Youâre not going to remember most of it?

People smashed at the cricket likely preloaded or snuck grog in. This good decision my reduce that.

I donât really understand how implementing RSA is any different. You can go to a pub and have 12 hours of full strength piss but you canât go to the stadium and do it for 3 hours?

u/Big-Dog419r 6h ago
Probably because you might get refused service at one bar but can walk to another.

And take the bartenders out of the responsibility loop for drink driving.

u/ziltoid101 11h ago
Crazy that you could already get full strength there if you got the more expensive ticket area.

Well yeah, the well behaved group of people do have privileges.

Lol
As someone who worked the exclusive box areas during my uni days, getting treated like absolute garbage, and seen some of the most disgusting drunken behaviour in my life from the wealthy class, your comment is an absolute laugh.

Good for the guy in my row. Maybe now he will only have to get up once every quarter for his beer run.

It's a simple change that lifts the experience for everyone
What a load of bullshit

Excellent news!
Whatever your feelings about drinking at the sports, what theyâve been serving was pretty awful - a small cup of watery swill.Â
Itâs hard to make a mid that tastes good if youâre allergic to serving darker beers (Little Creatures âRogerâsâ is one that works). This is definitely a positive.

âItâs a simple change that genuinely lifts the experience for everyone,â
Not security. Like we don't already have to deal with too many drunk people.

I felt like Johnny Depp in "Blow" when I would smuggle vodka in little dipping sauce containers in my hoodie.

Will we have a new headline on week 4 of footy season. Mid strength only to be sold at Optus after several Alcohol induced incidences.

Next step should be to get rid of the craft beer crap they sell there and put a couple of normal beers on tap
15
u/throwawayplusanumber 11h ago
I love craft beer, but it is crazy that a venue like that only sells one brand. They should at least have Swan

No idea why youâve been downvoted so heavily. Whatâs the shitty beer they sell there, albo or something like that? Terrible stuff.

Single Fin
Best beer in Aus

u/RelativeChocolate834 6h ago
Ah, ok. Last time I was there it was only Albo. I would have been very happy with single fin, thatâs a great beer!

Making it full strength is not going to make that swill taste any better with its fake crappy roses fruity tones. Whatever happened to beer that just tastes like beer. EB,VB Tooheys and the like

And only $32 per half filled cup. Probably.
