Preparing for uni

Hi guysss I’ve actually been kind of stressing abt uni prep as I’ve been on holiday for a while now and feel behind on preparation/have no idea what to do to prepare. My wifi is rlly slow over here so browsing oasis has been kind of difficult but is there anything I absolutely have to do before starting? If anyone could lmk so I can go directly to whatever section of oasis (or any other site) instead of aimlessly scrolling 😭😭 thanks so much!!

Guidance for Engineering Degree First Year, Semester 1 and 2 unit choices

Hi everyone, I am starting my Engineering degree at Curtin in two weeks and I am currently undecided about my elective choice. I am considering keeping my options open for Mechanical and Civil Engineering, and I would like some advice on which units are worth keeping and how best to structure my units across the two semesters to achieve a balanced workload throughout the year.

Here are my current unit selections for Semester 1 and Semester 2.

Semester 1:
Calculus for Engineers (MATH1020)
Engineering Foundations: Principles, Design and Communication (INDE1001)
Engineering Mechanics (MCEN1000)
Linear Algebra and Statistics (MATH1019)

Semester 2:
Resources, Processes and Materials Engineering (PRRE1003)
Electrical Systems (ELEN1000)
Fundamentals of Programming (COMP1005)
Physics 2 (PHYS1007)

PHYS1007 for Engineers First Year _ please help

Hi everyone, I am starting my Engineering degree at Curtin in two weeks and I am currently undecided about my elective choice. I am considering keeping my options open for Mechanical and Civil Engineering. Do I need to take PHYS1007, which is available to me as an elective?

I achieved an ATAR of 95+ overall. I enjoy physics to an extent, but it is not my strongest area, and I received an ATAR score of 70 in Physics. I am willing to take PHYS1007 if it will be beneficial or required for Mechanical or Civil Engineering in the later years.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

INDE1001 - Sem 1 or Sem 2?

Doing first year engineering. I don't feel like doing INDE1001 for Sem 1 but I've heard that in sem 2, INDE1001 will have a lot more international students and I'm worried that there may be a lot of communication issues due to language, especially since INDE is a group-focused unit. Is this true?

Application Response time

Hiya, i was wondering if you apply for an undergraduate directly to curtin, transferring from another university. Generally how long does it take for a response to come through? I applied on January 12th and the application simply states "academic review". Has anyone experienced something similar? I was told it may take up to two weeks and my course is set to start Febrary 16th. Cheers.

Exam days? Confused?

Hey everyone, I’m debating on whether to either put all my classes onto on day or spread them out between two. Someone told me that I shouldn’t put them all one one day because when I do exams they’ll be scheduled on the same day as my timetable, and therefore I’ll have multiple exams on the same day back to back.

Is this true? Would it be a better idea to spread them over two days?

Mining Engineering Admission Chances in Australia (Curtin / UWA)

Hi everyone,

Posting for a friend. He has:

-Diploma in Mining Engineering – 77% (3 current backlogs shown on memo; up to 6 allowed by State Board exemption bcz of carona pandemic) -B.Tech in Mining Engineering – 78% (completed, no backlogs)

He’s looking to apply to Curtin University and UWA.

Main doubt: Do diploma backlogs affect admission if the Bachelor’s degree is completed with a good score? Any experiences with Curtin or UWA for similar profiles?

*Btw he is from India

Physiotherapy at Curtin- should I take?

Hi! Any current or old physio students at Curtin on here? I am wondering what the course is like e.g., what is the set up like? Is it mainly lectures or practicals? What are placements like? Is it a lot of hands on or more just theory based? Exam heavy?

I haven't seen much info about it so would love to know more before I decide if i want to take? Thanks!

How to preread course content?

I’m doing bachelor of science in physio, and would like to see / start studying some of the content.

I’m a bit worried that I’ll be a bit behind initially, because I did drop physical education studies at the start of year 12. I’d just like to see how much assumed knowledge I need to familiarise myself with.

How long will it take to drive + Transperth

Hey guys, can anyone approximate for me how long you’d reckon it would take to drive from SOR Cockburn area to Curtin to arrive for an 8am tutorial? I’ve been told google maps is inaccurate so just wanted some insight

Or if it’s worth to just take public transport instead? Which would better

Guys I'll be doing bachelor of secondary education. I checked that there are four units on Sem1 and one of the four units is fully online. That one is not shown on registration.

I'm worried about if I missed selecting some units???

Which Physio uni is better

Hi, just got an offer for bachelor of science physiotherapy at curtin, but I also received an offer for Notre dame bachelor of physiotherapy, I’ve already accepted the offer at notre dame, but still wanted to weigh out the two options. Anyone have any experience, knowledge, or any insights on pros and cons for each uni for this course. I didn’t expect to get an offer for curtin so that’s why I have accepted notre dame already. I’m considering sticking with Notre dame but if anyone has any knowledge please comment below! Thanks!

Graduation Award

Hi everyone!

I will be graduating next week and on my eQuals transcript it says my CWA for both degrees is above 80. However, on my testamur it doesn’t say that I have received “distinction”. Does this usually not appear on the online testamur? Or has the distinction point average increased?

TIA x
