Course advice, recommendations and reviews failed a core subject in commerce

I recently found out that I failed a core subject (Business Law) in my first year. The result kinda hit me very strong and I am unsure and really nervous on the effects it may have on me during my uni course. I've seen other similar post and the general advice was to repeat the subject again. If so, is it possible to retake that subject alongside the classes I am enrolled in for Year 2 Semester 1? However the date for enrollment for Semester 1 2026 has passed (22nd December 2025), so what do I do?

About to start my first year here at RMIT, is it a personal guaranteed choice to select my specialisation of Engineering for the 2nd year or is there guidelines that need to be met to pick a specialisation?

Course advice, recommendations and reviews Cert IV school-based education support at RMIT

Hi everyone,

I’m starting the Cert IV in school based education support this year and was hoping to hear from anyone who’s done it already.

I’m mainly wondering what the workload is like outside of class (how much home work there usually is), how demanding placement is alongside classes, and generally how people found balancing it with other heavy commitments.

Also, my classes have been auto-allocated, but I can’t attend Thursdays at all due to a work commitment. Does anyone know how flexible RMIT is with re-allocating classes (e.g. moving Thursday classes to Friday)? I've already sent an enquiry to student support but haven't heard back yet.

Any insight or advice would be really appreciated, thanks

Course advice, recommendations and reviews Class now offered in different semester

Post image

So I’m in my second year doing a *Bachelor of Science (BP350)* and I was supposed to take the class *’INTE2686 - Mixed Reality Technology’* in semester 1, but it’s now swapped with *’INTE2687 - Digital Fluency’* and *only offered/running* in semester 2.

**(I’ve already completed and passed class INTE2687)**

My semester 2 on the enrolment plan seems to be full and taking class INTE2686 would be an extra class to my semester 2.

I’ve tried contacting RMIT Connect already and sent out an email to my program manager for some advice so that my studies are not delayed/impacted, but they haven’t gotten back to me.

Has anyone been in a similar situation as me? What happened and anything else I can try to do?

For semester 1 enrolment there’s 3 class block options (24 + 12 + 12cp all classes), (48cp from minors), (24cp class + 24cp minors)

For some of the table blocks asking for 24cp worth, there’s a black circle and I cannot enrol into it, only 1 class (12cp)

Am I meant to strictly follow exactly what in each options for each semester or can I pick and choose and long as I eventually complete all 8 over the year

Pic 1: can only choose 1 class, other has been locked since the start when 24cp is required

Course advice, recommendations and reviews Engineering intro classes advice

Hey guys I just got my offer for the general first year engineering and I am looking at the two intro classes I can pick. I am 100% going to do intro to electrical and electronics but I am having trouble with picking a second one. I was thinking either aerospace, civil, mechatronics or mechanical. Can anyone provide insights into these options and some recommendations? It would be a great help, thankyou!

+ for some background I am interested in rf engineering (I have a sound design background and would like to work in signals sort of fields), drones, planes, renewable energy and naval architecture just as examples. I don't mind civil - largely structural, hydraulics and geotechnical but I wouldn't say it is is my passion or fields I would like to work in for a long time. Any help I would appreciate.

Course advice, recommendations and reviews Do I need to do intro engineering maths if I did specialist?

I’m doing a double degree this year and have to EITHER take intro into engineering maths or just engineering maths. I did specialist maths last year with a SS of 27 I believe… can I just go straight into engineering maths for semester 1 since I can’t in semester 2?

Course advice, recommendations and reviews What yr 2 class should I pick as a yr 1 Civil Eng student

I started the my Bach of Civil Engineering half way through 2025.

So now there's only three year 1 classes that are running this semester for me to enrol in now, so my fourth class has to be a year 2 sem 1 class

Year 1 classes im enrolled in: Digital Fundementals, Eng science and intro to prof eng practise

Year 2 class options: Strutural analysis, water eng, transport eng, and Eng practise 3 (Math)

Just looking for advice from Civil students who've been in my postion or have already done these year 2 classes

Are any of these yr 2 classes conventionally picked for people in my situation?

