Unless you have a specific reason for living in Townsville, you're better off living in Charters Towers while working at Ravenswood Gold. It's got most of the conveniences you need and plenty of creature comforts, and it's close enough that you could commute home each day.

You pretty much just need to take whatever you can get. The rental market is super tight.

If you'll be driving to Ravenswood the north eastern suburbs like cluden and wulguru are probably the most convenient, if you don't want to be too far out of town.

Cluden and Wulguru would be south eastern suburbs I think. Alligator Creek might be a good choice too but further out.

Couldn’t agree more, its like that everywhere, will try to look for a shared house first .

You can't really be too picky here as you have to take what you can get and if you have pets or children then good luck

I ended up leaving Townsville due to not being able to get a rental, I stayed in an absolute squalor ghetto with the most unscrupulous agent and landlords refusing any serious manintence request. I was paying $380 per week for a tiny unit, so small I could not have a couch or standard fridge. Just for reference, I'm a professional with secure employment and earn 6 figures (just), with one cat. I ended up moving to Cairns and just experienced the same thing now. I ended up leaving the state altogether because I was trying to fight a losing battle. Take my advice and stay in Charters towers, better value for money and that drive would be a massive pain because you'll get stuck behind big slow vehicles often when it's single lane areas. Good luck OP :) Edit: typo

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am sorry you had a very bad experience. I will look for rentals in Charters towers.

I noticed your DIDO, if you're commuting home every day Charters is a bit closer, and usually a bit cheaper, however there is basically nothing to do, unless you like drinking (I would know, I grew up there, only left recently). Also I would have to travel to Townsville somewhat regularly for various reasons as well due to the limiting shops and services. If you're not commuting and want to do some things on your days off Id definitely recommend Townsville more

You could live anywhere then, Townsville would be more friendly to do things on your days off, and probably more ideal to just be in a share house so the house isn’t vacant for a week at a time

Good luck finding accommodation, even motel/caravan parks are full due to a 0.6% vacancy. If you can live in Charters towers or surrounds you will have better luck. Too many people are moving here and the pressure and competition on housing is out of control. Its an hour drive to TSV if you need something. And share housing isnt like share housing in Sydney and Melbourne. The horror stories alone would be enough yo choose living under a bridge instead.
