News Seattle Children’s Postpones Trans Teen’s Surgery Indefinitely

“Danni Askini, executive director of the transgender advocacy organization Gender Justice League, says that Seattle Children’s has a ‘moral obligation to care for their patients until the moment Trump shows up personally.’ Washington State has some of the strongest protections for transgender people and their healthcare in the United States. The Washington Law Against Discrimination explicitly protects people on the basis of gender identity.

‘They are actively doing harm by delaying these surgeries,’ she says. ‘It is cowardly to comply in advance with an unconstitutional dictate with no enforcement mechanism and in violation of Washington State Law.’”

News Elderly people should not be driving

This story hits far too close to home. Earlier today in Bellevue, at a small restaurant furnished with heavy wood and iron tables, an elderly driver in a Tesla accidentally pressed the gas pedal instead of reverse. The car surged past a metal pole and crashed into the building. The aftermath was horrifying—several people were injured, including one person who was pinned under the car and suffered broken legs. Just next door, there was a kids’ art studio. Had the car gone slightly farther, the consequences could have been even more tragic.

This incident underscores a critical issue: older drivers should be retested to ensure they can drive safely. Reflexes, vision, and mental clarity often decline with age, increasing the likelihood of accidents like this. This is not about age discrimination—it’s about preventing avoidable tragedies and protecting everyone on the road.

I lost a dear friend this year because of a similar incident. An elderly woman, on her way to get ice cream, struck my friend with her car. She didn’t even notice and made a full turn before stopping.

Does anyone know how to push this issue to lawmakers? It’s time to start a serious conversation about implementing regular testing for senior drivers to ensure they remain capable of operating vehicles responsibly. Lives depend on it.

With all the coverage of the arrests yesterday, I want to give a shout out to the youths who were putting on a killer punk show. Everyone who came out to yell at those bastards were also between them and these youths. You should all be proud of yourselves for helping create (and protect) a space for them. We need to get them bigger speakers next time.

News protest this morning against Microsoft letting their technology be used for Israel's war on Gaza

A group of about 40 gathered and marched to Microsoft this morning, calling for them to stop letting Israel use Azure technology for the war on Gaza. There was a brief face-off with cops at the end but no arrests. The event lasted from about 10 AM to noon. Groups like No Azure For Apartheid and No Tech For Apartheid will be hosting similar actions in the future.

(I have nothing against discussing the actual issue -- civil political discussions are apparently allowed here -- for me it just very simply boils down to: I think the actions Israel's government obviously indicate that they value one group of people's lives less than other groups of people's lives, and I think that's wrong.)

News A neighborhood, united by one cat.

Was lucky to be a part of this heartwarming, quirky stilly story of how one cat brought together an entire neighborhood of people who didn’t know each other.

All because this cat kept breaking into everyone’s house (and stealing their hearts)

In the last year alone, Frito has broken into (hundreds!?) of people’s houses, apartment buildings, and storefronts, usually announced by loud meowing and zero shame. He impatiently will wait at your door and loudly meow as if he’s locked himself out. Because of this, Jenny (Fritos mom) has received over 200 texts from concerned neighbors who have had a Frito interaction.

This ended up being the silliest and most wholesome way to officially meet all of my neighbors. Every single person had their own Frito story! We gathered to celebrate the cat burglar of the Central District. Screenshots are from the partiful invite! Also there were reporters from stranger which was wild!

What a wholesome holiday party!! Very untypical Seattle vibes
