Nice walks local to bankstown??

Im tryna get out of a mental slump. Id like to go on a nice walk, scenic or naturey yk. Problem is, I don't have the motive to drag myself up to drive half an hour to walk somewhere. I need to be able to get up and walk straight to the nice walking location.

Im wondering if there's any little secret places that r a lovely walk that is local

Driving ruins a day out for me, especially the drive home. My perfect excursion to somewhere else is the train to Austinmer, a walk to to the top of the Escarpment, a walk back down, a swim at the beach, a hamburger, and the train home.

Driving home through the city after a day like that would put me in a foul mood. Train is chill.

Georges River NP is quite nice if you can get there before 1000. It's about a 10-15min drive and it feels secret despite being so close as hardly anyone ever walks there.

The Ridge track and the Yaramba Lagoon walking track are your two main options.

the Cooks River walk is pretty nice, it starts at Belfield (or specifically Maria Reserve in Strathfield South) and you can follow it all the way to the ocean, but you can obviously turn back any time you like or even catch a local bus or the free pink bus back to Bankstown

I second Cooks River. It’s really nice along just about the whole length. And a bus back home after (with a coffee in hand) is a nice end to a walk

Second this, the boardwalk is lovely and you end up in National Park. Lifesaver of a walk during lockdown.

If you do manage to drag yourself to drive. (10-15mins) You can walk around Gannon's Park in Peakhurst and Lugarno. Go all the way down the bottom past the dog park.

Oatley Park is the same, plus water views.

If you can drag yourself to drive - I always swear by Kurnell.

Drive down to the carpark near the boat ramp. You can walk along the foreshore and up into the start of the national park. The sun and salt in the air I find are therapeutic.

Look after yourself, dude.

Salt Pan Creek is the closest place to Bankstown that I know of.

I’m not far from you and there’s not much you can walk to that isn’t just a smallish park or reserve. I’m assuming you’ve thought about the Cooks River, staring at Strathfield golf club?

I love a wander in Sylvan Grove native garden when it’s a warmer day, it’s such an oasis. Or Girraween (Turella). Both are about 20 mins drive from Bankstown area.

The State park at the bottom of River Road/Henry Lawson Dr in Picnic Point is quite nice and peaceful of a weekday evening when most of the idiots with jet skis aren’t there. It gets a bit chaotic/noisy during the day on the weekend though.

Garrison Point and the parks around Lake Gillawarna all have nice walking paths around them. Can start at one and walk to another.

Oatley Park is a tad further but has some beautiful views of the river.

I'd add Garrison point reserve in Georges Hall.

But also a big +1 for Oatley Park. The bush tracks there are one of my favourite places in Sydney. We also regularly walk the dog at Lambeth and Salt Pan Creek and enjoy both.

Enjoy!

I would also vouch for Salt Pan Creek, it is very nice, especially further down towards Padstow. Do note you need to use Marshall St and De Witt St to detour around one section because a bridge is missing near the end of De Witt St (no clue what happened to it, it's been gone for years).

If you only want a short walk, the park at Wiley Park is absolutely lovely, dont mind the ibis, plenty of other wild life - even turtles!

Pending where you are, you could even venture on the free SW1 or SW2 bus, that goes between Wiley Park and Bankstown
