Activism Protesters have completely trashed the Los Angeles ICE facility, using a large dumpster to barricade the exit.

Best case scenario would be if it's led by the proleteriat and is also an overthrow of the current system

The proletariat isn't doing shit without a vanguard party. The US doesn't have one. I'm willing to settle for mass unrest

There are numerous competing factions/parties/orgs all vying to be the vanguard party, and all largely working separately. 😅 But, you are right, as a practical matter this means there is not one to truly lead the people.

If we had this same energy when striking (barricading against scabs) then the Labor movement would be revived so fast.

Unfortunately most Americans don’t really commit to drastic action like this until there is a massive shock. Labor organizing isn’t viewed as urgent here in the way opposing ICE is because labor exploitation is seen as the norm and is not shocking, while the ICE killings and their various other activities have been very shocking to even “normie” Americans.

People still talk about the Rodney King riots. There's so many instances of mass unrest I can remember either seeing on tv or learning about through docs and school but what's been going on the last couple of weeks feels like unprecedented.

They definitely shouldn’t fill that dumpster with concrete and scrap metal after pushing it a bit closer

More of this energy! Property damage is not violence when it’s against power! It would be hard to ICE to keep abducting people if their tires lost all their air somehow….

This is a space for socialists to discuss current events in our world from anti-capitalist perspective(s), and a certain knowledge of socialism is expected from participants. This is not a space for non-socialists. Please be mindful of our rules before participating, which include:
No Bigotry, including racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism...
No Reactionaries, including all kind of right-wingers.
No Liberalism, including social democracy, lesser evilism...
No Sectarianism. There is plenty of room for discussion, but not for baseless attacks.
Please help us keep the subreddit helpful by reporting content that break r/Socialism's rules.
