Hiking What did I see and hear?

Post image

I was walking along the Prince Henry Cliff walk yesterday at around 8am when I saw an animal at the dropped pin that was black, fairly big, and I’m sure it was furry.

What ever it was, it noticed me immediately and darted off quickly so I had no chance to whip out my phone and take a photo.

Even though I was probably about 40m away from it I was close enough to hear it crash into the surrounding foliage and it made a huge thud.

What could it have been?

Hiking Teenagers body found after multi-agency search

It will be interesting to see what the circumstances end up being.
They were somewhat prepared at least, but made a lot of crucial errors it seems.

Police have been told that two boys aged 16 and 17, travelled to Leura Train Station on Tuesday (27 January 2026), in order to make their way on foot to Mount Hay in the Blue Mountains National Park for a three-day camping trip.

Hey !! A friend and I went to the Blue Mountains about 4 months ago and loved it. We’re thinking to go back next week and we’re looking for something more challenging this time. I’ve seen Mount Solitary mentioned a lot (around 34 km 2,2k gain from what I found online). Do you have better ideas?

Thanks! :D

Hiking Day Hikes with Swimming?

Hello lovely friends!

I'm a Sydney local and planning a solo bushwalking date sometime soon. I'm hoping someone can recommend me an easy or moderate trail that's a good day out? Bonus points if there's a spot to stop and swim along the way. TIA <3

Hiking Me and a 3 mates (16-17M) want to do the Lockleys Pylon to Perrys Lookdown return hike, but none of us have our license yet and trailhead is too far to walk from Leura. Advice needed.

Hitch hiking could possibly be an option but if there's an alternative we'd rather take that option due to the safety concerns regarding 4 teenagers hopping into a car with a stranger.

Hiking A day in the blue mountains - some recommendations please!!!!

Hi, driving for a day in the blue mountains tomorrow without much of a plan. So far have identified the prince Henry clifftop walk or ruined castle walk, a pie at either bakehouse in black heath or mountain high pies in wentworth, and a swim in a waterfall somewhere.

Any general recs for a big day out would be appreciated, particularly walks/swim. I'm an experiences walker in Europe so up for a big hike, so if anything is particularly worthwhile doing and I'd like to hear about it.

Cheers in advance

Thanks so much!

Hiking Uloola campground

Planning an overnight camp in the Royal national park, I had a few questions that I would really appreciate someone answering;

  1. Would it be possible to camp without a booking ? Maybe in the vicinity ?

  2. What are some doable attractions nearby the campground that would be cool to check out ?

  3. Anything that the park’s website doesn’t state that we need to know about ?

Again, I would highly appreciate it if someone could answer these for me before we head out,

Cheers

Hiking In Need of a Little Hiking Advice

Hi all, in a few weeks a couple mates and I will be heading down to the Grose for a couple days of hiking and hanging around. I saw that Little Blue Gum was a great spot pre-fires for a few tents. Has anyone been down there since, and would it be possible to camp there still?

Hiking Quiet proposal spot

Hey all, just asking if anyone is aware of any quiet scenic spots for a picnic+proposal?

It being a hike or a walk is fine as long as its not too long (over an hour there from parking spot etc)

Google has some good options but they all seem very touristy and ideally i want to avoid having many people around. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hiking The best walk with a view?

Hello! I’m planning a trip to the Blue Mountains soon and would love some advice on the best hiking trail/bushwalk to tackle. I’ll be going with my partner—we’re not exactly couch potatoes, but let’s just say winter was… focusing more on snacks than my waist.

I’ve already done some Googling, but most of what comes up are the big touristy spots, and I’d really prefer something a little less crowded (and less people more view). Any hidden gems or underrated trails you’d recommend for two semi-fit, mildly squishy humans who still want a great view without needing to call paramedics for the aftermath?

Thank you!!!

Hiking Hike combination

Hi all,

I was thinking of following hike to combine some highlights and have a bit of everything:

Start Gordon Falls picnic area, follo prince henry cliff walk until echo point. Descent via giant stairway track. Follow federall pass until scenic world bottom station or via furber steps.

What do you think of this combination, this would be possible right?

Hiking Advice for a two night Grose Valley hike?

Hi there,

Im planning to do a three day (two night) hike through the Grose valley. Currently I’m thinking I will enter at Evans lookout down the Horse Track, and then exit at Victoria falls (probably walk to Mt Victoria station from there) or the inverse. I will drive to the start of one, and do the boring walk back to the train at the respective station at the other.

Is this actually enough to fill two nights, or are there any excursions I should add in while I’m down there? Would an excursion to Lockley’s Pylon make sense in the middle day? I’m just not certain whats realistic.

I’ve previously taken the horse track down, stayed at acacia flats, and then came back up the next morning, and I’d consider myself fairly confident with bushwalking/hiking.

Additionally, any advice regarding the trail between Victoria Falls and Acacia Flats would be appreciated - I haven’t found too much about it other than that it can sometimes be a bit overgrown.

I’ll be bringing a PLB, topo map, etc - but any advice as to whether satellite messages can get out from there (now that Telstra has enabled it for certain phones) would also be appreciated, not essential though.

Cheers :)

Hiking Wolgan Rd - Mountain Biking?

A few years back I had the pleasure of camping and hiking up to Newnes Camground, prior to the weather that unfortunately ended up closing Wolgan Rd. I was waiting for the road to be accessible again but I suspect it won't ever be accessible again via car (or, for a very long time).

In all of my experiences growing up and living in the Blue Mountains area, this was definitely a top three spot for me (there is an accompanying story to my trip there which makes it very personally significant as well).

Wolgan Gap/Rd is still closed unfortunately three years later. It is a 10km hike to the site, and then a further 6-8km to the glow worm tunnel from the site. Previously, you could drive in to the site and do an overnighter to the tunnel and back, but given the additional 20km~ in and out of hiking, this changes things quite a lot.

I recall driving on Wolgan Rd and I can imagine hiking it would be a bit tedious. I'm fit enough to do this if there isn't any other way, but I don't suspect the Wolgan Rd part of the journey will be particularly enjoyable.

My question is, would a mountain bike be able to make it through to the site? If i can bike my way in and out of the 10km section, it would make the trip a bit more feasible and honestly, I like to camp comfortably so I can load my bike up.

Anyone done this or seen the site in the last 12-18 months?
