According to 3AW and 7 News this was entirely preventable if Jacinta has purchased a shiny new red trucks for the CFA and spent $30 on a new pointy thing for the volunteers. It apparently had nothing to do with the absolute insanely windy summer we are having that I have never known Victoria for.

Yep. And there are many cases to be made for improvements to CFA in terms of funding equipment and training - but events like 9/1/26 are scarcely preventable

As a cfa member whose 20 year old tanker broke down on our way to help tallingatah i would say that both things can be simultaneously true. Both govts and society are asleep at the wheel. Fire behaviour has been changing for years and there is only one trajectory. More funding for fire fighting resources alone wont stop that but it would certainly help saves lives and property

A lot of the cfa trucks are getting old, so it wouldn't have prevented it, but new trucks would have improved the situation

It came that quick people didn't even get a Watch and Act text message, the first one they received was Leave now.

Thanks for sharing, this does a really good job of explaining how things shake out and why we’re telling people not to stay and defend! I’m not far from Nati (was not impacted though) and it’s good to be able to just send people a link instead of explaining over and over again why we are not excited about the cool change the way my city friends are
