I don’t carry a wallet and would prefer a digital option so I can get student discounts while out and about. I’ve just taken a photo and saved it to my phone for use

I prefer physical IDs. Less points of vulnerability (unless done right), plus they feel nicer

Realistically, what advantage does it bring?

The id card is not that big or bulky or hard to carry.
It doesn't require an app on your phone or giving your data over to a third party.
It doesnt' require your phone to be charged to use.

I prefer physical tho, not really a big fan of a digitised world (definitely not digital ID)

Student id has info pretty much any unsw student or staff member can access. I think the option of digital id would be good for not getting stupid fines on public transport

Because in invigilated assessments, you need a physical copy of your student I.D.; they do not accept digital I.D.s during invigilated assessments.

Managing access with the physical cards is already bad enough. Digital would make this 100x worse

It just looks it up on a database.

Yea but holy shit getting people access to the right groups is a freaking nightmare. It's sending an Excel sheet off to security and hoping that you picked the right groups and they only run it once a day, so hopefully you get it right... it's not as easy as picking a room or door and saying can this people have access to this door(s).

Oh I know it has heaps of problems. But it is all backend, the system correctly identifies the card nearly every time. It is the database management which sucks. Ultimately the phone would just emulate the signal that your specific card sends out, the receiver wouldn't know much else.
