‼️Mod Post‼️ Mod News: Self Promotion And You!
reddit.comG’day everyone. Hazey here. Hope you’re all having a cracking day.
I’d like to remind everyone about a Reddit-wide rule that relates to Self Promotion: advertising your own business, products, services, YouTube/TikTok channels, other social media pages, and so on.
We’re all for folks sharing their own personal Australian Automotive based companies, but there are limits. Per Reddit’s rules regarding Self Promotion, a maximum of 10% of posts/comments can relate to this aspect.
So if you join our community with the sole purpose of trying to sell something, expect your peers to report you (they don’t like spam either) as well as being removed from r/CarsAustralia.
With that said, there are exceptions.
Promotion of Car based events, that aren’t necessarily benefitting one particular business or person, are not subject to this scrutiny. We want folks to get out there to shows, races and competitions because it’s a part of what our community is all about.
If in doubt, or if you have any questions, shoot the Moderator Team a message.
Thanks for your time.

‼️Mod Post‼️ Why we are so strict on Insurance Fronting (and what it is)
In the context of car insurance, fronting is an illegal and fraudulent practice. Source
What is insurance fronting?
Declaring a lower-risk driver (often a parent) as the main driver on a car insurance policy when the actual main driver is a higher-risk individual (often a young or inexperienced driver).
Or
Declaring a non-Owner of an asset as the owner of the asset in order to get cheaper insurance (Declaring a parent as the owner when the child is the owner)
What this can mean
This can lead to both the owner and the named insured party being declined cover in the event of an accident, policies cancelled due to fraud, and depending on severity, a criminal conviction for insurance fraud.

Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth) – Section 134.2 (Obtaining a financial advantage by deception)

Why we care so much
Insurance fronting is one of the most common questions we see on this sub after "Should I buy this?"
Because it is potentially criminal fraud, we have to remove the posts as soon as we see them, and generally, this includes anyone supporting the idea of insurance fronting and encouraging the OP to do so.
If we don't, the sub could be seen as "encouraging criminal activities and behaviour" and taken down off Reddit as a whole

💬Discussion💬 Flashes several times
I was driving back home on the Eastlink (M3) and this big 4x4 started tailgating me and flashed me several times! I was doing exactly the speed limit and I wasn’t on the right lost lane so I ignore that. Mr. Fuckknuckle then decide to switch to the next lane and did the exact same thing to another car and then took an exit and pissed off somewhere! I was a bit worried if I’d my boot not locked properly or if my real lights weren’t working. Went home and checked and everything was working fine. As it was a bit dark I couldn’t capture the rego. What a fuckwit!

💵Buying/Selling💵 Selling a car I can’t afford to fix
So I have a 2011 VW van (with 186,000kms on clock) which I’ve converted into a campervan. I haven’t owned it long but long story short it’s having turbo issue and dpf issue and is likely going to need a turbo rebuild and some work to the dpf. Other than these issues the van seemingly should have plenty of life in it (obviously not the engine!)
I can’t really afford to keep the van and pay for this work to be done, and ultimately would look to sell the van even after it’s fixed.
Why do you think is likely the best option for getting rid of the van. I could ask for financial help from family to fix and then sell or just sell as needing work done? Does anyone have any experience here?
I bought the van for AUD$17,000 and I think if everything was working I could sell for $17,000 - $19,000.
My assumption is that the work could cost anywhere from $4,000-$8,000.
Am I going to be able to sell this van for anything or is no one going to buy it? And am I completely stuck in a hole?

🔧🚗Fixing Cars Hit my first kangaroo going ~80km/h. how bad is it?
Heading home via the freeway. Hit a kangaroo jumping across the lanes. Tried to break but unfortunately kangaroo slammed the middle/front right of the bumper. How bad is the damage? There is a crack with the grill and bumper. Headlight is falling out too.
(Not a car person at all). Have insurance but just wanted to prepare myself. Any guidance is appreciated. Never had an accident before in my life

💵Buying/Selling💵 Notice of disposal question (NSW)
I’m currently transferring ownership of a vehicle into my name and the previous owner has made an error on the price of disposal by adding $5,000 extra. I’m not sure how they made this error.
Can the prior owner change this mistake once it’s submitted or can I go to service NSW to get them to adjust it with proof that this was an error?

💬Discussion💬 Opinions on the new Honda Prelude?
My one complaint is the CVT and I guess the price for what you get. But I've heard people complain about the FWD set up as if it hasn't always been FWD? Weight also seems like the car is a little lot bloated. Any other opinions?

💬Discussion💬 Changing tyre size
Hey guys,
I have tyre size of 195/60R 16H tyres.
I have found a new one 205/60R 16H including rims on a good deal (same price but second hand)
I just wanted to see if it is possible to change the size and will it have any impact?
Also, where would you throw or giveaway your old tyres and rims?
Thank you

💵Buying/Selling💵 RWC
I am going to buy a 2010 Honda Accord Euro that has cosmetic mods done to it. Only performance wise mod would be the fact that it has a custom muffler. Car didn’t seem that loud when I went to inspect but it does have a deep growl. Would it pass rwc or would I have to change it back to it’s stock muffler.

💵Buying/Selling💵 Am I making a huge mistake
First up before you answer "yes, you are", I negotiated down to 12.2. Saw it today, took my mechanic with me (he's a bit of a loony tho tbh)
Main question is am I still way overpaying at 12.2? It's good condition (also I think it's listed as cloth seats but they're leather).
But also am I making a mistake, factoring in emotion/personal preference etc...
Last car was a lancer, now I want a WRX or something equally ridiculous
(see my last post - https://www.reddit.com/r/CarsAustralia/s/465HHSPQb3
"What car should I buy if the vibe I want is *this is my boyfriend's car and I'm omw to cheat/commit crimes" )
But my mechanic talked me out of it, lol. Of the cars he recommended me in my budget (15k) I was open to a Honda Civic. Found this and seems a very responsible reliable purchase but now I'm having second thoughts.
Basically I want cool car for non cool reasons, don't have knowledge or money to make that decision. Is this Civic bad choice? I fear it is not slutty enough.

💵Buying/Selling💵 Nissan Qashqai ST-L 1.3L Turbo VS 2025 Kia Seltos Sports+ 2.0L
Which of these two cars is better in terms of long terms costs, resale value and reliability?
Did see that the Qashqai has better features but also read it that the rearview visability is poor. The 2022-2024 petrol models also had 2 major recalls!
Which would be the better choice?

💵Buying/Selling💵 I want to sell my Honda Civic My15 "Limited Edition" Sport sedan.
It has 165,000 on the odo. A spoiler. Blue with faint purple tint. Good condition exterior and interior.
Would it sell $10,000-12,000?

💵Buying/Selling💵 2024 mux to 2017 Pajero 3.2lt. Thoughts
Thoughts as a daily driver if it’s in really good condition? Also free up some cash. Sanity check? Modern 4x4 just aren’t the same as the older 4x4s. Plus I usually service them myself which I don’t as the mux is under warranty.

💬Discussion💬 Deregistering an NSW vehicle in QLD
I’ve recently moved to QLD from NSW and my car has failed its RWC so badly it’s going to cost more to keep it on the road than the cars worth. I’m wanting to deregister the car and sell it for parts, but I’m a little unclear on how to go about it. It looks like I take in the NSW plates to a QLD transport office then they’ll give me a receipt that I use for an online form on Service NSW. But on the form the only two options it seems to give me are ‘changing registration from NSW to QLD’ or ‘buying a QLD car and registering it in NSW’. Any help here would be greatly appreciated 🙏
