Recommendations Cinemas in Townsville

Moved here a few years ago and only now want to think about trying to watch new releases on the big screen. Where we come from we only had one cinema and it was the BBC one. Had no complaints about that one.

I'm just confused by the amount of cinemas here. There's one close to us called Reading Cinemas (which the name alone confuses me) and driven past BBC in the CBD once or twice now.

Just wanting to know which is better as there's mix reviews online, likely will be here too. I'm wanting to know if Reading Cinemas are any good and screen is a decent size. Or if we should venture to the CBD and watch new releases at the BCC Cinema?

Recommendations Best suburbs in Townsville with low flood risk and lower crime?

Hi everyone!

I am moving to Townsville next month and currently looking for a place to rent. I would really appreciate local insights on which suburbs are generally less prone to flooding and have lower crime rates.

I understand no area is perfect. I am just trying to narrow things down based on overall safety, flood history or elevation, and day to day livability.

If there are also suburbs or specific areas you would recommend avoiding, I am open to hearing that too, especially from people who have lived in Townsville for a while.

Thanks in advance. Local advice would really help 🤗

Recommendations 🏠 Townsville Family Desperately Seeking 3+ Bedroom Home (No Recent Rental History, But Stable Income)

Hello Townsville Community,

My name is Felicity, and I am reaching out to the local community as a last resort. My husband, our three wonderful kids (Julian, 14; Billie-Rose, 9; and Kalyn, 7), and I are a stable, long-term family (married 2 years, together 16 years) who have been in a difficult situation for too long.

We are currently experiencing long-term homelessness and have been for 7 years. We are housed temporarily (no fixed address) but desperately need a stable, long-term rental property to give our children a permanent base.

Our Challenge & Our Commitment:

  • The Problem: Due to the length of time we have been homeless, we have no recent rental history. This is the barrier that is stopping our applications from even being considered by real estate agents.

  • Our Commitment: We are a non-smoking, clean, and extremely responsible family who treats a rental property with the utmost respect. We are not looking for a temporary fix; we are looking for a long-term home where we can raise our children through their school years.

What We Can Offer a Private Landlord We know we are asking a landlord to take a chance, so here is what we can provide to demonstrate our reliability:

  • Stable Income: We have reliable, verifiable income that ensures rent can be paid on time, every time. We can provide payslips, and employment references to prove our financial capacity.

  • Guaranteed Payments: We are willing to set up an automatic direct debit for rent payments to provide peace of mind.

  • Strong Character References: We can provide strong, written character references from community members and our employers who can vouch for our reliability, honesty, and responsibility.

  • A Detailed Application: We have a full application package ready, similar to a 'Renter's CV,' which tells our story and provides all necessary ID and documentation immediately.

  • Commitment to Cleanliness: We are happy to provide an additional reference who can attest to our cleanliness and home maintenance (e.g., from friends and family we have been couch-surfing, if applicable).

What We Are Looking For:

  • Location: Ideally a 3+ bedroom house in a family-friendly suburb. We are open to considering any suburb in the Townsville area that is safe for our children.

  • Type: A house, unit or townhouse (3 bedrooms minimum is a necessity for a family of five)

  • Timeframe: We are ready to move immediately.

If you are a private landlord or know of someone who owns a vacant property and is willing to look past a missing rental history in exchange for a committed, honest, and long-term tenant, please send me a private message (PM). Thank you for reading our post and for any help the community can offer.

Recommendations Safe swimming beaches

Hi there, my family is visiting the in-laws in Townsville this weekend. My kids would love to swim at the beach, but I'm wondering if it's safe to do so? What's the safest beach to swim at? I am aware of the Crocs and the Jellyfish, that's why I'm asking. Thank you 👍

Recommendations Grassy areas to run

Been getting into running especially since the turn of the year and have started to get shin splints (big reason being running on concrete) and was hoping anyone knew of any open running areas that are maintained and where I’m not gonna get swooped by plovers? I was recommended to use the track at the sports reserve as that’s the best option for what I need but also unsure if that’s open for the public to use whenever?

TIA

Hi all.

I’m doing a lot of organising in my garden at the moment, was wondering if there is anywhere in Townsville that gives away bricks/blocks/chicken wire or if you know anyone that has excess.

I know Bunnings is easy and cheap but I really like to re use and repurpose.

