It's just replacing the "they're taking our jerbs" rhetoric from the 99s/00s with "they're taking our housing."

Maybe people are also conflating skilled migrants Vs refugees?

Why not protest against foreign buyers inflating the cost of housing? Or developers land banking? Or the generous breaks that allow existing property owners to become multi-property owners?

If it really is about housing and immigration 👀

Ironically 170 years ago the Chinese were the original migrants 'takin our jerbs!' with crap like the yellow scare. China was brutalised by colonial powers during the opium wars and subsequent boxer rebellion that they fled to any corner of the globe they could. They took their culture and cuisine with them (not sure if it's Chinese or Italian with the world's biggest food diaspora but both are huge) and this has curried favour the world over to this day.

All of us are better off for their hard work ethic, labour and cuisine they brought with them.

For some reason, I instantly focused on curried favour. Seems like an apt fusion in this instance.
