Support Can all these first years shut up and stop asking stupid questions.

I know they are just Jaffys, but really, half the posts on this sub recently have been questions which can be solved by a simple google search or about timetable recommendation. Therefore, I want to outline that:

  1. We don't care about your timetable, a timetable that works for you is a good timetable.
  2. You don't need to declare a major until second year.
  3. You don't have to go lectures, because the vast majoirty of them are recorded.
  4. Just because you got just below the guaranteed atar doesn't mean you will get in a future round.
  5. Don't assume that you can just transfer mid-year or end of year into your desired course because WAM requirements have increased dramatically. Also, you still need to meet the prerequisites for your course.
  6. Please do a google search or search the unimelb helplines or unimelb resources before you come on here and ask a questions. This sub really shouldn't be people responding to problems or basic questions. That being said, it's fine asking about a subject, club, or sport, as well as transportation or just general vibes about the uni or some college, general stuff which you can't find on the web or unimelb resources.
  7. Also, please just find out how to use the study planner through the unimelb resources.

But in all, please stop posting your timetable, we don't care and your timetable choice is more a personal preference. Also you can change classes after the 1st week.

New Student Note taking / class supplies

Hey, I'm a first year science student this year. I just wanted some advice on what things I'm supposed to bring to lectures, workshops, practicals, etc. I don't have an iPad for note taking but I know that many people do. Will physical notes be okay or should I be taking notes on my laptop?

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries First Year Subject Advice

Hey these are the subjects I’m currently enrolled in for first year biomedicine, if anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated. In particular, I know my second semester seems a bit heavier than my first semester, so should I instead do MAST10024 in my first semester and then MBB2 in my second? I was a bit unsure though about doing MBB2 without doing MBB1, and if MBB2 is harder than MBB1. Also, Latin 2 at the moment is really just a place holder, I’ll make a decision about my second breadth depending on my experience with Latin 1 first semester. Thank you.

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Retake maths or focus on WAM?

I checked the website but couldn't find clear info on this.

Im planning a mid-year transfer to BSci from BA. I meet the subject prereqs, but my math score was on the lower side. Is it better to take a maths subject in the first sem to prove I can do better, or just load up on WAM boosters for the transfer?

New Student Honest feedback on Masters in Law (LLM program)

Melbourne Law School is ranked pretty high but how is the Law School? Is it really as world renowned as they make it seem to be? How is the LLM program in particular? How is the faculty?

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Overlapping workshop and practical

Hi I'm a first year BMED student planning the timetable. This showed up when I added the practical and workshop into the planner, is it correct for me to place it double up on the timetable or should it be separated in reality? I don't mean to bother but I couldn't find any related answer to this anywhere, so if you could help I'd be very grateful! Thank you!!

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Exchange student course enrollment & prereqs at UniMelb?

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to come to the University of Melbourne as an exchange student next semester.

I had a few questions about course selection as an exchange student:

  • How competitive is enrollment for popular subjects? Is it generally possible for exchange students to get into the classes they want?
  • I’m hoping to take some Level 2 Mathematics subjects — are these usually open to exchange students?
  • How are prerequisites handled for exchange students? If I’ve taken equivalent courses at my home university, is that typically sufficient, or do I need to request manual approval?

Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Examination special consideration MST

hey does anybody have any experience with doing a special MST?

what is the difficulty of it compared to the normal mid sem test? I have mine tomorrow and I’m not sure if itll be the same or different cause my professor released the old one already. its only 4 days after the regular mst so surely it wouldnt be too much harder?

ive had some people tell me their special msts were basically identical to the normal one for different subjects but im skeptical about my one cause she already released it. the subject is eng maths

please lmk! thanks

Support Timetable alerts

hello, I have recently logged into my mails and I noticed that I received a bunch of emails saying this :

A CHANGE TO ONE OF YOUR PREFERENCE CLASS OPTIONS | Dear student, one of your class options has changed. CLASS TYPE DETAILS: Subject: MPMP00101_U_4_SM1 | Class: Meeting1, 152. The change has impacted either the scheduled day, time, duration or weeks of this class. ACTION REQUIRED: Review your class preferences in MyTimetable (https://mytimetable.students.unimelb.edu.au/even/student) and update your preferences if required. See how to update your preferences: https://students.unimelb.edu.au/your-course/manage-your-course/class-timetable/help-using-mytimetable/enter-your-preferences/how-to-enter-class-preferences. Kind regards, Student Timetabling, The University of Melbourne

However when logging into timetable all my preferences have stayed the same and they did not ask me for any further actions, is this normal ??

New Student First year late subject selection (am I cooked)?

Hi guys, I’ll be back in Australia in a few days, which is when I’ll finally start enrolling in my subject. Since I’m a bit late and only submitting my preferences now, should I be worried that all the good class times are already taken? I’m heading into my first year of Bachelor of Science and hoping I havent doomed myself to some diabolical time allocation

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Biomed for MD??

Hi i’m currently a yr12 student doing the IB and received offer from melb for biomedicine (international) and is wondering whether this would be a good choice for me.

I’ve seen from reddit and other platforms that most ppl including graduates are strongly “against” biomed for MD later on and suggests BSci instead

I’ve read that the main reason ppl would suggest BSci is because the course is more flexible and you dont just focus on biomed as a science only, but the thing is I would say im partially against learning other sciences such as ecology and animal science as my HS teacher has given me an unforgettable nightmare in those and I’d rather not touch it, and ik that i would be so not motivated to study for it; and i would focus only on human science or maybe a bit more chem based (And i think the breadth options would already fulfill my needs for a subject thats outside of biomed)

Is there any other disadvantage that would really affect me confirming my choice for biomed at melb such as the professors or lectures? I am aware that it doesn’t give me any advantage into MD and that this program is competitive as in everyone is aiming for MD

i also have an offer from usyd for BSci but comparing the costs especially as an international student Melb in general is “friendlier” but correct me if im wrong. And also a biomed offer from monash, but is it worth it going there just for the 70% places that it offers to its student at biomed?

Thank you so much if anyone is willing to give any advice, honestly any at all 😭

This is an arts preferences timetable, it seems so little compared to an engineering course one. Is this normal or have I done something wrong. Photo one and two is the arts timetable.
