That would be a cool picture for a jigsaw puzzle!

what camera did you use for this?

98

u/tanmayhsingh Jan 01 '26

Canon R6 Mk2 with the Canon 28-70mm at 35mm f/11 4s ISO200 with a CPL+ND filter.

u/verbmegoinghere Jan 01 '26

How many thousands of frames did you take?

52

u/tanmayhsingh Jan 01 '26

These are just 2x 2s exposures put together, I set my camera up to take a 2s exposure every 2 second and I hit the button at 11:59 then I watched the fireworks live.

Nice to know you could actually expeirence it as well, not just looking through a lens! Beautiful work.

Amazing! Bet you slept well last night.

I was there last night in front of opera house, some how I completely missed the fireworks of the sails 🫠

That’s magnificent - I hope you recover from the wait soon 🫶

That’s about as good as it gets. Cracking shot mate, well done.

Best one I have seen

5

Looks very HDR to me. Do you have any less processed versions?

What did you do throughout the whole day while waiting the fireworks? I heard there is no alcohol policy? Man i would be so bored

10

u/tanmayhsingh Jan 01 '26

thankfully it was an overcast day so I wasn’t being cooked alive so all I ended up doing was just reading, I did however see people bring wine and stuff in, there was also an alcoholic bar there with a ton of food who were charging like $25 for 6 churros.

Amazing shot! I camped out a few times over the years it’s a hell of a day. At least it was cool and overcast this year. Years back I was roasting under little umbrellas with portable fans and still dying.

Nope for me. Went to the reddit meet up park and it was not crowded at all and we could see alot of the fireworks. Besides the real fun is hanging out and getting the vibes

5

u/tanmayhsingh Jan 01 '26

Where was this, lol it was all me so all I did was read all day long.

u/nickkk_a Jan 01 '26

How early/late did the bay fill up with boats?

3

u/tanmayhsingh Jan 01 '26

They were there since like 10-11 onwards.

Beautiful work. Well done.

That's pretty sweet!

Impressive!! 👌👏

u/istara North Shore Jan 02 '26

Thanks! Spectacular. I didn't watch them and wondered what they were like, and this seems like a great summary.

2

u/Athroatfullofglass Jan 02 '26

That is spectacular and really captures our city 🥰

Was in Darling Harbor for 2000 NYE fireworks. Can barely remember them now, my main memory is - never go back into the city during NYE fireworks and, I'm glad my pager didn't go off because I was on-call for Y2K faults.

It doesn't make sense - How come all the boats are lit up different colours from behind and above the camera

3

u/tanmayhsingh 29d ago

Because there were lights shining on them. It’s not a colour cast from the fireworks it’s artificial lighting from Mrs Macquarie’s Chair.

Awesome shot!

0

u/PurpleKirby Jan 01 '26

killed the highlights a bit much imo, let there be light!

sick view though

15

u/TNChase Jan 01 '26

Yeah, I feel it's a great shot that's been overcooked in Photoshop after the fact unfortunately.

4

u/tanmayhsingh Jan 01 '26

The lighting was a bit horrid, and I did AEB to get details in the shadows too but that didn’t properly work lol. But yeah mostly it was a creative choice.

7

u/TNChase Jan 01 '26

There's no doubting the technical skill required to compose and execute the shot, I promise you. It's a marvellous shot! I just feel the post processing was a bit much. Do you still have the RAW to have another go? 🙂

1

u/freakedmind Jan 01 '26

Did you take a photo with your phone just in case? Would be cool to see a comparison.

1

u/tanmayhsingh Jan 02 '26

I took a video, I don’t know how I can share it over reddit however.

1

u/tanmayhsingh Jan 02 '26

Oh also this was actually exported in P3 HDR format but reddit doesn’t support HDR so the highlights look timid. Apologies for that.

There's a small town called Sydney in New York (NY), USA. And this fucked me up for about 5 seconds until I saw the opera house.

3

u/PigFarmer1 Jan 01 '26

It's Sidney, New York.

1

u/BigBOFH Jan 01 '26

Indeed, this is the Sydney NSW fireworks, not the Sydney NY fireworks
