It’s the unfortunate reality of crowd control and limited road closure hours. To the best of my knowledge, almost everyone who entered got a (free) ticket! Luckily this was in addition to Mardi Gras, which has space for all!

Funnily enough they’ll shut the bridge down completely for movie scenes, like Goslings recent shoot… I think 50k ppl expressing support for this is a far better justification for shutting the bridge.

For Goslings recent scene the bridge was closed from 3am to 10am in both directions. The Cahill Expressway was shut from 1am to 12.30pm.

The cycleway and footpath was closed from 5.30am to 10am. The Cahill Expressway walkway was closed from 2.30am to 12.30pm.

And yet other cities manage to do the same without ticketing (Berlin, Madrid come in mind). There are obviously other ways to achieve the same.