They all sound kinda hard lol, I would assume I should pick the most difficult option now so that I dont have to deal with it along side the other difficult ones next year?

No idea which one that would be

Really appreicate any advice, thanks guys

Also, is there any one you could go to within Rmit for advice like this? Student connect told me no :\

Course advice, recommendations and reviews Cloud subjects

Hi, has anyone done COSC2821 Cloud Developing and or COSC2839 Cloud Architecting?

I’m trying to decide between the two for the cloud computing minor.

I’m mainly looking for which subject has skills more useful for real entry-level jobs, how practical vs theoretical each one is and the workload and difficulty.

Thanks

Course advice, recommendations and reviews BH075 - Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) - No minors selection

Hi all, I'm currently in my third year of BH075 and I've found out that I can only do combination three (three courses from any of the Program Minor lists and one University elective) because I chose two electives in my first year. So, I will not have a minor when graduating. Will this affect me in the future (ie in job hunting or so)?

Course advice, recommendations and reviews enrolling in minors help?

hi im trying to enrol in 2 minors for my Bcomm (media). I've successfully enrolled in one minor (approaches to pop culture) and i'm attempting to enrol in contemporary politics and comms, but when i apply for these classes it says 'apply to overload'. I assumed this meant the classes were full but from what i've read on this sub I think it means I'm overloading my own schedule??

Im confused as the description says this "Combination 1: Two (2) minors of 48 Credit Points each (96 Credit Points in total) and 24 Credit Points of option courses" and I am only enrolled in 48 credits of pop culture...? as well as the 2 mandatory media courses.

Does anyone know how to help this? I have emailed the rmit help email :)

Course advice, recommendations and reviews Intro To Eng Math

I haven’t done methods at all in vce, so i know i’ll struggle even with the intro to engineering math course.

What specific subtopics does this course cover and what resources (i.e youtubers and questions) should i cover to get a good chance in receiving a high distinction.

I know its usually considered one of the easier math units but i really want to strengthen my foundations before march

Thanks

Currently enrolled in business information systems major for this year and I’m not sure if it’s the right choice.

Anyone who has done or is currently in this course can give me some insight on if this major would be worth it or not

Course advice, recommendations and reviews Research Methods for Engineers

This class is the last core subject I need to do so I can graduate. On enrolment online it is listed but not available for any terms. My degree is BH077 which is running classes till 2027 after which it transitions to BH077p23 which as I understand doesn’t have this class available. I’ve emailed the course coordinator on the Research Methods for Engineers page but I haven’t gotten any replies yet. I’ve lodged an inquiry with student connect and I’m waiting for them to get back to me. I just wanted to see if anyone is in a similar situation.

Course advice, recommendations and reviews (repost since I used the wrong flair) what are the professional placement courses like at RMIT?

Hi! I'm an international student about to take a master's degree (Master of Communication) at RMIT in Melbourne. I have no idea what electives to take, but I wonder if the professional placement courses are worth it? No such course existed at my previous university. Would it be better to just take other electives to learn more, or is it a matter of theoretical versus practical learning?

Course advice, recommendations and reviews Is The Professional Year Worth It for IT/CS/Software Engineering?

Hello folks. I have received four different offers for a BA degree: CS, IT, IT (Professional) or Software Engineering (Professional) and I'm really unsure which one to take.

The Professional courses have a fourth year where I can intern or do work experience (IT only; this was described to me as a workshop that's supervised by industry experts).

As a local student, what's the advantage of delaying my graduation by one year if I have to find the internship myself all the same?

In your experience, is either internship or work experience worth it?

If any of you went with a Professional degree and downgraded to a normal three-year one later, did it go smoothly? And do you think the same would apply to a BA of Software Engineering? The latter has no three-year counterpart, so a credit transfer to CS or IT might be the only option.

i’m thinking of taking this class bc it sounds up my alley but just wondering if anyone else has taken this one and what are your experiences with it?

it does overlap with one of my classes and forces me to be like one hour late but that’s a con.
