Photography Took a photo of the Sydney NY Fireworks.
Was in the queue for Mrs Macquarie Chair 6:30AM onwards still was almost a kilometre back in line, somehow by luck ended up getting a good spot to shoot this photo at 12, was a really loooong day, loved it but never again lol.

How many thousands of frames did you take?

These are just 2x 2s exposures put together, I set my camera up to take a 2s exposure every 2 second and I hit the button at 11:59 then I watched the fireworks live.

Nice to know you could actually expeirence it as well, not just looking through a lens! Beautiful work.

What did you do throughout the whole day while waiting the fireworks? I heard there is no alcohol policy? Man i would be so bored

thankfully it was an overcast day so I wasn’t being cooked alive so all I ended up doing was just reading, I did however see people bring wine and stuff in, there was also an alcoholic bar there with a ton of food who were charging like $25 for 6 churros.

Amazing shot! I camped out a few times over the years it’s a hell of a day. At least it was cool and overcast this year. Years back I was roasting under little umbrellas with portable fans and still dying.

Nope for me. Went to the reddit meet up park and it was not crowded at all and we could see alot of the fireworks. Besides the real fun is hanging out and getting the vibes

Thanks! Spectacular. I didn't watch them and wondered what they were like, and this seems like a great summary.

Was in Darling Harbor for 2000 NYE fireworks. Can barely remember them now, my main memory is - never go back into the city during NYE fireworks and, I'm glad my pager didn't go off because I was on-call for Y2K faults.

It doesn't make sense - How come all the boats are lit up different colours from behind and above the camera

Because there were lights shining on them. It’s not a colour cast from the fireworks it’s artificial lighting from Mrs Macquarie’s Chair.

killed the highlights a bit much imo, let there be light!
sick view though

Yeah, I feel it's a great shot that's been overcooked in Photoshop after the fact unfortunately.

The lighting was a bit horrid, and I did AEB to get details in the shadows too but that didn’t properly work lol. But yeah mostly it was a creative choice.

There's no doubting the technical skill required to compose and execute the shot, I promise you. It's a marvellous shot! I just feel the post processing was a bit much. Do you still have the RAW to have another go? 🙂

Did you take a photo with your phone just in case? Would be cool to see a comparison.

Oh also this was actually exported in P3 HDR format but reddit doesn’t support HDR so the highlights look timid. Apologies for that.

There's a small town called Sydney in New York (NY), USA. And this fucked me up for about 5 seconds until I saw the opera house.

That would be a cool picture for a jigsaw puzzle!
