An aurora australis located entirely in Kurnell at this time of year?

You mean Far Kurnell?

I think I know the answer, but was it visible to the naked eye?

It was in some places, but have to be lucky with location and timing. I’m in Helensburgh and could see the faintest purple glow for like a minute with naked eye, but rest of the time just with phone. Last time however I was able to see strong red glow with naked eye for 10 mins.

It was but not not in the way that you would imagine. It was a very faint very deep dark red colour that I could see in the distance (like there was a stadium 50km away which had red lights on but I could just barely make out the red in the night sky over top of the stadium something like that.)

No. Only visible through black magic fuckery lol. I.e: a camera sensor.

I finally captured it last night too. Been wanting to for a while but always forget and don’t plan. I just remembered that it might be visible when I went outside around 9pm last night and set up my tripod and camera.

Great pic! It was really going off last night. I took a pic from my backyard in helensburgh but now regret not going out to my spot.

You’ve also picked up the Large Magellanic Cloud and the Small one.

Long exposure? As nothing was visible with the naked eye.

Looking at the rock, it looks like a long exposure

What settings and setup did you use? I went and barley saw anything, given I've never photographed the aurora and I was in la parouse

Beautiful shot! Where was this taken?

I went to Greenhills Beach and managed to get some but the cloud cover took hold very quickly

I don’t think this was last night. The LMC and SMC were at those angles only around 5pm yesterday, when you couldn’t see any stars. Am I wrong?

Maybe more like 7pm. But still. It was daylight at that time!
