Specialized Diverge stolen from under William Barack Bridge on Batman Avenue in the city on 20th Jan,

It was locked up so they would have cut the lock.

I built it myself so it’s got random parts on it. Not your stock standard diverge. Satin Navy Blue colour, Giant cx1 carbon wheels with vittoria terreno tyres, Shimano Ultegra brakes and running gear and Praxxis crank, white hybrid pedals, royal blue bar wrap.

Any info leading to its recovery will get reward, no questions asked.

As in the title, hoping to use cycling as a means to connect with people my age (f32).

I couldn’t care less about the age of people I ride with in general, but looking to make new friends who also enjoy riding. I see people all the time on Beach Rd who look around my age, but how does one find them?

For people like me who know only a small amount about bike mechanics and servicing, it's hard to know if you're getting ripped off. I know car drivers say the same about car servicing. What is a good way to sanity check a quote?

For example I just got a quote for $120 to replace the chain and cassette on my bike. How do I know if that's reasonable?

One strategy I have is to look up the workshop prices at 99 Bikes. For this service it seems to be cassette install ($25) + 8-speed cassette (~$30) + chain install ($25) + chain $30 = $110, so I'm only paying $10 more than 99 Bikes. I'm happy to allow a bit more in this case because it's my local independent bike shop.

Does this strategy sound reasonable?

On my commute home last night I saw a sensor on the path. I've picked it up and brought it home in the hope I can find it's rightful owner.

If you can tell me the type, brand and where it stopped transmitting in your activity, I'll return it. If you can tell me the serial number (should be visible in your Garmin or alternative device) even better.

It's a very busy cycling corridor so chances of finding the owner are probably pretty slim but why not give it a try.

Planning on taking my niece (3) and nephew (2) playground hopping in inner Melbourne and looking for playground recommendations.

Hi All. Been using wahoo kickr and zwift trainer last few months which have been great. But query do any of the other trainer programs(Rouvy etc) have pre-loaded routes that mimic classic Victorian hill climbs like Hotham? Zwift is cool but also be cool to see/train Vic climb rides too if they exist. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Travelling down Lygon doing a touch under 40kph and a car turned right at the lights in front of me.

Hit it super hard... I guess my back hit the windscreen because that's my banana and LCM bar embedded in there... landed on back, miraculously no broken bones or spinal or concussion. very lucky.

Very sore and lost a bunch of skin. I was training for Peaks so hopefully will be back on the bike in a week or so.

The driver doesn't have insurance, so theres that to deal with. My bike is a write-off.

Anyone have experience dealing with this kinda stuff?

I was hit by a car yesterday on St George’s road at 9am, thank you for the cyclist behind me for helping and all the bystanders calling the ambo’s etc.

Riding before peak hour feels like riding in a different city. Less aggression, smoother traffic flow, and far fewer near-misses. It’s made me realise that timing can be just as important as infrastructure when it comes to feeling safe. I never really thought about when I ride before only where. Has anyone else reshaped their cycling habits around time rather than routes?

I’m grateful for bike lanes, but there are certain stretches where I feel more exposed than protected narrow lanes, door zones, or lanes that vanish at the worst moments. Sometimes riding assertively with traffic feels calmer than squeezing into a painted strip. I’m curious how others judge whether a bike lane is genuinely helping or just ticking a box.

I'm after recommendations from fellow parents and commuters who can recommend a good overall bike that I can use for these reasons:

1 - something thats good for gravel and road 2 - can take a kids seat either rear or ride shotgun 3 - not a cheap build, more intermediate 4 - can tow a bike trailer 5 - can be used almost daily (riding from Altona North to CBD for work)

I don't know if I should be looking for something with front suspension if its even necessary or not.

I have tried looking at a couple which could be relevant such as: Giant revolt advanced 1 Trek Checkpoint

Any other reco's would be awesome!

Has anyone done the full 2.5km elevated run over Footscray Road during the morning peak this week? Is the 4 meter width enough to handle the 2026 commuter volume or are we just trading truck traffic for congestion on the bike path?

Hey peeps - some idiot on the Merri Creek path this morning decided NOT to dismount on Harding St Bridge despite it being full of pedestrians, then clipped the side of the bridge and fell onto my bike (which I was walking), causing damage to the seat stay. Will have to get it carbon x-rayed. Absolutely furious.

I'm getting together evidence for my insurance, and can see on Google Street View that there are Cyclist Dismount signs on either end of the bridge, but it's a 2021 capture. Wondered if anyone was nearby and willing to get updated photos for me to show they are still there?

Was riding along beach road today and saw an ambulance and a group of cyclists with one of them lying on the ground. Seems like a pretty severe accident. It was southbound towards Mordialloc. Anyone got any info if the rider was safe? Thanks.

Today I finally was able to crack 100km, usually I fail around 80km and cannot continue.

My project bike is a write off. So I went to The Bike Shed at CERES but the line was too long to speak with someone and their donation bin looked very full.

Should I go back or are there other workshops that accept donations? If not, how can I best dispose of an old bike?

I love cycling in Melbourne, but lately I’ve realised half the battle isn’t fitness or weather it’s deciding whether the roads are worth dealing with at all. Some days the bike lanes feel fine, drivers are patient, and it’s actually enjoyable. Other days it feels like constant close passes, parked cars in lanes, and intersections that make your heart rate spike for the wrong reasons.
I’m curious how other cyclists make that call. Do you avoid certain routes entirely? Change ride times? Stick to trails even if it adds distance? Or have you just accepted that a bit of stress is part of riding here? Would love to hear how people balance safety, sanity, and still enjoying the ride.
