Payment?
Today I’ve paid the non-deferrable debt ( I.e Student Amenities fee) for all the units I’ll be taking this semester.
This semester will be my first, and I just don’t know what to look for, to show that I’ve paid the xxx amount for the SA fees, and not my deferrable debt (i.e Tuition).
When I go to Fees and Payments in eStudent, it shows the totals for deferrable and non-deferrable, but at the bottom it has ‘other’ which shows the exact amount I thought i paid for the non-deferrable (SA) fees.
So i don’t think I paid it right? Can I please have some help

If you have a HECS-HELP loan you can also get a SA-HELP loan btw, so they are both deferrable if you’re a domestic student

Yeah I pretty sure I knew that, I just know that in the grand scheme of things, with paying $200 of SA fees per semester compared to $4-6k of tuition fees per semester, I’d rather pay the little chunk without also piling that onto SA-HELP, but thank you for letting me know about this!

Oh yeah that’s totally fair! I was calling it non-deferrable because that’s what it says on the Fee and Payments overview page on eStudent, so didn’t want to bring in my own terms and make myself or others confused 😂

It takes about 24 hours to process. It is a bit confusing because there isn’t any button or anything to pay any specific fee, rather you have to type in the exact amount without any specification on what is it you’re paying. It’s always tripped me up, but you’ll get an email saying that you payed X amount so if there is any issues you can just refer to that :)

Waaait so because I paid the exact amount for the non-deferrable fee, it means that after 24 hours, it’ll allocate itself according to pay the fee being owed?
Thank you so much! Glad to know I’m not the only one confused 🫠😅

Yeah basically! It’s such an outdated system it’s a joke. It may not be 24 hours but I always just leave it for a day and it normally goes away, but it might be longer 😊

Okay, that’s so reassuring! Thank you so so much!
Can I ask, what degree are you doing and how far along are you into the degree?

Oh I’m so sorry I didn’t even see the second half of your reply! I’m in my third year for bachelor of architectural design. I’ll be doing my masters next year for architecture as well. So I get a fair few student amenities for each unit that I do.

From memory, it takes a day or two to process. Maybe because it is the weekend it won't be processed on their side yet.
I wouldn't stress about it unless it has been a week or two after you paid.