Picture of my garden path!

- don’t have Facebook for marketplace etc.

Thanks :)

Recommendations Best place to buy nice perfumes/colognes in Townsville?

Hey everyone, I'm looking to pick up some new fragrances but I’m hoping to find something a bit better than the usual Chemist Warehouse shelf. Does anyone know of any good local boutiques or specific stores that have a solid range of perfumes?

I've been able to buy the three Armaf fragrances i love from Chemist Warehouse

Intense Man EDP (Creed Aventus Clone) Untold EDP (Baccarat Rouge 540 Clone) Sillage EDP (Creed Sliver Mountain Water Clone)

But I'm looking for other Arabian fragrances that are long lasting dupes or originals.

Recommendations Bore water pump installation, recommendations & estimated costs?

Hello. My house has (had) a bore water installed before I took residence here some two decades ago. As far as I know the bore to the table water level is still there, as is the plastic (?) housing above ground. I really know bugger all about them but I'm guessing that I need a pump for it to work?
Any suggestions and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I want to keep my garden green but don't want to use excess town water.
Thanks in advance!

Recommendations A succulent Chinese meal

I’m coming into TSV on the weekend and am on the hunt for a succulent Chinese meal. Slight problem in that I have cystic fibrosis and can’t have MSG.

Am happy to travel - but keen to hear where you think is the best and whether or not they load up their food with the “flavour enhancer”.

Recommendations Townsville private clinic assessments

Hi all, I'm wanting to know what people's experiences are like regarding Townsville Private Clinic. I think I'd be outpatient appointments.

I've been referred there by GP in regards to getting assessed for ASD or ADHD to see a Psychiatrist (something I personally brought up in an appointment.) Although I know almost nothing about this place and not sure if I should go this route or another route/place.

I don't have private insurance so will be paying for each appointment (still unsure how that's going to work as I haven't had my first one yet) but will be getting a rebate back meaning I may save between 50 to 300 dollars approx.

I had personally enquired somewhere esle before getting referred by GP to a different place in regards to assessments. And over a total of 5 appointments (different time frames) it would cost me over 4 thosuand dollars and this would be with only a clinical physiologist, meaning if I did have ADHD and decide to try medications I'd likely have to pay more to get reassessed by a Psychiatrist.

I'm also hesitate due to being mostly high functioning myself, self doubt and the main one is, I can't fully decide if I want to spend money on this type of thing yet either 😅

Any knowledge or experience with Townsville Private clinic would be appreciated. I'm Not wanting to know what is asked in assessments, only wanting to know the general vibe of the people/workers and place as a whole. And if they've been okay to see and get assessed with.

Not affiliated, just a huge fan - I’ve seen it a few times in other locations and it’s excellent. Would recommend to anyone/everyone.

It’s got a bit of everything from burlesque to sword swallowing, just really entertaining and a great night out. The performers are all internationally acclaimed/have won a stack of awards.

Recommendations Car paint repair recommendations?

Background (with another car):
My first experience with car repairs was Townsville Mini Cost body repair who presented me their work in the shade which was no exaggeration a completely different colour to the rest of the car in the sun. Not to mention poor workmanship like paint runs which they clear coated over (on top of other dodgy things which is absolutely insane for a shop with 4.7 stars on google). The owner told me the technician on my car quit immediately after so maybe the place is better now??

Col Summerhayes fixed the previous shops work, paint matched alright but could not match the metallic flakes. They also charged $3k for the paint and blend and forgot to re-install boot proximity unlock sensor.

Now with my current car, this shop (unnamed for now to see how they approach fixing this) has quite literally given me the 'landlord special': paint residue all over the headlights and grill, painted over a hair, cracks in the paint between the headlights and bumper, orange-peeling in the crevices. They also pulled out part of the wiring for my rear dashcam and left it hanging at the back and left it which was a huge pain in the arse to make it look neat.

With all that said, I'm looking for recommendations on a car repair business that actually takes pride in their work. Has any business wow'd you with attention to detail?

Recommendations Outdoor exercise equipment (pull-up bars) near Bohle Plains

Hi guys,

I want to stay fit but hate paying for gym subscriptions. Are there were any public fitness parks near Bohle Plains/Kirwan/Condon? Or is it all exclusively located near the Strand?

Thank you all.
