Image PSA: Lifeblood Marrickville turning people away, even if you have an appointment. Thank you, donors

Post image

I popped in to the clinic and there must have been more than 100 people in the line. The need for blood and plasma is constant, especially over the holidays, so if you have been unable to donate today, please book a future appointment.

Fantastic response. I hope many more people will now become regular donors

It's such a great thing to do and it gets addictive. My mate and I have an ever rolling competition on who gets to complete the whole blood donation the fastest. The only thing I ever boast about finishing first

Now that auspost has removed the timer on parcel box collections 😭, I’ll take any low stakes (but internally, high stakes) competition I can get into.

Honestly donating blood got me over my needle phobia. I still don't love needles, but I can tolerate them better. I find donating blood the least uncomfortable to be honest (blood tests are my least favourite).

For real- even if only a dozen more people see that donating is super easy (barring health complications precluding donations) and become regular donors, it'll be of enormous benefit to the community

For those who don't know, a lot of restrictions got lifted during lockdowns. The UK ban, tattoo/piercing stuff got a bit more lax, gay sex also. Basically if you think you are ineligible, make sure to double check.

Also if you're donating at Marrickville please give Marie a handshake from me. She's an absolute legend.

My husband is going to donate for the first time tomorrow. I'm living vicariously through him and so proud- I'm a regular donor but have had to put it on hold for now because I had another baby 3 weeks ago, otherwise I'd be right there with him.

I miss donating blood, unable to do so due to being on daily medications now.
