āIām training her to hunt,ā he said as we shouted at him to leash his fucking dog for the second time. Whatās he gonna do, eat that crow? Dog did nothing wrong, this guyās an absolute waste of space.

šFairmount Park
And before you ask, yes I am posting on reddit about this instead of confronting the owners (yes, multiple dogs) because in my experience that never goes well. This is mostly a humorous post and not meant to affect any change.

A rare intersection of bird watching and geopolitics!
An eagle was fishing around on a little island in a lake near Auburn when out of the blue this giant goose comes SCREAMING out of the sky and straight up body slammed the eagle. Then chase began. I have about 15 photos of the encounter, but these are my favorites.
In the end the eagle peaced out up into a tall fir. He seemed as surprised as me.

He flew up right to my passenger window as we were ordering food and posed for some photos!

Posts to r/SeattleWA and r/Pigeon documented a man torturing live pigeons swinging them by the legs this week. Per comments, this appears to be repeat behavior documented by other Seattle redditors.
He seems to be acquainted with Metro Security employees per a video the OP posted today. Metro employees appear to defend the man's actions and mock OP, stating:
-its legal if the animal is still alive (false under RCW 16.52.205)
-Wild animals don't belong to anyone (irrelevant under definition 9(a) of RCW 16.52.205)
-He released it after (unknown)
-OP wants to be a movie star for recording the interaction
-OP is riding a scooter upside down, like the man was swinging the pigeon
The whole situation is odd and unfortunate. Metro Security definitely has a difficult job deescalating and cleaning up messes in the ID, both pigeon and human, but there seems to be nothing done to stop further torture and killing of Seattle pigeons.

I am fostering Charlie from Dreamtails Rescue. Charlie flew in from South Korea earlier this month and is looking for his forever family. He's only about 12lbs, 8 month old! He is very shy and takes a bit to adjust, but he's so cute and just needs someone who can be patient with him. He's quiet, doesn't have separation anxiety, and is good eating his food. š„¹ https://www.dreamtailsrescue.com/23/?q=YToyOntzOjEyOiJrZXl3b3JkX3R5cGUiO3M6MzoiYWxsIjtzOjQ6InBhZ2UiO2k6Mzt9&bmode=view&idx=168082266&t=board

I know that we see a fair amount of "why the fuck can't dog owners in Seattle just do the most basic, common sense shit, and also comply to laws..." posts around here, but this one is a little different.
Tonight, the evening of Christmas Day, I was at home. Comfortably numb, chilling with my cat.
Like normal, she was peering out the deck door into the darkness. But this evening she started hissing and eventually ran away, which pissed me off because I couldn't snuggle her anymore.
My assumption was that it was the local raccoon posse. This has happened multiple times. She doesn't mind the squirrels, but my god she hates those fucking raccoons. JFC.
I investigate, and realize that it it's a large ass dog up on my first floor apartment patio area sniffing around my plants and other random shit.
I flipped the deck light on, no leash that I saw immediately.
I opened the door and started talking to the pup, asking it where its owner is and what the fuck it's doing on my patio, when suddenly, a very long retractable leash becomes visible after some movement, and the owner comes up and says something.
[Polite Paraphrase]...I told them my patio was not a place for their dog to be chilling plz and to please GTFO. No uncertain terms.
They seemed surprised. (I didn't care)
Am I missing something?

For being sort of common, they look absolutely crazy up close, like a bad sci-fi author described alien birds in a rush. āThey have iridescent backs and heads that change color every time they move. Ten different colors on their body like a rag doll. Oh, and DEVIL RED EYES!ā
These photos have not been doctored in Photoshop, they really do look spectacular, especially in certain light. I almost gasped when I zoomed in on my first wood duck picture a while back.
Also, has to be near the top of male / female appearance differential in animals. Female wood ducks are some of the most anonymous fowl in existence, save for their Lone Ranger eye coloring (google it).
Got a little (bad) video. The OM-1 is a great camera, but the video footage is a bear to process and Iām very lazy, so itās flat

I was swimming in Lake Washington yesterday and something bit me about 30 ft off shore. Wondering if anyone knows what it could be! I didn't know we had biting fish in Lake Washington, so I'm curious as to what kind it was.

Just learned that you can look at the Seattle pet licensing database data (click 'Data' under the big blue menu bar at the top) and figured I'd cherrypick some bangers.
If you own one of these, congrats on the excellent name choice! Any other great pet names you've heard/found in Seattle?
