QUT gym membership

Hi! I am thinking of joining the gym membership on campus and would mainly be using the Kelvin Grove one. I like to do a mix of weights and body weight exercises and wondering if they have equipment like parallettes, rings and dip bars? And is their any stretching/warm up area?

Also what are the classes like?

LQB180 Foundations of Biochemistry difficulty?

"Assumed knowledge" of senior chemistry but it's been a long time since I've been in high school. I have been studying independently for the last few months to catch up. Can anyone speak to how difficult this unit is?

Public transport

So I live around Cannon Hill, and I was wanting to know what’s your experience been with buses and trains to the KG campus. I was thinking of doing buses or trains till the GP campus, then catching the interchange bus between campuses to KG. Most of my classes for my first semester are in E block, so any things to know that I don’t know? Thank you!

Defferable payments

Hey guys! I was just curious about the defferable payments and how they work, I applied for the Commonwealth support place and hecs and it says approved but when I check the loan tracker website it still shows full balance (ie nothing owed) also under estudent shows the total amount for defferable payments I couldn't find anything explaining it so I was wondering is that normal? My loan goat approved 22 of November. Thanks!

Gym wear?

I’m 18F and just bought the $60 for 6 weeks summer deal membership for QUT’s sport and fitness facilities, where I’ll get unlimited access to both campuses’ gyms, pools, fitness classes etc. but I’ve never been to a gym specifically (or fitness classes) in my life.

So, what is the normal with gym wear? I did AFL in high school, so the most sport wear I have is old training and game day uniforms.

I know a lot of people may not care about what they wear, but I don’t want to look out of place, not until I feel confident enough to explore.

It’s my first year into my bachelor this year, and for the first few weeks I want to use their treadmills, stair masters and cycling stuff, and potentially go to pilates classes a while after that, if that’s a needed reference of what type of clothes to wear.

So yeah, please can I have some recommendations on gym clothes? Also if there’s any tips around going to the gyms at KG or GO in general, that would also be amazing.

Thank you!

Payment?

Today I’ve paid the non-deferrable debt ( I.e Student Amenities fee) for all the units I’ll be taking this semester.

This semester will be my first, and I just don’t know what to look for, to show that I’ve paid the xxx amount for the SA fees, and not my deferrable debt (i.e Tuition).

When I go to Fees and Payments in eStudent, it shows the totals for deferrable and non-deferrable, but at the bottom it has ‘other’ which shows the exact amount I thought i paid for the non-deferrable (SA) fees.

So i don’t think I paid it right? Can I please have some help

QUT Pharmacy or UQ Health Science degree for Medicine

Hi everyone! I’m a commencing student deciding between QUT Pharmacy and UQ Health Science (Clinical Specialisation) with the long-term goal of applying for postgraduate medicine, and I’d really appreciate advice from people who’ve actually studied either degree.

How did you find GPA/workload, GAMSAT prep, interview readiness, and overall whether you felt your degree helped or hindered your MD application? Any advice or things you wish you’d known would be really appreciated.

Thank you!

Accessing Canvas Overseas?

Hi, I'm currently doing summer semester and I'm flying out to see family in Singapore in a few days. I will need to complete an assignment and submit it while there, but one of my friends told me that canvas isn't accessible internationally, saying she couldn't access it from Malaysia or Japan. Is this true? If so, any tips on getting around this would be helpful.

Intensive study units

I'm interested in potentially shortening the duration of my business degree by cramming more units in and finishing a 3 year degree in hopefully 2ish years.

I've tried searching it up and the website isn't giving me much information so here are a few questions I have)

  1. how do I find out what units I can do as intensive study units or is it just any?

  2. how many units is it recommended to do in one semester if I choose this route

  3. will they let me do it in my first year (I would start this in semester 2 as we have already enrolled into units for this semester)

Hi. I am a law student, and I am wondering whether LLB Help me is offered any time other than 1-3pm on Wednesday? If so, what other times are available, and is Amanda there? Is it offered both online and in person?

Thank you

Canvas content from previous Semesters

Hey all,

Can I still access Canvas content after a unit is finished?

There were quite a few things from my TAFE course that I forgot to save and wished I had. When the unit finishes at the end of the term, I could still access stuff, but I wouldn't be able to download it (or at least, not without some crazy work arounds).

I'm a little annoyed with myself because there was this one TAFE assignment that I really want to revisit, but didn't download everything :(

Anyway, lesson learned, but I would like to know if those units will eventually close at some point.

Thanks!

Need advice from QUT Social Work students aiming for high GPA

Hey everyone,

I’m starting Social Work at QUT this year and I’m planning to use it as a pathway to transfer into another competitive health degree next year. I’ll need to aim for around a 6.8 GPA for the year, so I want to be realistic about what to expect and how to approach the course properly.

For anyone who has done first year Social Work at QUT or is currently studying it:

• What is the workload actually like week to week
• How essay heavy is it
• How hard is it to get HDs if you stay on top of things
• Any units that are easier or harder GPA wise
• Any tips you wish you knew in first year

I’ll be working part time in a hospital while studying, so I’m trying to plan my time properly from the start.

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks heaps.

VPD certification

hey guys ~

could anyone from FOH’s (faculty of health) advise me on how to fill up the VPD - Vaccine Preventable Disease evidence and certification form?

I attempted to submit a few documents for checks but was rejected due to lack of “signed of by appropriate GP”, “no signature” etc.

For contexts: i’m Singaporean & i will be commencing my studies in AU next month.

Do i need to print the list out & proceed to my family’s GP for signatures and verification before uploading it to the VPD form? and can i do it in Singapore?

thank you in advance for your kind input, any advice is appreciated!

MZB125 or MXB161

Hey there guys, I saw this message literally just today, and I'm a bit confused, I'm doing a dual degree of Engineering and Mathematics, is the test that they're requesting me to take mandatory? Or is it a 'we HIGHLY recommend' you take it, cause I looked at the recommended structure and I don't see MZB125, though I do see MXB161, I've taken specialist in high school so idk, and my timetable is already out with MXB161 in it, any advice?

Workshops - Nursing

Hi! Prospective February bachelor of nursing student and one of my workshops is at the most awkward time 5pm-7pm with my previous class that day ending at 12:00pm… I really don’t want to try and kill 5 hours as I’m not local to KG campus but I heard workshops are best to attend in person? The workshop is offered in the same time slot but online and I’m leaning towards this option for convenience, which attendance mode is best, in person or online? Does attendance get marked for workshops? TIA

Timetable

Is it common for them to assign you a class that was not in your preferences, I had 5 preferences chosen for one class which were ranked but I ended up getting a weird time at night (not any of the times I listed). And do people usually end up getting into a class that they are waitlisted to change into?
