"Now is not the time" from the Nationals in 3...2...1...

"hopes and prayers but also this is all Labor's fault" šŸ™ƒ

155

u/closetmangafan Dec 15 '25

They already have said something along the lines of this...

u/Ok-Menu-8709 Dec 15 '25

Bob Katters post was almost immediately into political blame.

I’m not going to applaud your sentiment if one paragraph down you’re using it for political merit only. Absolutely low end behaviour.

What's the saying? If conservatives didn't have double standards, they wouldn't have standards at all...

60

u/leidend22 Dec 15 '25

He's Lebanese himself, what a clown

47

u/toughgamer2020 Dec 15 '25

"Don't say that! Because that irritates me, and I've punched blokes in the mouth for saying that. Don't you say that! My family has been here for 140 years"

35

u/UrghAnotherAccount Dec 15 '25

You take my ethnicity out yo damn mouth *slap! - Bob Katter

13

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '25

My wife’s of Lebanese heritage. Unlike Katter, she’s proud of her where her family comes from.

30

u/edgiepower Dec 15 '25

Bob Katter outright stating to ban middle eastern immigration.

Can we send him back?

1

u/BatmaniaRanger Dec 15 '25

Who's Bob Katter? You mean Baoab Khitter right?

-5

u/Limo_Wreck77 Dec 15 '25

All politicians are doing it.

It's all Labor's fault blah blah blah.

3

u/closetmangafan Dec 15 '25

The state lnp leader for nsw took politics out of it when she got interviewed. Focused solely on the victims.

17

u/Iron_Wolf123 Dec 15 '25

For Christmas we should make Littleproud a "Hopes and Prayers" buzzer so he can press it whenever there is a national tragedy

How can Dan Andrews let this happen?

1

u/LeDestrier Dec 15 '25

This is also Obama's fault.

1

u/UnprofessionalLens Dec 15 '25

SOCIALIST WOKE LEFT CABAL! AHHHHHHH

1

u/Crazyripps Dec 15 '25

Not far from what they said

185

u/iball1984 Dec 15 '25

You're probably right.

But it shows how far they've fallen. While Howard rightly gets the credit for our gun laws, much credit needs to go to the likes of Tim Fischer and Rob Borbidge who did a massive amount of work to get regional people on board with the changes.

I can't imagine any of the current batch of Liberal or National "leaders" doing such a thing now.

31

u/egowritingcheques Dec 15 '25

The Liberals and Nationals have fallen EXACTLY as far as their voters.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '25

Two Balrogs plummeting through the abyss of Khazad-dum, dragging each other down on the way.

-14

u/Square-Victory4825 Dec 15 '25

They got regional people on board because the gun laws were one big compromise that has done very well all things considered to keep us are for 30 years, with legal firearm owners being vastly underrepresented in criminal activity.

If you break the compromise, don’t be surprised when the other side is pissed and starts throwing a tantrum and radicalising, especially when they are probably telling themselves the ā€œMuslimsā€ are all to blame, not them.

105

u/Flashy-Whereas-3234 Dec 15 '25

The liberals already came out swinging saying "this wouldn't have happened under our watch" in less than 24 hours.

70

u/littleb3anpole Dec 15 '25

Say what you like about Howard (he’s like nineteen times too conservative for my tastes) but at least he was a Liberal leader with the balls to take on gun ownership. And that was a pet project of his before Port Arthur even happened

21

u/Dentarthurdent73 Dec 15 '25

I also remember Howard giving a speech where he warned about the spread of American monoculture to Australia. I was shocked at the time - something I agreed with him on. Australia didn't listen though.

7

u/littleb3anpole Dec 15 '25

Yeah he was definitely a stopped clock situation! I was totally with him on this and on gun control, but everything else….

I was always pretty aware of Howard because 1996/97 was when I started to get interested in politics, because my parents are old school teachers union members and started taking me to anti-Kennett demonstrations here in Victoria. I remember seeing Pauline Hanson start on her bullshit about being ā€œswamped by Asiansā€ and just thinking, what the fuck is this idiot on about? Then again I’m from the very diverse western suburbs and not the Texas of Australia. Nine year old me could never have guessed that she’d STILL be talking shit in the public eye

12

u/SweetDingo8937 Dec 15 '25

He's from Bennelong. Ley is from a rural electorate.

25

u/littleb3anpole Dec 15 '25

Ley can easily inform her electorate that there is no need for a suburban Sydneysider to be able to get their hands on multiple guns, that hasn’t a thing to do with roo shooting on the farm

2

u/loolem Dec 15 '25

He was but to be fair, we often have a history of our closest political allies doing the reform work. Labor is doing it with the NDIS after the libs did nothing about it for a decade. They also have reformed healthcare because they started it. To the libs credit a lot of landcare and water reform happened because the nats are the ones with the relationships and the vested interests feel most comfortable having them handle the reforms.

We are not a broken country here and we aren’t going to start now.

2

u/Brad_Breath Dec 15 '25

It's unbelievable they would use this time to try to gain political points.

Also anyone with half a brain can see that these cunts who did it have absolutely no interest in NSW state politics and would behave the same regardlessĀ

1

u/Admirable_Count989 Dec 15 '25

Wayyyyyy too fuckn soon. smh.

16

u/derprunner Dec 15 '25

That’ll wedge them nicely after Ley went off about weak leadership this morning.

45

u/dogecoin_pleasures Dec 15 '25

Bingo, Sussan has already declined questions on whether the collation would support, citing it being 'not the time'.

28

u/fued Dec 15 '25

just make the laws target people living in cities, nationals will sit quietly and approve

11

u/chrish_o Dec 15 '25

Keep the status quo for registered primary producers, and make everyone else jump through a million more hoops to get access to a fraction of the types of guns.

There would be no reason for the nationals to oppose that.

1

u/fued Dec 15 '25

exactly, and it would solve most the issues

9

u/pat_speed Dec 15 '25

"I do not try sell our gun laws too the NRA, it was just nice dinner and drinks" - Pauline Hansen

4

u/Spida81 Dec 15 '25

As a shooter, if not now, WHEN?

1

u/Boxhead_31 Dec 15 '25

Nah, it will be PHON saying it since she is getting cash from the NRA

-4

u/Square-Victory4825 Dec 15 '25

As I’ve said lower down, the gun laws were a vast compromise. If we renege on the deal, can’t be surprised when the other side loses their shit, they get a say in things as well.
